Blizzard COO one of the Pittsburgh Steelers' new owners
Sure, he could buy his own private island or snag a ticket for the first Virgin Galactic flight to space, but Blizzard COO Paul Sams would much rather just buy a chunk of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers' official website names Sams and his family as one of 10 new joint owners of Pittsburgh's football team.
We've already seen some of the fruits of Blizzard's labor in the company's fawncy new campus, but buying a share of a major football team wasn't exactly what we expected. Though with upcoming World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm not too far in the distance and a subscriber base of over 11 million strong, we suggest owners of other football teams watch their backs. You could be next!

So, armor wearing football players?
Hmm, add cataclysmic warfare and I might watch.
Shadsy @ Sep 26th 2009 11:05PM
He's just joining the team so he can ninja loot the Lombardi Trophy.
ifalldownstairs @ Sep 26th 2009 11:09PM
Hmmm, I assumed it was master loot and Roger Goodell was the raid leader.
Donald @ Sep 26th 2009 11:08PM
As a Steelers fan knowing there's a year coming up with no salary cap, I appreciate that we have an owner with enough money than most countries.
Jerry @ Sep 26th 2009 11:15PM
LOL it's like Blizzard's taunting everyone with how much money they have.
Solace @ Sep 26th 2009 11:11PM
money. he has it.
Metal Beard Solid @ Sep 26th 2009 11:13PM
Steelers ftw
MystileArmor @ Sep 26th 2009 11:20PM
I'm gonna call it right now, the Bengals will take it tomorrow. I'm neither a Bengals fan nor a Steelers fan, but the Steelers aren't the same team they were last year.
DBuck_Eye @ Sep 27th 2009 12:55AM
They're not the same team as they were with Polamalu, but there is no way they are going to lose to the Bungals. Carson Palmer is so overrated.
MystileArmor @ Sep 27th 2009 1:31AM
Agreed, Palmer is overrated, but the team isn't just the QB. The Steelers lost to the Bears, for crying out loud. Also, when they played the Titans, the Titans almost took that (they would've won, if not for the missed 2 FG's). That was WITH Polamalu.
Either way, I can argue my point as much as I want, but we'll see what happens Sunday.
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Sep 27th 2009 1:57AM
MystileArmor, I don't know why, but it seems that you're a Giants fan. I might be wrong though. I'm Cowboys fan. That game last week with the Giants and Cowboys was so sad for me. I lost $500 on the Cowboys. Dammit Romo with his 3 interceptions.
DBuck_Eye @ Sep 27th 2009 8:38AM
First off, the Bears have a solid defense and Cutler is good when he wants to be. I actually thought there was good chance they would lose that game, simply because everyone thought they would win. Secondly, Troy only played for the first half, when he was all over the field, and the Steelers looked like a different team once he left. Thirdly, a team losing because it missed 2 field goals didn't just happen in the Steelers' first game.
MystileArmor @ Sep 27th 2009 10:20AM
I'm not really a fan of any particular team, although I like what the Giants are capable of.
I haven't lived long enough in this country to favor one team over another, and to just blindly be a fan of a team, just cause I live in a city that has one, doesn't make sense to me.
I'm actually in the middle of setting up a sports handicapping business, and so far we're actually very succesfull. I go through statistics daily and analyze games and more often then not, I'm right on the money.
MystileArmor @ Sep 27th 2009 7:54PM
Doubt anyone will look at this, since the topic is allready old, but just in case..
Hate to say I told you so...
DBuck_Eye @ Sep 27th 2009 9:47PM
You win this round, but I won't be worried until we lose to Baltimore or we lose to Cincy at home.
Mike @ Sep 27th 2009 10:41PM
Whodey!
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 26th 2009 11:23PM
So, if I buy Paul Sams, then I own part of the Steelers...
*pulls out wallet*
No Kill Tayler @ Sep 26th 2009 11:32PM
Hm, A Steelers game by itself? lol
Annie McCardell @ Sep 26th 2009 11:41PM
My friends grand parents own the steelers :)
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 26th 2009 11:53PM
Not anymore.
WRYYYYYY @ Sep 27th 2009 12:19AM
Is it just me, or does he look a little bit like Ben Roethlisberger?
Charades @ Sep 27th 2009 12:42AM
My two favorite things are now in some form related to eachother.
Mr Khan @ Sep 27th 2009 12:43AM
Steelers huzzah!
Good to see the hometown team on top again, despite the fact that i really won't be watching them, and good to know that they're backed up by the head of the #3 group in the industry (if we go by persistent quality)
Svenhoek86 @ Sep 27th 2009 12:47AM
As a Steelers fan and a Blizzard fan, I am pleased by this.
Exar @ Sep 27th 2009 1:01AM
LOL so is the new steelers Uniform going to be World of Warcraft
style uniforms? Id like to see that!
ChanceC (XBL: NoPantsChance) @ Sep 27th 2009 2:09AM
The Bears were only a setback...
Arkhetype @ Sep 27th 2009 1:44PM
The steelers are trash just like many of their fans. Drew Brees could pick apart their defense like a knife through hot butter. Too bad steelers fans but you will not win a championship this year. Too many teams that will destroy you. N.O. could murder your defense with troy playing. the steelers suck.
Colinohyeah17 @ Sep 27th 2009 6:45PM
New Orleans fan eh? Not biased in the least bit...
Maulok @ Sep 27th 2009 7:43PM
New Orleans would probably go to jail for that. Murder gets you sent to jail in PA, and although I can't confirm, I'm pretty sure it's the same down south too. With all of the Saints in jail for murder, the Steelers would win by default, even with a third stringers in on defense (y'know what with the starters being dead and all).
Football is serious business and should be taken seriously by everyone and not just d-bags.
Arkhetype @ Sep 27th 2009 7:52PM
Yeah Iam a bit biased, but most steelers fans are d-bags.
No murdering the defense in the aspect of passing, hand-offs, and winning games. Not in actual murder. Someone needs taught the use of word play.
Go Saints.
bongoes the Black Lantern @ Sep 27th 2009 4:31PM
Someone from Blizzard please buy the Raiders. I'd really like it if Al Davis wasn't in charge anymore.
Sincerely, A Raiders fan.
Mike @ Sep 27th 2009 10:34PM
I think this means I have to delete everything Blizzard related from my computer. Thanks a lot, jerk!
