LinkedIn continues to provide our only link to the status of a true sequel to Dead Space. A recent job posting on the professional networking site, created by EA senior recruiter Jeff Ballard, reports, "The previous installment in the Dead Space franchise received numerous awards ... and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up." The posting adds, "The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place."
With the point-n-shoot spin-off, Dead Space Extraction, releasing this week for Wii, confirmation that the core-series sequel (expected for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) will soon roll into production phase comes as welcome news to fans looking for the franchise to stay the traditional course. Hopefully, EA and developer Visceral Games' transmissions will continue to pick up from here on out.

Just couldn't resist, could you Joystiq?
This makes me happy in the pants. I loved the first one. It was scary, beautiful, fun, and engaging. Definitely glad they're going back for more. I agree with Wayne though, it would be best to tell a side story with new characters, but still having ties to the original story.
Mirror's Edge 2 next?

I really loved the pacing and immersive interface from the first title... And the fact that it was a fresh IP helped a lot. I'm really curious what sort of improvements they've got up their sleeves!

Dead Space was my favorite "Oh shit, this is awesome" game of last year. A sequel can't come soon enough.

That's probably true. I was very pleasantly surprised by that game as well.

Hopefully they will put in more varied environments and no more run button (that's what an analog stick is for).

When I get scared, I can still push the analog stick just a bit, so there's no flaw for me.

Finally great news, I personally skipped RE5 because of Dead Space. Resident Evil just seemed soooooo...... retarded, after I played Dead Space. Sad thing is whenever I play it, I still somehow manage to be scared. The atmosphere in the game was second to none, especially the sound, surround sound at night in the dark, you very well might piss your pants.

So will Dead Space 2's box art feature another hand floating through space with only 2 fingers on it?

Great news. To prepare for this I need to restock my Jack and Coke supply

All I have to say about the original is that I did not find it scary at all (horror is more than flickering lights and something predictably jumping out at you) and that it was one of the easiest games I've played in the past couple years (yes, I beat the "impossible mode" and have the platinum). When the second comes out I'll probably do what I did for the first and just wait for the price to come down to $30-$40, the first wasn't bad, just not worth full price.

Great news. I hope the next game is even better than the first.

Our favourite badass space engineer Isaac Clarke better be coming back as the player character of this game or I'm gonna stomp on someone. AFTER dismembering them.

I really hoped this game was already in development for a fall 2010 release! Oh well. Guess I'll just have to slug away at my genitals in the meantime.

I'm curbing my enthusiasm for now. Microsoft might yet buy EA and make this a 360-only title.
And if that happens... then I shall have to kill this bunny:

Dead Space was a great new IP from EA and I'm glad to see it getting a sequel.
I would also love to see a sequel to Mirror's Edge.

i hadnt played Dead Space, i still need to find one on the discount bin, but looking how the Extraction one turned out to be, i'll be first playing Extraction and then going for the main one.
I'm pretty sure i rather not have spot filled later, thats why i hate when a game is a prequel to another game which i already played.
It has a nice touch when reaching a point on the prequel and saying "ooooo, so there is where it came from", but really, i like to be immerse on a story 100% instead of leaving holes on it

You should grab Dead Space. It's already down to $20 at Target discount bins. That's a steal for what's arguably the most enjoyable survival horror title to come out this year.

I love Dead Space so much, I only wish there was some actual Dead Space merchandise!!!! Why is it that the one game from EA that I fall in love with ISN'T getting milked to the bone with merch? Come on, just give me a t-shirt or poster or SOMETHING!!

Hopefully they put effort into it and make it even better than the first. But I have a feeling it'll be a EA copy and paste job....
