With Activision already asking consumers to plunk down over $100 for the DJ Hero peripheral later this month, it's only fair that more games use it -- but only if those titles belong to the publisher. With that, GI.biz reports that "at least one independent UK games developer" is working with Activision's Freestyle Games on DJ Hero 2. Go on ... pretend you're in any way surprised.
Considering what Activision has done with the Guitar Hero franchise, it wouldn't exactly be a shock if DJ Hero 2, DJ Hero 3 and DJ Hero: Scratch the '80s all hit within a year of each other.

For those of you at home just getting introduced to the Hero franchise via DJ Hero, let me translate what this news means...
*ahem*
Don't bother buying DJ Hero, because DJ Hero 2 will feature a new controller with updated features. Not to mention that the first DJ Hero will be left out to dry in terms of DLC, as they will be holding back for the sequel.

New conspiracy:
Hero peripherals are actually parts of a larger plot. They are unique pieces to a might battle droid that will annihilate all whom stand against Activisionmegalops.
When Drum Hero and Trumpet Hero hit the streets, the plan will unfold.

You mean you don't get it for free when it comes out with purchase of the first one?

I'm still partial to DJ Brooding hero. It comes with a razor at the end of the peripheral.

Anyone else growing tired of this rhythm game fad?

The only reason it's a "fad" is because Activision is turning it into one.
It's the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy. Activision is churning out titles for fear that they won't sell enough before people burn out on it, but they fail to realize that people are getting burned out BECAUSE they are churning out title after title.

Still, this doesn't change the fact that you can make a ton of money without being hated by the gaming public. From one CEO to another, acting like that will get you kicked out on the street in the long run.

Why on earth would anyone be surprised at this? It is not uncommon for any game developer to expect their first game to be followed up with a sequel. DJ Hero is probably 99% complete anyway, so why not have some of your people start on the next one?

Well here is the skinny chief. It's not uncommon at all. It's not the business sense of working on a sequel. It's the sicking feeling that it's not the only sequel coming, that said sequels will ensure that the gameplay doesn't allow for cross developer tool use, and of course the certain knowledge that Activision is a rapist. Corporations aren't angels, but usually they have the courtesy to hide their DP plans until it's too late.
And this time, we don't even have the hope that everyone will eventually play nice. I use my Guitar Hero III controller with Rockband, World Tour, etc. Crap, at least Madden uses the same controller and doesn't usually come in "Madden: Back When Your Team Was Good", "Madden Party", "Madden: Canadian Football", and of course "Madden All-Stars".

I don't disagree with you on most points, only thing is I can't imagine what other games would possibly use this controller anyway. Even Scratch the DJ will have very different gameplay so I'm not sure the DJ Hero would work anyway.

You're right, but it highlights the difficulty of the peripheral genre. Either your peripheral has to be for a MUST HAVE game or it has to have an ecosystem wider than that one game. One of the reason I bought GHIII on the cheap is because I knew that flimsy little guitar would work with World Tour and Rockband both.
I think a lot of the disgust around DJ Hero is that the game arrives at several unfortunate intersections: It applies to one game by one company irregardless of sequels, the peripheral is not impulse buy cheap, the rhythm genre is dying down, and yeah the company is Activision.
If you could patch World Tour to let you mix songs on the fly or some weird and new stuff like that, I don't think people would be talking so derisively about the peripheral.

What a trooper that cow is. With all the milking Activision is doing, you'd figure he/she'd would have keeled over and died by now.

They're making it easier though. I just have to remind myself that when I whip out Rockband, I can play my entire library with the original instruments I bought. If Rockband starts doing the same thing, well I'll be content with the mammoth pile of songs I have anyway.

This just in... COD MW3, Guitar Hero 6, Tony Hawk Ride 2, Band Hero 2, and DJ Hero 3 are all in the works. This is Activision after all.

You won't see a new Pitfall because it can't be exploited every year for a sequel.
