GamerBytes has some details about the remake of invertebrate warrior Earthworm Jim's first outing. Speaking with Gameloft, the graphically updated title will be based on the Sega Genesis version, but will have "smoother animations" and feature several difficulty levels. The game will also include the bonus "Big Bruty" level that was featured in the Sega CD and PC releases of the original.
Earthworm Jim will blast onto Xbox Live Arcade first, followed by PSN and WiiWare. Gameloft is currently "considering" a PSP Minis version.

I hope not. The CD versions of EWJ had some of the best music of all time.

The SNES version had better graphics but suffered from more slowdown. I never liked the reduced color pallete of Genesis games. The sound was also better on the SNES version.

I saw both SNES and Genesis versions back in the day.... there can be no argument that EWJ on the SNES had better graphics and sound, becuase the hardware was superior. Same goes for the Lion King incidentally as that randomly came up during the thread.....

You should have played the PC version. They cut out a few levels, but the music was amazing as well as the graphics.

@Ghen I loved those too. I also liked TMNT Re-shelled as well.
I'm hoping this is another one on that list.

Surely they'd consider a DSiWare version as well if they're looking at a PSP Minis version.

Any good artist knows contrast is key. There's no contrast in the new shot. Even the part of the rocks to the left that are mostly cut off are now light green compared to the dark colors. The dirt has no shadows on it as well. It's all too flat because of this. If they just added shading and some darker colors in the palate they could have utilized the ability to remake this in HD.
Personally, despite it's poorer resolution, the one on the left looks more life like. Yes.. even the tree branch. It at least looked like bark.
The other one.. looks like milk chocolate...

For the people not paying attention: This picture is of the iPhone version, and may not represent the quality of the final HD versions.

I'll buy it if they fix Down the Tubes and make it into something that doesn't ruin the whole game.

Can you feel the 1080P Awesomeness?

If they can have the game run at a smooth 60fps, smooth out the pixels and tighten up the controls I would definitely jump on it.

Why are nerds whining about the SNES game having better graphics when this remake is remaking all the graphics?

The average on Metacritic for the 1994 tree branch is 8.6
The average on Metacritic for the 2009 tree branch is 7.9
Metacritic is never wrong.

Jim looks good, but the background looks like a series of bad photoshop filters. Will Dan Castellaneta be doing voice work?

I owned the SNES version and it was a great game for its time, but I have 0 interest in a remake. If I'm ever looking to take a nostalgia trip, I'd prefer the original 16 bit graphics anyway. Make a new game (that doesn't suck), then we'll talk.

Yay! Now I can NOT beat "Down the Tubes" in HD! I loved this game, but DAMN that level was hard, so do I have start over from the beginning every time I get a game over still?

I agree, the new version looks a lot like generic garbage to me, free of all imagination or style. I hope to shit this isn't indicative of the final product.
