3D Dot Game Heroes looks delightfully familiar

If the frequent comparisons between From Software's upcoming blocky adventure title 3D Dot Game Heroes and The Legend of Zelda have been completely lost on you, then apparently you haven't seen the gameplay videos. The game does more than slyly reference the mainstays of Miyamoto's Triforce-hunting classic; it more or less recreates them. We're definitely not saying that's a bad thing -- we're just worried that Nintendo will eventually catch wise, and somehow prevent this charming little game from ever making it westward.

I disagree.

It's clearly inspired by the series but it's not a rip off. Is Final Fantasy a rip off of Dragon Quest and what not? Is gears of war a rip off of halo? Everything is different enough. You can't copyright a creature, world, etc. Its artwork does not reflect that of the Zelda series and no code was stolen. So, it could easily stand up in court.

Am I the only one who thinks this feels more like an homage than a ripoff?

Damn it this looks awesome. I sincerely hope this makes it to the western shores, would love to get my hands on it.

Also commenting on previous statements, this looks to be pretty obvious 'parody' (or at the very least homage) to Nintendo-esqe 2D games from back in the day. I mean there's a friggen' Mario lookin' character in one of the vids, am I the only one seeing this?

Anyways, love the graphical style. Something new and unique.

The game looks really awesome, but WHY THE HELL ARE THOSE SWORDS SO MASSIVE?

I'm guessing its just to show the physical area of effect, so whatever is in the swords path gets hit and it probably gets bigger with new weapons and upgrades.

Least that's my guess anyway

Wow, I thought it looked like a blatant ripoff in their first preview that barely showed gameplay footage, but this is the very definition of it.

And I can't wait for it to come out, the style is awesome and I can't wait to make my own character with the editor.

The Legend of Voxel Quest

Looks like a fun game but I hope they add a little more graphics to the what seems to be melee and magic attacks.

Link to the past is the best Zelda game imo.

Playing with Spelunker looks stupid hard. And yet, I want to play even more.

Also, that is a BIG sword...

This is a bit too blatant to be a parody. I understand they're trying to find an audience with the old school Ninty fans, but I also wanna see some footage of them showing off the capabilities of their engine, not just copying someone else's work.
