Do you want to die a whole lot during your first interstellar excursion in Star Trek Online? If not, we'd advise you not to dress yourself in the lowly, crimson vestments of a Starfleet security officer -- or, as they've appropriately been nicknamed, "Redshirts." It's a well known fact that most hostile extraterrestrials are bull-like in their profound hatred for the hue. Strangely enough, these same adversaries are placated by the garments of a Starfleet Admiral, inspiring them to give long soliloquies instead of, you know, murdering people.
If the latter clothing choice sounds more in your wheelhouse, you'll be happy to know that a Starfleet Admiral outfit is being offered as a Star Trek Online bonus for purchasers of Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3 on Blu-ray, according to TVShowsOnDVD.com. Not only do you get sweet duds for your character when the game drops in early 2010, but the television episodes will allow you to brush up on other important pieces of Star Trek errata. For instance, you should never hug a Klingon -- or Vulcans, for that matter. In fact, just keep those deep space hugs to yourself, okay?

This game looks so sweet.
I can't decide on this or TOR. Damn the two universes for pulling me apart!

Actually, redshirts only existed in the first series. Since TNG, operations personnel and command personnel switched division colours. So goldshirts are mor elikley to die. And itall goes out the window with ds9 since by then the deaths can happen to pretty much any random person regardless of shirt colour....and then they even do away with shirt colour entirely.

I hope it's a code as I don't have a Blu-ray player on my PC yet.

I'll definitely be getting the blu-rays, but I'm not so sure about the game. It's fallen into the same trap as most Star Trek games, feeling really un-Star Trek like. I know it's supposed to be set in the future, but that just seems like a poor excuse..
Some of the ship designs look very strange and being able to give them decals just seems wrong. Call me old fashioned, but the Enterprise shouldn't have flames across the nacelles and Japanese lettering plastered across the hull.
I'll try and get into the beta, but I very much doubt I'd be willing to pay a monthly fee for this.

I hope to god this game is good. I am such a big trekkie and have been really lost without a good trek show ever since DS9 went off the air (Enterprise also wasn't as bad as everyone said though Voyager certainly was).
Please oh please make this game awesome.

The series looks really amazing on blu-ray, definitely a huge step up from the DVD's.

Also, Season 2 includes the Deep Space Nine Tribble episode in HD, which I hear is equally as stunning. As a huge DS9 fan, I'd almost buy it for that alone.

They're like $70 a season, it'll run you around $210 for the complete original series. The bonus features are nice but the S2 extra bonus was terrible (2 crappy cards for the Star Trek monopoly game). S1's bonus was a "free" Sulu action figure (+tons of S/H).
BTW, S1 Blu-Ray is basically identical to S1 HD-DVD (which was the reason I bought the 360 HD-DVD add on).
Pre-orders for S3 aren't up yet.

Are you sure the DS9 "Trials and Tribble-ations" episode is in HD? As I recall, the visual effects for ST:TNG and beyond were done on video, not film, so making HD releases of TNG through Voyager would actually be more difficult than what they're doing for TOS.
