Rumor: Alpha Protocol delayed, possibly until 2010

It appears Sega's Alpha Protocol is going to suffer a delay, the precise length of which remains in question. The last official word we heard from the publisher was that Alpha Protocol was to be released on October 6 (that's next week!), a release date that has seemed unlikely after numerous retailers shifted that date to late October. The latest release date change? Mega-retailer GameStop has shifted its expected launch date for the title to 6/1/2010, with Amazon Canada also showing a 2010 release (Amazon US has not made any change).

Developer Obsidian Entertainment is forwarding all requests for comment to Sega which, in traditional Sega fashion, have been met with the Sega Wall of Silence™. We'll update as soon as somebody decides to say something. Remember, the company line from Sega is that Alpha Protocol is supposed to hit store shelves next week.

Now I have nothing to play for the remainder of the year and 40 games to play next year...awesome.

Fallout 3 GOTY is coming out in a couple weeks and Dragon Age is coming out in November. That leaves me set for RPGs, though if Mass Effect 2 is released before AP I may end up forgetting about it entirely.

Wonder if this has anything to do with sega and sony's leaked meeting notes.

If the notes have any basis in reality it might, Because they were saying how it didnt feel like an RPG and that's what they've been claiming it was supposed to be for months... on top of that the graphics could really use some tuning up, It doesnt look AAA.

10/6? The release date on GameFly has been 10/29 for a long time.

Yeah, it's been 10/26 on Amazon for a while-October 6th got changed sometime.

My preorder with GameStop has been for 10/26 for a long time now. Sega said 10/6, but Alpha Protocol's website just said "October" and clicking on Preorder led you to GameStop's 10/26 date.

I had a bad feeling about this, with the weird discrepancy over release dates. But Alpha Protocol, I'd reeeallly like to play you this October. Don't you know 2010 is when Mass Effect comes out?

I would think this confirms the validity of the Sega's meeting notes with Sony. I really hope the game comes out on time this year. I've been wanting this for some time now.

idk about you but those games would last me longer than this year. some of them have pretty big online components. I mean L4D2 has a ton of replayability. I still play L4D. Borderlands could still be fun at 50 hours in if they deliver and what it looks like they will. MW2 has 70 levels vs the 55 in CoD4.

You mentioned Demon's Souls (a PS3 title) but not Uncharted 2?

They need to add more Mass Effect to it. Also: they probably don't want to release it at the same time as Mass Effect.

If ME2 goes with it's suspected March release, then putting this out in June would bring it 2 months closer than releasing it in Oct.

hey remember a few months ago when joystiq did a montage on "Which game do you think is the next to go 2010?" How many of those games are now delayed?

When there were no release trailers or early reviews available, I relegated this title to 2010 in my head - good to know the real world is catching up.

Oh well, it doesn't change the fact that October effing rocks this year.

I am still way more excited about this than Dragon Age...but man, I think delaying is a bad idea, especially with Mass Effect 2 on the horizon. I really think this is going to feel dated if it comes out afterwards...

Maybe they need time to create a marketing campaign.

Its too bad. I was really looking forward to this one.

Also FYI: Sega, your marketing team is doing an AMAZING job keeping customers updated on when they can purchase your product.

Unless it DOES ship next week, you FAIL.

Can't say im too sad about that. I'm really looking forward to it, but it's not even October and im already behind on 3 games, throwing a long detailed RPG in the mix would not bode well. Im actually glad it gets a summer release, so little games get released in summer ever, and the ones that do like RFG and Prototype arent exactly long lasting

Although it seems the ones that get delayed to summer always seem to get delayed again so they can hit that all-important fall release.

Should just get rid of it. If they keep that subtitle and this turns out to be crap that would be hilarious.

Isn't there a federal law against delaying games RIGHT when they're supposed to come out? This shouldn't be acceptable.

I wonder if we can cancel Steam orders. I really don't need to see this in my list of "non installables" until next year.

I'm not surprised, it looked pretty unfinished. Obsidian can make good games but they always seem to be rushed leading to sub-par results. If this makes it really good, I'm fine with that.

Sega has to know that this game not coming out before Mass Effect 2 will significantly lower their sales.

I'm just going to go ahead and say there's no chance it's not out in 2009.... ready or not

This is good. Hopefully they will use this time to polish the game.
