LucasArts seeking testers for Star Wars: The Old Republic
Be still, beating, midichlorian-infused heart -- LucasArts is looking for players to test its story-driven MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The official call to action deftly avoids the use of the B-word and stipulates that the testing will be executed on an extremely limited scale. If you're hoping to get in on the massively-multiplayer lightsaber action, you can sign up on the Account page of the game site.
Actually, we really want to get into this test, so ... how about you sit this one out? C'mon, wouldn't you rather watch some YouTube videos of adorable puppies instead? Look at them! With their little waggly tails.

For me to do this I would need to buy my first desktop computer.
JNub @ Sep 29th 2009 3:37PM
I heard from undisclosed sources that LukeArts is seeking testers just heard it threw the grapevine you know undisclosed
Alive @ Sep 29th 2009 3:37PM
The site crashed
Wince @ Sep 29th 2009 3:40PM
Yeah, they took the site down hours ago. We don't even know if they'll put the application back up.
Dirty @ Sep 29th 2009 3:40PM
We done killed it. I hope I get in this one. This is the only MMO I am remotely interested in.
BananaBoat @ Sep 29th 2009 3:40PM
I'm having flashbacks of the Halo 3 beta signup right now.

Their tails are so waggly!

We arrive at the site only to find a meteor shower. In the distance I spot a faraway moon.
Hugh77 @ Sep 29th 2009 3:50PM
That's no moon.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 29th 2009 3:50PM
That's no moo--
ahh, fuck it. You know the rest.
EvilGhaleon @ Sep 29th 2009 4:08PM
...You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
jynxycat @ Sep 29th 2009 3:44PM
The website blew up hours ago :P
That and to even have a chance to get in, you have to be an active member of the community/forums.
Chance are, if you're just signing up on a whim, you're wasting your/their time.
Snowblind @ Sep 29th 2009 3:51PM
Yeah, the amount of people jumping on expecting to get in is a bit ridiculous. It's not like they're just going to take the first few people who manage to sign up.
I like the fact they're doing something for those of us who regularly post on the forums.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 29th 2009 4:00PM
@Snowblind
It's not like the stipulations of getting into the testing were posted within Joystiq's post. We're interested in the game immensily and we want to play just as much as you do. If you have to be an avid poster on the forums, so be it. But don't act like because you post on a forum more than I do, you're better than me.
Snowblind @ Sep 29th 2009 4:12PM
I never said anything about anyone being better.
Just that it's a nice bonus for those that've been supporting the community.
Rhamsey @ Sep 29th 2009 4:37PM
I'm a semi active member (a post/poll ever other week) and I doubt I will even get looked at. there are some people with hundreds of post in just the old republic forums. Those are the bastards who will get it.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 29th 2009 3:49PM
It looks like I came out of cyberspace into an asteroid field.
Maulok @ Sep 29th 2009 3:55PM
Seek no more, weary Lucasarts, for we the Joystiq Nation, are here!
Old Professor Zertoss @ Sep 29th 2009 4:17PM
I'll sign up just to take a spot away from Joystiq staff. If I get in, I'll gladly give it to a staff member in exchange for one of those swank Joystiq t-shirts.
Rhamsey @ Sep 29th 2009 4:35PM
"Thank you for visiting www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com. We are making adjustments to the site due to the overwhelming response to the testing announcement. Please be patient and check back later. We estimate that the site will be back up in the next few hours."
Fuck all of you, I want this so badly.
Zurv @ Sep 29th 2009 4:39PM
hopefully they have an age limit to play ^_-
finnith @ Sep 29th 2009 8:59PM
It's been a lot longer than "a few hours" :(
SaltyGary @ Sep 29th 2009 4:42PM
Damn they took the page down. How about more puppy videos:

I enjoyed that puppy video.
Maccadude33 @ Sep 29th 2009 9:27PM
As much as I would love to test this out, I doubt by now that I could ever make it in, nor would I be able to get off the PC playing it. I loved KotOR so much. Still hoping for an Xbox port of some kind.
finnith @ Sep 29th 2009 10:29PM
O god I want in so badly but I know I would fail out of uni if I did.
finnith @ Sep 30th 2009 12:00AM
site's up!
Nergon @ Sep 30th 2009 12:02AM
This IS a sign of things to come. If they can't even anticipate the load on a web server for beta testing sign-ups, it's going to be one of *those* MMO launches. Hey we're ready for beta test sign-ups. Oh, I guess we aren't. And the night they have record-setting sales for a new MMO: Hey we're ready for everyone to play our game. Oh, I guess we aren't. :)
finnith @ Sep 30th 2009 12:06AM
Weird the site was up and I almost got through the signup process but it went down again and now I'm sad :(
n0ne @ Sep 30th 2009 12:52AM
It's up and down, keep refreshing, you'll get threw guys...
mdock @ Sep 30th 2009 9:49AM
Got through and completed sign up, but it didn't create my account. Still busted.
bryan @ Sep 30th 2009 10:30AM
So I tried signing up. First thing you do is you create an account. So I go through the account process, and it asks if you want to sign up for the beta. I clicked yes, and I go through and put in my personal information for the beta and click continue. Well that sends you right back to the Account Creation. You go through account creation again, and it takes you to personal information. Then round and round and round. I don't know what's going on with them, but they can't seem to be getting this right.
xanotos @ Sep 30th 2009 3:40PM
If you create an account and then when it asks you if you want to participate in the testing, say you will do it later.
Then you account will be active and you can go back and update the testing information.
Sadly, the testing page still is not working :(
