Microsoft says Halo 3: ODST disc read errors aren't 'widespread'
Bungie quickly responded to a 60-page-long thread on the Halo 3: ODST forums where users complained the title had experienced disc read errors while playing in the game's Campaign and Firefight modes. Now, Microsoft has also sounded off on the errors, telling Eurogamer, "we are aware of a very small number of people who are reporting they can't play the game," and later adding "at this point it doesn't appear to be a widespread issue."
In our last post regarding the game-crashing errors, we asked readers if they had encountered similar problems during their time with ODST. Out of the 5,608 participants who responded at the time this article was written, 1,769 (or 31.5 percent) had reported technical issues with the game. We're sure Microsoft has their own method of tracking this data, but our polling figures certainly make the problems seem as though they've spread fairly wide.

Has anyone else noticed Notification lag when playing ODST or the Halo 3 disk?
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 28th 2009 7:33PM
Not really. Especially not the Halo 3 disc, that's pretty much the original Halo 3 disc sans singleplayer.
Look At This Suit @ Sep 28th 2009 7:36PM
I've noticed it with the ODST disk, yes, but not as much with the H3: Mythic disk. I never even GOT a notification when I got the "Deja Vu" achievement.
BIacked Out @ Sep 28th 2009 7:52PM
Yeah stuff pops up about 3 minutes after it happens for me. Small price to pay.
Ballistic H @ Sep 28th 2009 8:13PM
I'm a PS3 fan but I also have a 360. Never had a problem with my copy of ODST. The only 2 complaints I would have would be the long loading if you don't install the game on your HDD and the fact you can't carry Health Packs in 26th century. You have to backtrack 2 blocks in the middle of a fight to heal yourself...
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 28th 2009 8:15PM
yeah i waited half an hour before i got the notification for the achievement for beating campaign
343 Guilty Fart @ Sep 28th 2009 8:37PM
Yes, it was ok at first, but Firefight has become increasingly laggier. I hope they do something about it.
@DarkWayne - I noticed that my campaign finished achievement took a good 15 minutes to appear too
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 28th 2009 8:52PM
it's the worst with game invites, not only do I not get the notification, but my friend didnt get the invite till set 2 on Rally Point
El Capitaine @ Sep 28th 2009 10:27PM
Halo 3 with Mythic map achievements (before ODST, old disk) used to have a bit of a delay on the notifications with the Mythic achievements.
However...the Halo 3 Multiplayer Disk achievements seem to continue this trend, but I havent noticed any issues with other notifications. It also seems that the achievements for things like shotgun spree and sword spree take longer than the vidmaster and skulls...i dont know.
The ODST disk however...Game invites, achievements, friend online...all notifications seem to be laggy for me. Sometimes. I got 200,000 on Crater today and it was instant. Audiophile was pretty instant too. But all of the "Finished such-and-such Campaign level on Normal, Heroic or Legendary" and "Found a clue" are really delayed....on one I checked my achievements, saw I unlocked it, and got the notification 30 seconds later.
And again, friend online and game invites seem to also have laggy notifications
Extinction @ Sep 29th 2009 12:33AM
They said the same thing about RROD
yolarrydabomb @ Sep 29th 2009 3:16AM
I did have a lag on "ewww sticky" on the right corner. it kept showing up 1 then it finally Jump to 10 and give me achievement
other then that I installed it on Hard drive and loads quick and response much faster.
I like this game better then halo 3 but the ending suck!
aristokrat @ Sep 29th 2009 9:08AM
I've noticed both notification and gameplay lag. The gameplay lag is the worst when compared to Halo 3's matchmaking smoothness, as it's made the hardest part of the vidmaster achievements actually keeping 4 people connected the entire time. It looks like XBL is getting a little better with this since last week, but when I lag out with 15 mbps down/6 mbps up and a latency of 150 ms (as checked through my comp's utilities), and it causes the game to completely stop (instead of at least just reloading the game state for every one after connection is reestablished), it's pretty frustrating (and is a pretty common complaint on the achievement forums).
Other than that, I do love the game.
Hot Sweaty Cash @ Sep 29th 2009 9:25AM
@dark wayne, the friend invites actually show up right away. The notification just takes forever. So if you tell your friend you sent him an invite, he should check his messages, it will be there.
neversawthestars @ Sep 29th 2009 4:14PM
Yo Halo ODST, im happy for you and all, and Imma Let you Finish, but UNCHARTED 2 is THE BEST GAME OF ALL-TIME!!! OF ALL TIME!!!!
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 28th 2009 7:33PM
I have a 2006 Xbox 360- zero errors. I played through the entire campaign without a hitch, and firefight mode worked as well.
I personally haven't had any issues.... anyone else?
sephriothazule @ Sep 28th 2009 7:35PM
I had one minor issue when I had played Halo 3 multiplayer after ODST. When I went back to ODST it took about 15 min for the cache to reload my campaign.
I'm not sure if it is like this every time, but it seemed out of the ordinary.
Other than that, It works fine.
LegendaryRedass @ Sep 28th 2009 9:15PM
I had an issue, but it was probably just the stick of butter I put in the disk tray.
Wewtaco @ Sep 28th 2009 9:17PM
on the other end, I have a 2009 Resident Evil Red 360 elite and that's worked fine with absolutely no hitches - it must be the game, not the 360 they're playing it on.
abelpc @ Sep 28th 2009 9:56PM
No issues at all.. None of my friends have had issues either.
Bradwart @ Sep 28th 2009 11:31PM
2006 Xbox's were built well. Mine lasted two years before I got a red ring. Wish the rebuild was as reliable.
Cash @ Sep 29th 2009 3:07AM
Only issue I have is not being able to find the GD 28th audio log, despite scouring the city block by block 5 times now. Printed a cheat map with all the locations listed, and going to them all one by one now.
eNrique @ Sep 28th 2009 7:33PM
Well, that's pretty much what they said about rrod...
Cj @ Sep 28th 2009 7:34PM
Mine just crapped out today :(

