They also might be removing characters in an attempt to rebalance the game and make it better as a whole. You can do a complete overhaul as DLC.

I love how every single person in this thread talks like they know how distributing DLC for a game (or making a game) really works.

If I'm wrong, and you really do, please tell me. Otherwise, quit the crying already.

It's like "OMG the DLC isn't $5!!!!!! BOYCOTT!!"

Give it a rest cheapskates.

A lot of folks posting here must be new to the Street Fighter franchise. This is standard fare for them. They release a base version of a fighting game and then release at least 2 subversions of the game with balancing updates, new levels and new characters. And you know what? It seems it's been working for them all right so far. As a huge Street Fighter fan (and fighting game fan, period) since the beginning, I am looking forward to this most definitely.

If you think it's a rip, don't buy it and move on to your next grief and save all of us from having to scroll past your meaningless and useless posts.

Why is it that everybody is so fast to jump on this saying it's a "good deal" when everybody was throwing a HUGE fit that ODST wasn't DLC, and I'm pretty sure it had more content then this update?
Don't get me wrong, more Street Fighter is more Street Fighter, but what was acceptable back in the SNES days is a little different now, especially since we can download full games to HDDs.
This seriously seems like Capcom screwing their older fans for more money. As evidenced by this thread, us old SNES owners who bought multiple versions of the same game will be like "yeah! I remember doing this before! this is awesome!" while all the younger, more up-to-date people realize this could just be DLC in this day-and-age.
And yes, a "clever" response is "just don't buy it then," but that isn't addressing the issue at hand: that Capcom is selling you the same game with a few new features.
They should just release Super as the "Platinum Hits" version for $30, and pull SF4 from shelves (kinda like what they did for LBP and Mass Effect). That would make more sense.

Because:

ODST was originally supposed to be an add-on.
ODST is being sold at full price.
Bungie doesn't have this as their M.O.

You don't seem to get that there is no issue at hand. If you truly feel that Capcom is selling you and overpriced game that doesn't add enough content to require then don't purchase it - maybe wait a few months for the price to go down. Nobody who played hundreds of hours of SF is going to feel in anyway ripped off by this. Capcom isn't really doing anything wrong so there's no reason to get up in arms about it.

Wow, I can't believe how times have changed for games so much that casuals are whining. It won't even be full price.

A: You have no fighting-game history. Capcom used to do a new SF game every year (in each series), with massive changes. SSF2 on Gen/SNES was like $80! Importing each new title would be like $60-80. So STFU. Times are good now.

B: SFIV isn't very good. It's a good blueprint, but it's an outsourced project meant to play like SSF2T. It's a miracle it didn't turn out much worse. This is a chance for Capcom themselves to fix a LOT wrong with the game now that there's been a year of big SFIV tournies.

C: The online is far shiitier than it should be (compared to U.S. coding for MvC2/SF:HD/GGPO). DLC won't fix this because they did it wrong in the first place.

If you want to keep fighting the CPU, bitch away, no one is forcing you to take fighting games seriously. if you actually care about SF be overjoyed.

As long as I don't have to unlock all the characters again from scratch, it's cool with me.

Also, PLEASE add in Dudley or Makoto. Thanks!

well, judging from your name, I doubt you're really going to listen objectively, but we'll see. You are correct, I have no idea hoe DLC coding or distribution works. I do however know how gaming programing works. SSF4 has to use the same base code, whether you're adding or removing characters, re-balancing adding new stages or whatever. If the game were going to be re-made from the ground up, it would be full price. (which I hear it isn't.) Assuming that it is the same base code, writing a modification to that code is simple, especially if you are already familiar with said code. Look at PC gamers. Everything from First person shooters to friggin Diablo 2 has been modded. By amateurs, I might add. Google "MUGEN fighting". Its a fighting game shell. I've seen perfect iterations of SF3 characters for it. all done by people that had to learn the code second-hand. No, this is capcom being greedy. They could have created a patch that would change SF4 to Super SF4 and sold it for $20. I would have gladly paid $20 for it. Don't assume that were cheapskates because we smell a rotten deal.

Capcom has been doing this for years. December 29, 1995 Release date for Street Fighter Alpha, Release date for Street FIghter Alpha 2 February 27, 1996, and release date for Street Fighter Alpha 3 December 1998.

Same shit happened with Street Fighter III. Release date for Street Fighter III: New Generation was February 4, 1997, Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact October 30, 1997, Street Fighter III Third Strike: released May 12, 1999. You didn't complain about then but you're complaining now. This Gen is filled with a bunch of complaining morons.

It's the same nonsense as the L4D2 boycott. It's so weird that all these SF neophytes are crawling out of the woodwork to comment about how injust this is and how they're not buying it till it's 20 dollars and released as DLC to stick it to Capcom. It makes no sense though, because anyone who knows the franchise realized this was going to happen and doesn't care about paying 40-50 dollars for another few hundred hours of SF.

The rebalancing should be a free update available to current owners of SFIV, but 8 new characters! That's definitely worth a whole nother purchase for me, most of my friends, and all the other hardcore fans....Halo ODST for full price was ridiculous for me but I bet it was justified for many others. You win some u lose some, not everyone will always be happy

In the age of Rock Band and GTAIV where a game can exist as an ever-expanding platform, things like Lost Planet Colonies and Super Street Fighter IV are expected to be offered as DLC updates. But we are also still in the age of Madden, where droves of people are more than willing to shell out full price for something that's minimally updated annually. If you want to send a message to Capcom, boycott EA Sports.

They should have released the game right in the first place. The current game is an unplayable piece of shit due to the difficulty and cheating AI. Seth should be removed from the game completely.

Capcom can suck it.

So would everyone be angry about this if they had just called it Street Fighter V?

I've seen sequels with far less new characters and balancing and noone seems to get this upset.

I've heard conflicting reports about the number of new characters, but regardless of whether it's 8 or 10, that's FAR out of the ordinary for a fighting game, except for maybe KOF (which also removes characters on top of adding them) or an anime game (which doesn't put much emphasis on balance whatsoever, since you're playing it to use your favorite characters). That alone sells me on this as an actual purchase.

I feel sort of like a vast minority among gamers because I honestly had no problem spending another 60 dollars on this. The fact that it's less than 60 is awesome.

The lack of cross title play is ridiculous, and will cripple the SF online community. There needs to be a low cost patch for the original owners, say if the game is $25,..then original game owners only pay $15 to upgrade...there are already less people playing this as other online games like Halo and COD come out, why split us more?

I read ever post up until I posted. Both sides of the Battle so to speak have valid points about the new SSFIV. I been playing Street Fighter since it's inseption, I really don't have a probelm buying another one because I have done so in the past. Sorry to all of those who feel CAPS cheated them with the new game and not DLC. My suggestion would be to rent it when it comes out and if you like it enough then buy it. To the hard core SF fans like myself we will be stalekd out at our local store waiting to get our hands on Juri, DeeJay, T. Hawk and whomever they add in the mix.

Please let it be: Karin, Alex, Ibuki, Sean, Ingrid, Dudley & Makato.
