As advertised: Dead to Rights targets 17-and-ups
Namco Bandai has tapped in-game ad agency Double Fusion to inject alluring elements into the game world of its upcoming release Dead to Rights: Retribution. It's apparently Namco Bandai's first in-game advertising deal, so we'd like to take a moment to congratulate the publisher on joining us here in 2006 ...
... Nothing's gonna make Grant City come alive more than billboards for $5 footlongs and "Are you gellin'?" We repeat: Nothing.
[Dramatic pause.]

Heavytoka @ Sep 28th 2009 2:41PM
I will laugh as I kill zombies and look up to see an Extenze billboard
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:55PM

Heavytoka @ Sep 28th 2009 3:23PM
Yeah my brain is hazed, I though I read Dead Rising lol Fail
Taylor @ Sep 28th 2009 3:29PM
Don't worry. I did that too at first. I kept looking at the picture thinking they were showing us a new location.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Sep 28th 2009 2:41PM
so out of the 10 or 11 characters in this screen shot, there's brown jacket triplets, white/blue shirt with white hair twins, hooded jumpsuit twins, two guys with red tank tops but different colored hair, and only one dude that seems to look original. seems high quality already |:(
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:43PM
Wait, you mean it's not Streets of Rage 4? Fucking hell.
Courtney @ Sep 28th 2009 2:46PM
You missed one, there's a second red tank top/white hair guy right behind the taxi (barely visible), chasing first red tank top/white hair guy.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:48PM
Oh, there's one more thing.
I am the master!

Hope they have uber-original names, like "Buzzsaw" and "Roy".
JUNG GUNS @ Sep 28th 2009 5:25PM
Ummmm hello???? Where's shadow?
Colin McGinn @ Sep 28th 2009 8:09PM
Already seems like more bad-guy options than Batman ... and Batman controls my life! This one might suck but Baddie versatility has nothing to do with it.
[ArchiGamer] [Live from Omicron Persei 8] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:42PM
At least it makes it feel real.....right?
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:46PM
As much as I'd like to believe it as well, nothing is going to help this game feel, or look real. I challenge you to look at the screenshots and not laugh.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:45PM
I would just like to also say that, I love how these letters from Double Fusion always read out. With statements like " ....it's a nod to the industry that the opportunities are great for all parties -- publishers, developers, advertisers and gamers alike", they obviously have no clue that in-game advertisements only steal away from the immersion of the world you're playing in. It's very annoying when, every 30ft. you're seeing signs for Subway and McDonald's in, what's supposed to be, a fictional environment.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:56PM
i dont know, sometimes i kind of enjoy the advertising. In a game like this where it's supposed to be an everyday American city, it makes sense to be bombarded with advertising, that's what cities are like. I just wish game prices would go down to reflect the advertising in them, and as long as it isnt immersion breaking, like having a Gillette add in Halo.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington, Soon-To-Be-PSN: OrIsItAltonBrown] @ Sep 28th 2009 2:58PM
I think GTAIV had the best solution; advertisements for fictional products.

I suppose it has to fit the motif of the game for the advertising to keep from breaking up the immersion. RS: Vegas did this well, by blending in an Axe billboard here or there without breaking up the scenery too much. Considering it's supposed to be set in today's world, the advertising fits.
TheCoats @ Sep 28th 2009 2:46PM
Aww man - I completely thought I was reading an article about Dead Rising......I HAVE BEEN DUPED!
JoeStillLife @ Sep 28th 2009 2:55PM
kind of a waste of an article...slow day?
linebeginstoblur @ Sep 28th 2009 3:04PM
Double Fusion? Seriously? We didn't learn our lesson since WipEout HD?
Sam @ Sep 28th 2009 3:12PM
I think ingame ads work, they just have to become more clever, slip into the environment. poke fun, fps? use relating words like "ammo, reload, headshot, etc" reference the characters, the city, ANYTHING relating to the game. also I think the problem is most of the games adopting in game ads are mildly popular so they don't get noticed by the advertiser. I think if halo/COD ever adopted ads (big 4th wall breaker) advertisers would go crazy with game references and witty ads.
NumbN8 @ Sep 28th 2009 3:17PM
Why is every one s****ing on this game? The first dead to rights was a great game. (I can't say anything about the 2nd, I was a PC gamer then and it didn't come out until a ridiculous amount of time after the console, and only as direct2drive). It was a lot of similarities with max Payne. I was hyped when I heard about a 3rd dead to rights, and a 3rd max Payne. After hearing and seeing screen shots of each,,,, I'm only hyped about dead to rights.
Brandon_Hayden87 @ Sep 28th 2009 3:32PM
hehehe, fairly interesitng
Spencer @ Sep 28th 2009 3:46PM
Dude Dead Riseing is so stupid there is no point to the game and games like Redent Evil and Silent Hill are much better. Putting ads in the game is a lame attempt to collect money from what they spent on makeing the first game because of poor sale numbers.
Spencer @ Sep 28th 2009 3:51PM

Why does everyone hate on real ads? They don't ruin the game do they? If you are supposed to be in New York, the street would be littered with ads and sometimes it makes the city feel LESS life-like when there are no ads to be found.
All I'm saying is, if there are ads at the Mushroom Kingdom for a Whopper, I'll be pissed. But if I'm in Liberty City and I see the Good Year blimp flying around, I'm gellin.
Spencer @ Sep 28th 2009 3:59PM
They ruin the whole purpose of playing the game. For me playing a game is to do something I can not do in a virtual setting. To have ads popping up while I'm playing the game reminds me that I this game was made just to make sales and not for the gamer's enjoyment.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 28th 2009 4:35PM

wat
Enosoma @ Sep 28th 2009 4:40PM
This means I pay less for the game, right?
Spencer @ Sep 28th 2009 5:01PM
What I meant was that I go to games I can't do in real life like killing zombies, fighting against the convent, and saving the princess.
JUNG GUNS @ Sep 28th 2009 5:33PM
we all know what you meant Spencer, the Dark Wayne is simply a troll who calls other people trolls.
fred @ Sep 28th 2009 7:03PM
Dark Wayne is awesome, JUNG is just butthurt.
bry2an @ Sep 28th 2009 5:16PM
Nice screen grab but man nothing but twins and triplets in that shot. This must be early.
Diskoboy7 @ Sep 28th 2009 11:19PM
TAKING ALL BETS!!!
How long before the new Dead To Rights ends up littering bargain bins?
1 weeks has got the best odds, thus far.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Sep 29th 2009 12:15AM
Wow, just when this game couldn't get any worse...BAM!
Althugh I'm not completely against the idea, realisticly it could work in an urban setting like this. Wipeout was a joke because of where it takes place but I thought the ads in Burnout Paradise added to it a little.
