You probably weren't eagerly awaiting the return of self-aware game hero Matt Hazard. Oh sure, it's kind of a funny premise, but so was Ishtar and we all saw how that worked out. Besides, if you want to softly chuckle as you play a miserable game, the first Matt Hazard title is probably available for a pittance.
Regardless, we've brought you to this post to alert you to the existence Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath and Beyond now (officially) coming to XBLA and PSN. It's a really great name, but judging from the screenshot, we're assuming Darkened Structure was taken.

Don't get all worked up over nothing now. I never mentioned anything about anyone inventing a genre. Just look at the picks and tell me what you think it resembles most and get back to me when you're finished blowing things.

First thing I thought of, good call. Considering the first Matt Hazard blew too hard to get that cartridge working again, being Shadow Complex-y is a great thing.
To defend Uncle Jesse comparing Contra to Shadow Complex is like comparing Netscape to Google Chrome. . . . get over it.

I think Matt Hazard will be more enjoyable as a sidescroller.

I dunno Joystiq, considering this is a different genre, I'd give it a shot. I'm always game for more sidescrollers, and a couple of these screens look promising! Is that a Mirror's Edge reference?
RoMH is still on my list despite the bad reviews. Anybody got an extra copy for PS3 laying around? :D

No... that's totally not a Mirror's Edge spoof.

Are you in Europe by any chance? This game is dirt cheap on play:

Not that I'd ever want it, but to each his own. ;)

While all other sites rightfully call Epic out for not separating themselves from Metroidvania- Joystiq takes it upon themselves to think Shadow Complex should be given credit.
No, Crash Commando didn't utilize this feature nearly an entire year before SC or anything, and no EPOS wasn't able to create an awesome multiplayer game with it or anything. Epic did it all, apparently.

wait... what? Did you forget your meds today? What are you jabbering on about? There is no mention of SC anywhere in the story.... where does this jibba-jabba come from? Some random commenter mentioning it looks like a game they've most likely played before instead of mentioning one they haven't?
Look dude I hate to burst your bubble. But the side-scroller is not new, the 3d sidescrolling metroidvania game isn't even new. For example, you remember Terminal Reality's BlowOut, right? I assume you do, for all the rage and indignation you bring to bear here I would expect you've played every game in this genre. Speaking of which, why don't you tell us about the 3D metroidvania style titles that came before BlowOut? You know what they are, right? If not, why are you being so huffy and acting like an expert?

@AoE: "Darkened Structure" links to the shadow-complex tag.
Anyway, the reason Joystiq references Shadow Complex specifically is because of the "enemies in the background that can shoot at you" bit that Metroid and Casltevania don't have. This mechanic is clearly present in these screenshots.

If they release this for disk I'll buy it but not on digital download (I rarely buy those).

Yeah, Joystiq's bias. Not just that the other game was a total flop and not very good too.

From full game to XBLA? If this doesn't work, where can they go then?

I am sure that it is Blood, Bath and Beyond as in "Bed, Bath and Beyond"...it is a play on words as in Play On Words.
Wow.....sigh.....must we explain everything to the dumb?
Thought the best is when the dumb try and correct the smart and do it in a snide manner.

@Mal F4cti0n,
No... we really don't need to. To be honest, I think it's actually a lot more fun to watch them make asses of themselves and learn the hard way.
However, since you're correcting someone else, it makes you fair game... I think you left an extra "t" at the end of "Though" ;)

No fucking shit it's a pun. Duuhhh. Thank you captain goddamn obvious.
I personally find it laughable that every tiny little detail must be disclaimed in explicit detail so the norms who think they're actual cognitive beings can comprehend.
Wow. I thought it was obvious in my post that I FUCKING GOT THE SHITTY PUN.
Think outside of that port-a-potty you call a brain for once, Joystiq simps.

the original had an AWESOME premise, and a hilarious backstory. the game itself was... playable. not good. playable. BUT, it had Will Arnett and NPH, which made it amazing. plus, the game ejaculated trophies all over my hard drive. and this looks like shadow complex... so... i might check it out. maybe. if it has NPH in it.

I liked Eat Lead. It was fun, funny, and kind of original in the same way Airplane (the movie) was.
I will probably check this one out.
