Looks like the rumors and speculation were spot-on -- Gamespot just revealed the first details on Super Street Fighter IV, a new version of the brawler released earlier this year in the U.S., which will rebalance the game's existing characters and add eight new fighters to the roster. For now, the only confirmed fighters we know are series regulars T. Hawk and Dee Jay, and a brand new female pugilist named Juri.
Due to the minor scope of the changes, Capcom won't be charging full price for the title -- however, the character balancing is drastic enough to prevent cross-game matches between SFIV and its Super iteration. The game is due out in Spring 2010 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. For more details about the updated Hadoken simulator, check out Gamespot's initial impressions. To see the complete version of the A-ha-esque trailer which was teased earlier today, watch the video after the jump.

Good news for everyone that already has the game. All you have to do is buy a $50 code to unlock all the characters already on the disc.

These comments are so baffling. If you don't think SSF4 is worth it then here is a protip: you don't have to buy it. For the millions of other SF fans this is good news. I don't get why everyone on the internet has this bizarre notion that they're being forced to buy things. Capcom isn't going to your door and pointing a gun at you and forcing you to buy this game. So what the hell are you complaining about. Don't buy it. Lord knows the SF community doesn't give a shit if you're playing it or not.

you can buy it ofcourse because your nothing but a tool in the eyes of Capcom so yeah go ahead keep getting fucked by Capcom and them asking to open up your wallet every year with a Street Fighter game.
I want to play this as these new characters also but I'm not stupid enough to buy another copy of a game when the extra content should come as a update and paid DLC. Am I wrong or something? Could this have not easily have been a DLC pack? As a gamer I'm tired of this shit so why put up with it?

Nah. It changes the gameplay. Like, I said in another comment, it's like if they added punching to soccer and didn't make it its own sport.

It's because you're complaints are so irrelevant. If you don't think this is worth it then don't buy the damn game, but there are so many other people who find this to be really great news.
You're like the stupid people boycotting L4D2. If you liked the original shouldn't you be willing to pay for the next one? If not, then DON'T BUY THIS GAME.

Wow, for once I agree with you Solace. This should have been a DLC add-on, I'm not going to buy another version of the game, even at a discounted price, mainly because in the UK that means it'll still be at least £30.
I really don't see this selling very well.

I'm a huge Capcom fan and I've paid up when they've milked their cows to the death in the past, but yeah....I agree with Solace....fuck you Capcom, for doing this after a long enough period had passed that I thought you wouldn't pull this shit again.
I'll stick with my HD Remix; 4 is a dumbed down piece of crap anyway.

I have a legit complaint about this: "the character balancing is drastic enough to prevent cross-game matches between SFIV and its Super iteration".
I think with other games that make 'new versions' its fine, but with an online multiplayer focused game it's not fine. What ends up happening is that the community gets split in two. Those that "just dont buy it" have a smaller pool of players to play against, effectively lowering the games online lifespan. I don't think its right to take away part of a game that people who already paid for.

That's still not a all that legitimate problem. Most of the people who've been playing Street Fighter online months after release and well into the future are big SF fans who will probably purchase SSF4 day one. The people who gave up playing Street Fighter after a week or two probably aren't coming back any time soon, and if they really liked SF enough they'd just go buy the update. You should be happy that the changes to the engine are serious enough that they can't allow cross platform play; it's just more reason that everyone's bitching is baseless since there are apparently so many changes.

I'd also like to add that after a year (and yes, it'll be about a year since SF3 when SSF4 comes out) the community wouldn't really be as thriving anyway. It'll basically be boiled down to the hardcore by that time. Few games in America have a really strong longspan life and most of those are incredibly popular FPS games (Halo, TF2 PC, COD:MF). So SSF4 wouldn't really be harming the online of SF4 anyway, since SF4 is already and increasingly less online played game, especially when compared to Halo and COD.

...couldn't they just patch the old version? Obviously you'd miss out on the new characters but at least they could fix cross-title multiplayer.
