TGS 2009: The worst logo of the show

In fact, it was only because of the Japanese title underneath this logo, for an Akella-developed MMO published in Japan by Acquire, that we could parse this unfortunate image at all. Good luck!

I can't read the english, the Japanese says Furagorila フラゴリア
chilano @ Sep 27th 2009 11:38AM
Looks like the English name reads "Fragoria" to me.
eldee @ Sep 27th 2009 1:17PM
how exactly does the japanese read 'gorila' when none of the japanese sylabaries contain an "L"? that's just a plain ol' "A"
Vegnagun bwf @ Sep 27th 2009 1:46PM
Gregory:
It reads Furagoria.
Ulotirch @ Sep 27th 2009 2:32PM
since there is no "L" in Hiragana or Katakana (or Japanese language for htat matter)... Good job on deciphering it!
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Sep 27th 2009 3:47PM
Ulotirch, actually you are slightly wrong. what the Japanese do is combine the L and R sounds into one letter. Most of the time when a Japanese word containing this L/R sound is romanized (translated into English), it is written as an R. However, it is also considered both acceptable and correct to write such letters as Ls. One good example of this is the Japanese name れな, which you see translated both as "Rena" and "Lena" fairly often.
MrKlorox @ Sep 27th 2009 4:57PM
"Cause that little muthafuckin cheetah can't hang with furagorila"
"Cap peelers. Furagorilas in the mist"
Gregory @ Sep 27th 2009 7:59PM
I realize there is no L in the Japanese phonetic alphabet. It was a typo. I corrected myself a few comments down.
cylet @ Sep 28th 2009 11:54AM
dammit where were you guys for the Peace Walker demo?!?!
manarchy @ Sep 27th 2009 11:36AM
Fragoria?
Skor @ Sep 27th 2009 11:21PM
Yep, I'd say FRAGORIA also.
embassy @ Sep 28th 2009 1:44AM
I thought it was Frag o III.
Thinking this was somehow the 3rd entry in a series or something.
Holy Shit.
Joshua @ Sep 27th 2009 11:37AM
Fragoria?
Tragoria?
Trigeria?
Wtf
IonAion @ Sep 27th 2009 11:39AM
At first i thought it was TRICO III. Then i read the japanese and realized there were a's. Fragoria.
jonbo298 @ Sep 27th 2009 11:46AM
Thank you Joystiq, for melting my brain trying to figure out what the hell that is.
Gregory @ Sep 27th 2009 11:49AM
Sorry, the Japanese says Furagoria フラゴリア
danny @ Sep 27th 2009 11:50AM
According to Google, Fragoria is a browser-based MMO RPG. So a pretty safe bet that it's Fragoria. There's some info here:
http://feature.mmosite.com/content/2008-07-29/20080729013758143,1.shtml
Note that this page has an even WORSE logo for the game.
Lionbacker @ Sep 27th 2009 12:07PM
holy shit, you weren't kidding! haha
kojo87 @ Sep 27th 2009 12:12PM
"Combat with Other Heroes"
now thats descriptive for an MMORPG
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Sep 27th 2009 12:24PM
They really did improve the logo for TGS. Those Japanese and their constant quality improvement.
groovy guy @ Sep 27th 2009 12:36PM
That "worse" logo actually says Fragoria in cyrillic Russian.
I'm new to russian and it's actually EASIER to read for me than the english one!
Hyperfludd @ Sep 27th 2009 1:55PM
Review of the game according to that site:
"HOW DO U REGISTER THE GAME! THE STUPID VIDEO SUCKS AND IT IS BOORINGGG"
Oh yeah, it's a keeper.
jeneni @ Sep 27th 2009 11:53AM
That's awful. On a completely unrelated note if anyone's looking for a logo artist my 9 year old sister is available. I think she has MS paint.
Kinsey @ Sep 27th 2009 12:01PM
Even amateur artists know not put a yellow background behind yellow writing.
devilsei @ Sep 27th 2009 1:57PM
Obviously your lack of artistic talents is shown by such a statement. It isn't just yellow on yellow. No!
The writing is in a bright, golden yellow, while the background is a mixture of "Baby poo orange" and "drunken yellow".
It's edgy and eye-catching!
/sarcasm
Vaitork @ Sep 27th 2009 12:03PM
I think the logo designer should probably get some credit. If it wasn't for his horrible logo, almost no one would ever know what Fragoria is. There isn't such a thing as bad advertising after all.
Bowser Rogozhin: England is finished @ Sep 27th 2009 12:07PM
That's some mighty fine Wordperfect clipart there.
Bunnyears @ Sep 27th 2009 12:18PM
Looks like some logo designer wants to be in a metal band.
MrKlorox @ Sep 27th 2009 5:05PM
It most certainly doesn't. NO serious metal band would use that font.
qbert18 @ Sep 27th 2009 6:29PM
i bet dragonforce would
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Sep 27th 2009 12:20PM
Is this some kind of sick joke?
JeezWhiz87 @ Sep 27th 2009 12:21PM
I think that font is called "Power Metal Cyrillic".
MystileArmor @ Sep 27th 2009 12:23PM
If they can't get the logo right, imagine what the game will look like... and it's flash-based as well.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Sep 27th 2009 12:27PM
Oh crap...
MystileArmor @ Sep 27th 2009 12:43PM
Oh crap is right.
SEVENim @ Sep 27th 2009 1:23PM
the graphics are very reminiscent of Age of Empires
Misfit Toy @ Sep 27th 2009 12:44PM
Little Hiro-san is holding his large box of cookies because it was instructed to only give cookies to those that correctly deciphered the title. Sadly he has only handed out three cookies. Poor Hiro-san.
Meh @ Sep 27th 2009 1:40PM
WIN
Quattro @ Sep 27th 2009 1:10PM
Geeze you aren't kidding. I was trying to make it out at first until I saw the katakana below.
ipwndbowser @ Sep 27th 2009 1:20PM
And I thought my 1st grade Japanese reading skills would never prove useful, thanks Rosetta Stone!! But seriously, that looks more like a black metal band then a game...
MrKlorox @ Sep 27th 2009 5:04PM
BLACK metal? No no no.... as some dude mentioned earlier, it's much more POWER metal looking than anything.
Besides it is much more readable than most extreme metal logos and isn't a bunch of jagged intersecting white lines that looks like a Rorschach test from a distance.
Joel Horst @ Sep 27th 2009 1:25PM
Holy cow, after all these years! Ultima Online gets better graphics!!
MRLN @ Sep 27th 2009 1:34PM
At least the Japanese is readable, but the English is just ugly, never mind indecipherable.
MrKlorox @ Sep 27th 2009 5:01PM
So many JPRGS use a Serif font and it's just so damned hard for my eyes to read. That's one main reason I haven't played through one this generation.
When will they learn the display Romanized text is best when using a plain old sans-serif font?

IGLAW @ Sep 27th 2009 3:38PM
I could read it without the Katakana but it wasn't easy.
MrKlorox @ Sep 27th 2009 5:07PM
Nobody's mentioned the wilted, almost rasta-colored pot-leaf behind the logo.
ChuckBartowski @ Sep 27th 2009 5:08PM
