First details, screenshots of Ninja Theory's Enslaved
47
After teasing the partnership a little over a month ago at Germany's Gamescom, publisher Namco Bandai and UK-based developer Ninja Theory are ready to finally reveal some details of their upcoming "original, new IP" for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3: Enslaved. The game takes place in a "perilous, post-apocalyptic America" and centers on protagonists Monkey and Trip. That's right, protagonists, plural. You'll control the musclebound Monkey, while Trip -- a "technologically savvy but sheltered young woman" -- remains AI-controlled. Think: Half-Life 2's Alyx ... except considerably more manipulative. Recognizing her need for Monkey's "raw strength and power," Trip has linked their slave headbands so "if she dies, he dies." Uh, thanks partner?
Helping Ninja Theory along its quest is Andy "Gollum" Serkis who is lending his considerable motion-capture acting abilities to the developer once more, following his work on the PS3-exclusive Heavenly Sword. Also joining the project is novelist, screenwriter, and video game newcomer Alex Garland, who you may recognize from his work on the novel The Beach and the screenplay for 28 Days Later. Enslaved is "planned for release in 2010," which we'll unofficially translate as "late 2010."
Since you've got some waiting to do, why not take a peek at the first screenshots from the game?

Just about to finish up Heavenly Sword, and it's been quite fun, looking forward to this already.

My Xbox friends dogged HS (well, only the ones that never played it). But, they pretty much dogged everything PS3 related back then. But, to this day, it's one of the best games I've played. The characters were awesome, and the voice acting was stellar. I mean, who didn't love Bohan and that Fox guy? Me and two of my friends (who were die-hard Xboxers) spent an entire weekend playing that game until we finished it. When one of us died a couple times, we passed the controller and two watched while the other played. And the three of us sat amazed for the entirety of the game. Can't wait to see what Ninja Theory offers up next.

One long escort mission? That doesn't sound too appealing.

sounds intriguing. Heavenly Sword was definitely an underappreciated game; not necessarily perfect, but it had some well executed mechanics (save for the inability to jump). hopefully Enslaved borrows all of HS' better elements (assuming it's anything like HS).

I read about this in my game informer, very exciting. I think the story is interesting. Ships flying over the countryside picking up the last of the humans, was one of the backdrops mentioned. I LOVED Heavenly Sword! Very Excited for this!!!

I just finished Heavenly Sword this week and really enjoyed it (though I am glad that I didn't buy it when it first came out due to cost vs length). I also absolutely loved Kung Fu Chaos, their first game. That game seriously needs a follow-up, too much fun. So these guys definitely have some built up good karma with me.

The city looks like "Infamous: 500 years later".
And that's a good thing. This game looks like it's going to be sweeeeet.

Not sure why Sony didn't try to lock Ninja Theory as an exclusive developer. Heavenly Sword was one of the better games released in the PS3s early life cycle if I recall.

I personally thought Heavenly Sword was kinda lame, but it seemed like it had some serious potential. When I read about this game in a Game Informer article a couple of weeks ago, I was pretty impressed by some of the concepts (not to mention the art style.) Enslaved is now definitely on my radar.

nice to see so many HS fans in one place. It was one of the first games I picked up for my PS3, shortly after it came out (for $40 none-the-less!) and I loved it. While far from perfect, the cinematic story-telling was just amazing. really good mo-cap helped. maybe a touch short, but at least it didn't drag on forever.

Damn this game has a solid pedigree. The devs of Heavenly Sword (I may I liked way more than I thought I would), Andy Serkis (holy shit was his work on HS wonderful), and Alex Garland (everyone likes a good writer).
At first I was like "I dunno, this doesn't sound all that hot." But now, bring this game the hell on, folks.

These guys have a lot of nerve. Three original IPs in a row, that's almost unheard of anymore. Game looks interesting for sure.

What is this nonsense? Post-apocalyptic environments with color? I was under the impression that the apocalypse turns everything gray and brown.
Seriously though, it looks pretty cool. Heavenly Sword was an amazing and under-appreciated gem. This should be a treat.

I liked Heavenly Sword a lot, I really wish it got patched for trophies. Must keep my eyes on this one.

As long as there are no over the top obnoxious difficulty spikes like Heavenly Sword, I would be interested in trying it out.
