Direct2Drive has elected to show some love to the little guy this week. The digital distribution site continues its impossibly thrifty anniversary sale by offering a number of popular indie titles for just $5. If you've yet to dip your toes into the refreshing waters of World of Goo, The Path or Gish, Direct2Drive has the best deals on them (and a number of other indie games) that you're likely to see for a long, long time.
However, if you're craving a more mainstream offering, a bunch of discounted games from previous weeks -- including BioShock, Saints Row 2 and EVE Online -- have retained the $5-discount price. You could just as easily pick those up instead, you conformist, you.

World of Goo and Cogs are both fantastic, especially for $5

Mount & Blade for 5 currency units is also totally worth doing. It's just kinda a shame that I already own all the games I'm interested in with this week's sale.

Also five bucks -- Defense Grid: The Awakening.
Probably the best take on the DOTA theme that doesn't feature plants or zombies, and that's 75% off the Steam price and 50% of the XBOX Live pointsamajigs.

Too bad Direct2Drive is totally shitty when it comes to Customer Service, oh and making sure the archives they give you aren't corrupt.
Combine those two and you get NO DEAL.
I suggest Steam or Impulse.

Right, neither of which is having a $5 game sale however. I tend to avoid D2D like the plague myself, but this sale is too good to pass up. If you want to head to steam and pay $30 for Saints Row 2, or $20 for World of Goo when you could be paying $5 for them, more power to you, I am sure both Valve and the game's publisher appreciate your monies. Me? I'll be spending $40 less than you over at Direct2Drive's fire sale. For the record I have purchased a number of games in the sale, and none of them have had corrupted archives.

Does anyone else keep getting a "Transaction Failed" or "Server Unavailable" error when trying to check out? It's been happening to me every time I try for the past 18 hours. I've tried different browsers, payment methods, computers - everything to no avail. It's starting to drive me nuts. I put in a trouble ticket with them, but haven't heard back yet. I don't want to miss all of these deals.
