Florida fugitive apprehended after attempting to steal DS games

A loss prevention specialist in a Florida Wal-Mart bagged themselves quite the trophy shoplifter this past week -- a fugitive named Daniel Larson, who was wanted for violating probation after a 2006 armed robbery charge. After being arrested and charged with larceny earlier in the month, he was released after presenting authorities with a fake I.D., and was placed on top of the Cape Coral, FL "Most Wanted" list.

His illicitly acquired freedom came to a sudden halt following his attempt to shoplift $120 worth of Nintendo DS titles from a local Wal-Mart. A loss prevention officer noticed the odd, rectangular shapes jutting out of his pants, and subdued him until authorities arrived. During police questioning, Larson claimed he was stealing the games to support his heroin addiction.

Then again, we wonder if that's really the true story. "Please, man," Larson might have said to the arresting officer, "don't tell them about my insatiable addiction for Imagine: Babyz games. I know! You could say I planned on pawning them to buy heroin! Please, come on, man. This would absolutely ruin me."

$120.. That's like almost 4 games worth.. This guy's big time.

For those of you who don't shop there often or ever - and I don't blame you - Walmart keeps most of its console game selection encased, so you aren't going to pocket anything in there without one of two things: a) employee assistance, or b) a willingness to shatter glass. However, they often do keep a wide selection of value games ($20 or less) on shelves and out of glass, so the guy could have in theory pocketed 12 copies of Build-a-Bear Workshop worth $10 a pop.

Er.. this is kinda sad. I live in Florida and decided to check out the Florida tag, and the majority of it is crime related. Also, WTF at the one about the police playing Wii Sports while doing an investigation...

LOL, that was in my home city, in the middle of Polk county. The weird thing is that it was a drug dealers motion activated camera set up in his home entrance way that caught it...how it leaked, I don't know. But I really think the simple act of having a motion activated camera should immediately make you guilty of whatever crime you are being raided for.

I live in FL (but not from there) and I am disappointed at our criminals. In NY, we had well planned bank robberies- here, we have this.

Oh, and there was a story a while back of someone killing someone else where I live over a PSP!!!! WTF?

In my area, the different color Walmarts have different "personalities." Green and tan Walmarts for the win.

here, green walmarts mean neighborhood walmarts (just groceries, some have pharmacies too) and blue walmarts are the normal supercenters.

wow, this was a mature article.

I caught some fool trying to steal The World Ends with You for the DS once. He came in with a bunch of other kids, and then they left him there claiming they had no idea who he was after we caught him.

Oh, and one other thing, since when do you find a Wal-Mart that cares about their shrink? The LP at the Wal-Marts here couldn't care less.

Thing is, if he stole that copy, the developers are still getting paid. If he downloaded it on the other hand...
And he has damn good taste. You always expect thieves to be as knowledgeable and classy as Soulja Boy (look up his Braid review).
