Seeing as how I have a crapped out PSP 1000, I might as well get the Go.
I could go the PSP 3000 route and get a 16 gig mem card but it all adds to be around 250$ anyway.

Yeah but since you already had a PSP you probably already have some UMD games. If you got a PSP-3000 you could keep playing those. If you get a PSPgo your old games aren't good for anything but selling/trading. Then you'll have to repurchase any that you still want, that is IF they're on PSN yet.

I have 4 titles, replayed them to death. I'm not the type of guy to look back 4 years from now and say, "Wow, I want to play 'So-and-so' game."
Plus, i'm tired of carrying them around. I understand your argument. The Go is just so appealing.

Look at it from the point of view of someone who doesn't own an iPod touch, is what i'm saying.

Get the slim and the memory card. The homebrew community more than compensates for whatever Sony is pushing with the Go.

If you're tired of carrying games around, hack the thing, get a UMD loading program, and throw your .iso files onto your card. They don't usually take more than a gig of room.

The Go is just a crippled hacked PSP.

You are the perfect candidate for a PSP GO. If I hadn't upgraded to a 3000 within the last year I would have also just upgraded to a GO from my 1000 model. Don't listen to the guy thats telling you to pirate games. Thats awful. I love the GO because it's so much smaller and more portable and you don't have to carry any games around with you. More than anything the portability has sold me on the system.

The only way I would by this is if the titles available are cheaper than the physical counterparts.

Ha, like that will ever happen....

I think it was mentioned that there would be pricing parity in North America. However, I also vaguely remember reading that in Japan games will be about 15% lower in digital form.

A majority of those movies and tv shows are already on the PSN. It's easier for Sony to put up lots of media because anything that Sony Pictures is handling the home distribution for they can throw on there no problem but with third party games they have to strike up new profit sharing deals with the publishers. That's why they've announced that all first party games will be UMD and PSN but they can't make that same promise with third party.

Right now there are 144 games available for download on PSP: 16 PSN exclusives, 67 PSP games, and 61 PSone Classics. There are supposed to be 15 Minis available Oct 1 so that leaves 66 other games they'll be adding before Thursday.

And I'd still rather pay more for a PSPgo than a Wii when given the choice.

I might buy a game or two as long as their retail versions are ridiculously expensive. For example, I'd buy MGS Portable Ops without hesitation if they re-launch it.

Hmm I guess those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it? I think the PSP Go is the next Gameboy Micro and we all remember how well that went over. Can't Sony learn from Nintendo's mistake? Besides a different style and no UMD why would anyone want this? With the previous PSPs you have a choice get the UMD OR download the game but Sony thinks they can sell less for more? and what about all the early games that are ONLY on UMD? If you buy the PSP Go too bad so sad....... PSP no Go! Of course this only my opinion and other opinions will vary.

Whoa! 225 Games on Thursday?

Not good, considering there is already 147 games on PSN already right now: and

PSN Exclusives: 16
Full UMD Games: 70
PSone Games: 61

And let's face it: the overwhelming majority of these are NOT Scottish.

Tack on a bunch of new "Minis" and it looks like there are going to be quite a few holes in the PSPgo library.

Where is the 3rd party publisher support for their existing catalog on PSN? Where are EA? Capcom? Activision? Square Enix? Namco Bandai?

I'm sticking with my 2000 series for now. Spending $250 on something that will obsolete my 30 or so games instantly is impossible for me to justify.

I personally Think that the psp go is pretty cool but i don't like the fact that they are leaving us in the dark as to what is to come out for it. I mean I'm totally down with digital distribution and I'm happy that it has bluetooth built in the system. I was going to buy a new mp3 player but screw that for the price of an ipod i can play videogames too screw apple. But that's for another time another story. I think that the psp go will replace most everything. i like the fact that it's smaller and easier to carry and stuff. I hope the screen doesn't scratch bad like the old one's did. I will have to buy some case and screen protectors. I mean most of the stuff on ps3 is digital distribution and it's pretty sweet. I think the price is sorta high for this but they need to tell me that DISSIDIA is going to be on the psp go the first day so that i can buy it...Again...yeah well..it sucks they are shafting us by not doing any trade in thing for the stacks and stacks of games i own for mine but i guess that's what i get for not waiting...this is my 8th psp...(the one's with umd's) so i guess this should replace everything for me which is going ot be sweet next they need to add a phone in there and then i don't have to carry around one of those anymore either.

The more I see it, the more I like it, but the price and the lack of the second analog nub keep me away. I really like my launch PSP; it truly is a great PMP. However, I have yet to find a PSP shooter that I've really taken to. Running that new Gran Turismo on the new model would be fun though.

If Sony had given up on UMD earlier and had loaded their games on memory sticks instead, the physical media argument wouldn't be that big of a deal. That's what I had hoped for in the beginning, but it was apparent it would never happen. Explains why I don't use my PSP much anymore, even though I like it. Well, maybe Sony's digital transition will go over better than it sounds.

I too had thought Sony would ditch UMD and just go with MS duo. But then I thought, how would that be any better when you'd have dozens of memory sticks lying around? Plus, the UMD limits the amount of data a company can use, otherwise there would be a range of game prices depending on the amount of spaced used. i.e. 2 GB MGS vs. 32 MB Space Invaders (not actually, but you get the idea.) The difference in price between memory sticks is a problem, but on top of that you'd have to pay for the actual game itself. I say just Go digital!

Yes, there would be problems with the memory stick pricing. My answer to that would be to partition the sticks, maybe, and offer universal sizes with single titles each or bundle together smaller, arcade-like games together. But of course, we both know how that would work out.

Digital is the future indeed. Just wish a few things had worked out differently for the PSP.

@johnnynumber5 The problem with pricing parity is that what Sony means is that they will be selling the games at MSRP, unlike in many stores or online where you can find games for less than MSRP. That's why they will end up being more expensive. In the same article it also mentions that while other countries may have titles for less than MSRP since they are digital only, SCEA has no plans for that.
Please re-read the article: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/sony-to-maintain-pricing-parity-for-downloadable-psp-games/

At the very least you would think that Sony would try to get all PSP users to move to getting all their games online, but right now there is no benefit other than not having a physical game to use, which some people find to be a loss rather than a gain.

If they're making download vouchers the way they did for Patapon 2, with excess uneccessary plastic, it defeats the purpose of going digital to save our planet. The only reason I want to try download only is so that I can stop buying the plastic. I can do that without the Go! But if they're producing plastic things for these so called 'download only' titles then I'm not going to support it, its the same amount of plastic junk as they were producing with UMDs, except the UMD was a hard copy at least, the empty plastic case is just that; empty.

as of right now
there is currently

PSN EXCLUSIVES (PSP) 16
PSP LEGACY: 63
for a total of 79 psp games on the psn store

if you include ps1 classics (55)
that's a total of 134 games currently available as of today. so that's a decent increase although not the promised ENTIRE LIBRARY OF PSP i was expecting at launch.

i will only buy this if they expand the #1 of ps1 titles availble to non crap games

jet moto? really? wtf @ half the ps1 currently available. where are all the square games? where are the underated gems like silent bomber?

The reason they scrapped the conversion program is probably due to exploits that would allow for rampant piracy. Imagine if someone found a hole in the program that would allow anyone to play converted games if they bought them or not without any significant help. Sony would lose even more money. For me personally, this is my only my second PSP (sold my first one), and I am only really buying it to play tetris, mh:unite, peace walker, a couple ff games, and maybe one or two others. What a shame, it looks like every PSP game I want to buy will fit into my pocket. I can put my movies and music (if I ever wanted to), on the external memory.