AUS_JD @ Sep 28th 2009 10:27PM
Can't you guys read the sign? It says:
Don't feed the trolls.
M. Dizzy @ Sep 28th 2009 10:31PM
I'm a huge fan of the 360 but that was my knee-jerk reaction as well. RROD goes from "not widespread" to "we'll give you a 3 year extended warranty" to according to one study a 55% failure rate! So forgive my skepticism about the disc read error being "not widespread"
tafuub @ Sep 29th 2009 3:11AM
Well at least it isn't as bad as Microsofts RROD right?
yolarrydabomb @ Oct 1st 2009 3:33AM
Great time to get rrodless one with 0 hours of gameplay
Look At This Suit @ Sep 28th 2009 7:33PM
In other news, the RRoD is the result of loving your xbox too much.
God damn it, I like Microsoft and all, but they need to just shut the fuck up and deal with their broken shit. This is ridiculous.
copa @ Sep 28th 2009 7:35PM
Exactly, Microsoft exhausted that line of credit when they were blaming RROD on the owners in 2006.
In other news, Courtney Love announced she's off the drugs this time.
EGOvoruhk @ Sep 28th 2009 7:33PM
Joystiq should know better than to trust their own polls
iofthestorm @ Sep 28th 2009 9:42PM
Yeah, voluntary sampled polls are not very accurate, especially in situations like this. Especially internet polls where any moron can vote, even if he doesn't own an Xbox.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 7:34PM
No offense, but I'm not sure how trustworthy the poll was. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who hit yes just cause I hate halo :P
Douche move, yes...but in my defense I must have missed the part where this was actually going to be *used* otherwise I would have just ignored it.
speedmetaldemon @ Sep 28th 2009 7:48PM
I voted you up because I agree.. you are a douche.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 28th 2009 7:52PM
And a Bronco's fan.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 7:53PM
3-0 baby!
eNrique @ Sep 28th 2009 8:05PM
But also How many people voted "No" because they love halo and praise microsoft?
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 8:08PM
Probably not as many as you'd like to believe Enrique. This is a Sony fanboy haven after all.
Then again, I'm just as guilty so I can't really throw any stones here even though I'm not a fanboy, I just hate Halo.
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Sep 28th 2009 8:39PM
I think its more important to realize that not everyone who owns the game visits sites like these, especially those who are playing without any issues.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 28th 2009 10:19PM
Bronco-fan swears he isn't a fanboy yet every other post he is calling someone a Sony fanboy or saying Sony haven this Sony fanboy that. Serioulsly, none of us knew who he was 3 weeks ago yet he has everyone pegged like he is a regular. The truth probably is he is a fanboy himself whose either in denial or has an agenda. LOL funny thing is I'm a huge Bears fan ... Tell that noob coach McDaniel thanks for the franchise QB. 3-0 doesn't count when it's against the browns, raiders and bengals especially when one was on a last second fluke.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 10:30PM
This is tmac, so yes I know exactly who's a fanboy of what on here.
And enjoy all the interceptions, I sure as hell don't miss them.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 10:34PM
Also, you guys don't even realize how many veteran 'stiq posters you're pissing off by de-railing every other article with your Sony fanboyism. I will say it has gotten just a teeny bit better over the last week or so though, mostly because I haven't seen some of the normal trouble makers around.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 28th 2009 10:56PM
Your one to talk!
You did nothing but piss people off constantly with your hateful wii trolling. Now you speak for the community like you have your finger on the pulse of core gamers. Riiiight.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 11:01PM
Ha you need to know what's going on before throwing accusations out. A good portion of the veterans I've been chatting with are Nintendo fanboys, like fernando. Everyone I've talked to, be they ninty fanboy, (rational) sony fanboy, xbox fanboy, or just a regular person, are fed up with the people who are routinely ruining the comment sections of articles.
I wouldn't have thought about including you, but since the comment sections have started swaying to Sony you've let loose a bit and are becoming as bad as the rest. Don't worry though, we're coming up with ways to get this mess taken care of :)
Markez @ Sep 28th 2009 11:15PM
I certainly don't count Johnny amongst that bunch, not by a mile.
Bronco-fan @ Sep 28th 2009 11:23PM
I don't either...yet. I've been observing for a long time and he's getting a little worse as the overall tone of the comments are swaying to Sony. It's definitely a lot more subtle than, say, something that Enrique or Marius would normaly say.
But take it from someone who perfected the art of trolling in all forms, I know it when I see it.
Victoryismine @ Sep 28th 2009 11:24PM
@Tmac
"Don't worry though, we're coming up with ways to get this mess taken care of :)"

@Victoryismine:
Um, how exactly do you plan to be family with Tmac?
I can see brothers-in-arms, but not exactly family.
