If anybody wants to know about the update outside of losing their ability to play pirated games and probably pirated music and movies:

Loading games from the SD card seems to be way faster.

I'm going to flat-out say that I don't give a damn if people pirate or not.

I know.

I just see all of these "ZOMG piracy is teh evil" posts. While I understand the sentiment, the truth of the matter is, I don't care, and since the discussion has largely turned into that, I thought I might throw my opinion in for the lulz since its sure to be downvoted. I'm sorry, I just find most copyright laws pretty ridiculous and a joke, so I see no problem boycotting them. I also wonder how many people here who are anti-piracy pirate other things such as music, or watch TV show clips on youtube, or do other stuff like this which is breaking and supporting copyright infringements. But with this? How AWFUL and EVIL.

Well, I simply don't care, ka-ching. That doesn't mean that *I* copyright, but I don't care if others do who can get away with it.

Homebrew itself is not illegal. Heck, most emulators aren't illegal, either. But, if the emulator requires a BIOS file (PS2, Dreamcast, PSX, Gamecube, etc) and you use a file that you didn't back up on your own, then yes, that would make it illegal. If homebrew is so "illegal", what's wrong with playing MP3s that you legally own on a homebrew media player that has infinitely more functionality than the photo channel ever had!? Did I hear you correctly? The universal MP3 file format was dropped for the useless, never-before-heard-of-much-less-ever-will-use AAC format? Don't make me laugh. I legally purchased the wii console, so, don't I theoretically have the right to install whatever I want to, so long as it's not copyrighted (hardware can't be copyrighted as far as I know)? Nintendo needs to get the hint; most of us are sick of seeing nothing but releases no one cares about.

Listen retards. Hombrew isn't entirely used to pirate games. I use it to activate the Gecko OS program to play Japanese game. WHICH I LEGALLY PAID FOR!! So I'm not pirating

I find the entire patching hilarious if the 'system improvement in functionality' is stripping the pirates of their damn toys. Sure I pity the vast minority who are honorable with it, but the scumbags misuse your same too to be jackholes so it serves them right and sadly the few who are clean get the shaft.

Is anyone here familiar with the actions of the rest of the update at all or was that really it other than upgrading something to go along side of the Nintendo Channel update.

Wow. The anti-piracy crowd are high and mighty today. Sad thing is, you guys can flame and shame the pirates all day long but they won't care.

Why does everyone think of homebrew = piracy?

Come on, guys...homebrew is faar mooore than that!!!

For example, it's thanks to homebrew that I turned my Wii into my media center (I don't even have a media center at home) through the use of mplayer_ce. It connects to my net via SMB and I can watch movies from my couch, listen to music, listen to shoutcast radio...heck, I even use the homebrew channel to backup all my Miis and savegames (even locked ones) at once if I have to format the console!!!

(Losing SSB Brawl progress due to format? not any more with a homebrew app). ^-^

Piracy? PLEASE!! That's just ONE of the many uses homebrew developers have for the Wii.

Is there anyway to get rid of the update? To change back to 4.1 or something?.....

There should be a way in the system settings to roll back the system to the way it came from the factory. You'll lose all your stuff though (most of it can be redownloaded). If you try it then you should back up your game saves (those that you can back up) and miis first. You'll have reduced functionality in some channels untill or unless you update the system with a game that has a system update on it.

Except you legally allow them to do what they will when you update your console. It's pretty obvious-- they even say in the ADVERTISEMENT of the update; not just the EULA; that if you have unauthorized modifications, they may cease functioning or have other problems. Nice big letters. It isn't Nintendo's fault if their users can't read.
