Capcom recently launched one of the most nebulous video game teaser sites in recent history, hinting at an update for Street Fighter IV. All said site displays is a short video clip of what we believe is the music video for A-ha's "Take On Me" spliced together with footage of some sort of fluorescent fluid swirling lazily down a toilet drain. Also, a date and time: "2009.09.29. 17:00 JST." Whoa. Capcom's on Joystiq Standard Time, too?
Fortunately, French site JV247 has received a few purported, light-shedding screenshots from an anonymous source at Capcom. If legit, these screens reveal the existence of the oft-rumored Super Street Fighter IV -- a retail game (or perhaps just a DLC expansion) that will add at least two Street Fighter regulars to the game: Juri and T. Hawk (seen above). These screens look like the real deal, but details from the source are scant.
Stay tuned -- an official announcement is expected within the next 24 hours.

Lets just hope Capcom doesn't be gay and put T. Hawk in some loin cloth and a feathered headband for his alternate costume. And where the blue hell is DEE JAY!!!....and who in the f**k is Juri? Anyways, new characters are always welcomed...but Dee Jay best be in the mix. You hear that Capcom....BETTER!!

Who here would find it hilarious if the content was DLC, unlocking all the new characters & stages from the disc???
I, on the other hand, would not find it funny.

I WAS believing all of the rumors of Super Street Fighter IV, what with the ten new characters and two ultras and whatnot...but, this new female character isn't buffed and beefy, so I'm sort of skeptical.

More Street Fighter IV please! DLC would be best, but I got my copy when it was on sale so I won't feel to bummed. Been wanting to make a fighting stick for some time, but may just buy one.

I really hope you're wrong. Historically, of course a new disc would be what Capcom does. But with the age of DLC upon us, I hope they give us the option this time. Capcom has been making some pretty forward-thinking moves lately, and I hope they don't take the 'here's a new disc, hope you didn't like playing with all those other dudes who don't have it' approach.
Give me four to six new characters in a $20 DLC pack, and bundle it with the original game in a re-released new retail box. Win-win.

Capcom has been doing this for decades, it's just how fighting games work (New BlazBlue should be announced soon). Capcom is calling it Super Street Fighter 4. The name of the game wouldn't change were it DLC. Capcom wants to make money and everyone who thinks that it'd be good if it were a disc, but also DLC that works with the SF4 disc and costed $20, keep dreaming. This is the company that made you pay for multiplayer in RE5 when RE5 isn't even made for multiplayer.
Not happening.

Out of curiosity does anyone know how much profit Capcom would see on say a $20 dollar piece of dlc (i.e. how much would Microsoft and Sony take from this) as opposed to how much they would make on a $60 retail release. I've never seen any concrete figures for this sort of stuff and would be intrigued to know if it is a viable option for these sort of iterative updates to fighting/sports games.
That's assuming of course that whatever they are aiming for could be achieved via dlc, again I do not know anything about that.

That's a good question. SF4 sold much more than they were expecting and they actually hit a new audience (i.e. everyone posting who feels ripped off and wants this to be DLC). It might have actually been a good strategy for them to not release a new game - and keep the engine the same - and to just release DLC. I doubt Super Street Fighter IV will sell as much as SF4, but this time they're likely just targeting the hardcore SF audience that has been around for decades and the newer people who actually bought fightsticks and learned the game instead of going on and playing Ken and Sagat. This way they can sell the game for full retail price and probably make more than if it were just DLC (even though DLC is low cost to make and you don't have to provide physical media).
Then again, that's just my baseless ranting.

The game will not be DLC and will have it's own dic, but it will be PRICED as an upgrade. I'm not sure what this means other than it won't cost a full $60.

Well, set sail for disappointment because that's what is most likely to happen. This isn't a new occurrence, I'm surprised people weren't expecting this."
... Ok, it's official. For now on using the word "surprise" the way veg use it is now a bad idea. That also goes along with, "I'm not surprised" the most overused phrase.

If they release this as a disc-only type thing, then I'd be disappointed as a fan who bought SFIV. Hence why I said the best approach would be to release the new content as DLC and then make the retail copy a disc + DLC release similiar to what Halo did a while back with a disc + maps release. Or what Fallout 3 did.

Yeah I'm really hyped about this but I also hope it's DLC. I can't see any real reason why Capcom would think re-releasing a game with a few more characters would warrant a whole new $60 purchase for those who already own the game.

Vegnagun: Yes, but that is arguably due to necessity because of the lack of any online network. Now that we have a flourishing online component on all major systems, to release a minimal update for a brand new retail price and expect your existing users to pick it up is archaic.
This isn't the era of PS1 (ie: The 90's). We all have either Xbox Live or PSN now. Releasing the extra people as a patch for free or a minimal charge, as well as releasing a new disc for those who NEVER bought the game, is the best solution for a modern world.
That whole "Double Impact", "Third Strike" stuff was cool when we were playing in arcades and we wanted to play the new version, but bringing that model home in the form of new retail discs is stupid and inconsiderate.

Good point, and I never meant to sound like I'm defending what Capcom is going to do, but it seems obvious. I don't like spending money and more than you do, but this is how SF has always worked. It's not going to be DLC, because of the rumored (and most likely true) new engine, and I just don't think Capcom would do that anyway considering the history of the franchise. This is just how fighting games have always been, and even with the ability to distribute DLC it likely wouldn't allow for yearly engine overhauls.
