PlayStation & Xbox hardware gets the Body Worlds treatment at Japanese museum
Seen in Engadget's video above, one thin layer of glass is all that prevents the intrepid cameraman from reaching into the displays and pulling bits from here, bobs from there to assemble the world's first supermega-gen console: XStation 720. Knowing better, he chooses instead to give us a piece-by-piece visual rundown of what the museum offered for display at this year's Tokyo Game Show. We appreciate your self-control, kind sir.

He thinks the XBox 360 is hot...so he's going do the "towel trick" to it.
That joke can go two ways.
AerialAngel @ Sep 29th 2009 1:48AM
Its actually nice to see this.
God the ps3 slim has like 243 less parts then the fat versions.
pete @ Sep 29th 2009 7:00PM
yea i was surprised how similar they were in size though...
makimak22 @ Sep 29th 2009 1:56AM
Welcome to the Console Buffet.
Our Chef's suggestions:
- Xbox360 with BluRay drive, WiFi, Bluetooth and a BIG cooling fan
- PS3 Slim with added PS2/PS1 hardware (for BC)
blazinsmokey @ Sep 29th 2009 3:00AM
see the japanese dude at the end?
looking at the xbox stuff like wtf are those?
Enduros @ Sep 29th 2009 11:54AM
@ Blazinsmokey
He's probably wondering where all those cheap parts came from.
shanesh @ Sep 29th 2009 6:31PM
He's probably laughing inside to him self because hes the one who sold those cheap parts
tafuub @ Sep 29th 2009 3:05AM
The crazy thing is the most stand out piece out of all of those is the PS3 fan, man that thing is a monster.
Chromekreeper @ Sep 29th 2009 9:26AM
are you saying us ps3 fans are monsters?!?
E.J. @ Sep 29th 2009 3:14AM
I wonder if the Xbox 360 on display is a red-ring'd donation. Either that or a retailer gave it away considering how it sells in Japan. ZING!
Rop @ Sep 29th 2009 3:54AM
Calling all the tech experts here, I'm curious as to whether or not the purpose of that white tubular casket housing only a certain side and part of the heat sinks is vital, or a detriment to the whole cooling process? Wouldn't parts of the heat build up on the other side of that casket as well?
Judging by the innards and all, does that white casket do the cooling any justice? I was wondering if it would be able to sustain a better heat dissipation if that white casket thing is removed or not? Any tech-perts here could elaborate on this? It's always been a baffle to me.
Graeme Q @ Sep 29th 2009 8:30AM
The white casket is used to channel airflow to the hottest parts.
I suspect if you removed it, the overall temperature would rise and the hot bits would fry.
Rop @ Sep 29th 2009 9:09AM
I suppose it is in place to channel the hot air, as you put it Graeme - as it creates a vacuum of sort - but as it is, it's only housed on one side. Instead of housing the entire heat sinks altogether, and surely, seeing as on the other side there are no white caskets housed to the heat sinks, heat would escape to the hollows of the interior.
Why isn't it housed over the entire heat sinks? I've never seen anything like it....

no dreamcast and n64. i hate some of you!
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Sep 29th 2009 4:52AM
No SNES? This is bullshit
Optimaximal @ Sep 29th 2009 6:47AM
The question is, if they break apart a Wii, are there just 2 GameCubes and a load of duct tape inside?
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Sep 29th 2009 3:42PM
With no DVD Drive, but a money printer.
oOWallaceOo @ Sep 29th 2009 7:04AM
"the world's first supermega-gen console: XStation 720."
You spelt Dreamcast 2 wrong

I forgot just how big the damn Original Xbox controller were...
amdeida @ Sep 29th 2009 8:25AM
I much prefer PlayBox 720 :)
Graeme Q @ Sep 29th 2009 8:31AM
I never realised how big the PS3 Slim was. Its still huge despite its size reduction :)
Hasn't there been at least 4 hardware changes to the xbox 360 as well regarding heatsinks, cpu and gpu configurations? I guess the same basic concept between them is all the same. (applies to the power supplies as well)
GuardianBob @ Sep 29th 2009 8:48AM
Is disassemble. Make dead. No disassemble! Number Five cannot.
Why? Why cannot?
Is wrong. Incorrect. Newton Crosby, PhD, not know this?
Of course I know it's wrong to kill, but who told you?
I told me.
Nobledevil @ Sep 29th 2009 10:19AM
F***in' A, that was well done, sir.
Nobledevil @ Sep 29th 2009 10:21AM
What is it about the internals of computer hardware that make the nerd in me enjoy it so?
I'd like to some older consoles with the same treatment, like Ataris, NES and SNES, Sega systems. Would be nice to see the difference in little things like fan sizes (if the console had one at all), motherboard sizes, etc.
The1stMJC @ Sep 29th 2009 12:36PM
Monsters!!!
Why god would someone do that to those innocent consoles?
ZetoSanNi @ Sep 30th 2009 12:15AM
Mix it all together.. zomg.. PlayXtation362
