Kinda looking forward to NSMB Wii, not sure for $50 though. Guess I won't have much of a choice since they won't drop the price for 5 years.

Yeah, it's better to take pre-order bonuses than waiting for Nintendo to drop the prices on their AAA games.

Amazon has $10 credit on video games if you pre-order it. That would basically be NSMB Wii for $37... it's very tempting...

I'm looking forward to it as well. The DS version was a lot of fun, even if too much on the easy side.

Yeah, that price won't be going down any time soon. I wouldn't worry about it though, Nintendo wouldn't let this game suck...I hope.

It looks like an awesome party game and one that I could enjoy going solo through as well. Definitely looking forward to it. As fun as Wii Sports Resort is, it's still just mini-games. I need a new adventure!

Let me guess tmac, you don't want to drop $50 on NSMB Wii because it's not in HD? Because everything else about this game is packed. This is a full fledged effort in the vein of the 2D Super Mario Bros. series, not some "mini game crap fest" genre type game that you so frequently annouce that you hate in every Wii Sports Resort thread ever made.

"in the vein of the 2D Super Mario Bros"

That's precisely why I'm not sure if I want to spend $50 on it. Just making a new 2d super mario with updated graphics and adding a couple new things in it isn't very convincing, and the multiplayer does absolutely nothing for me. There really doesn't appear to be a whole lot of game here.

For some reason this doesn't look polished. It reminds me of a level edit using old artwork. It's just not cohesive looking to me. Pretty, but not cohesive.

I hope I've made it clear that I'm a fully fledged Nintendo Fanboy and I'm agreeing with tmac, not for the first time since I hate wiisports and crap sports minigames too. But still, in all its rarety.

I have no interest in this whatsoever, it's just that they aren't really bringing anything new to the table, yes the classic mario is a killer formula but they need to stop me from just playing an old version somehow and for a game like mario new levels and upgrades don't quite cut it. why not a new way to experience old things? this game could have the customizability added to it that littlebigplanet had and it would work exactly the same and give me a million reasons to buy it.

but no

I hope it's more similar to Super Mario World then NSSB for DS was. The levels do look promising so far. Here's to hoping for a pretty engaging game.

How about a NSMB2 for the DS? Knowing how Nintendo rolls, this is probably in development but won't be revealed until E3 2012.

As long as they don't do too much forced co-op (they said there would be some things that cannot be attained alone, but none of that will be in the main line, as it were), i'll be all over this. So far it seems to have more of a SMW/SMB3 vibe going for it, what with Yoshi and those neat-o suits.

No this game is going to suck. The fact that they couldn't be bothered with putting a 2d platformer so focused on multiplyaer online is a testament to how lazy Nintendo is getting. Couple that with the fact this this is obviously aimed at the Wii Music crowd (no other game in the world will play itself from start to finish, though I guess you can do a very basic 4 player with the CPU) and this game has a snowball's chance of hell of being worth anything. And that's for the very few of us who have 4 gamers in one spot at any one time (children with siblings don't count, grow up damnett), because otherwise you aren't playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

Not to mention the fact that this engine was built for the DS.... No. Just no. For 30 dollars maybe this would be ok, but this game should probably be a Wiiware DL, not a 50 dollar retail product.

Looking forward to Spirit Tracks though. Certainly need to get that + Starfy.

I already justified my comment, quit fapping all over this just because it has Mario in the title.
That's half the problem with the industry today, so long as something has Halo or Mario or Guitar Hero or something similar stamped on it it's guaranteed to be a best seller

Saying "this game is aimed towards the Wii music crowd and has, what I believe to be, weak graphics" does not count as justification. Nintendo dropped the ball on not including online multiplayer but Miyamoto pretty much confirmed that this was impossible with the Wii (for one reason or another). The price point may end up being your most valid gripe. Too bad it doesn't actually pertain to the quality of the game itself.

Way to make assumptions, AGAIN.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Are you saying kids can't play this with their siblings?

Retarded.

1. If this game isn't aimed at the most casual of casual, then why does it need an option to play itself when it gets too difficult? You are probably far too young to remember SMB 2 on NES, but with the exception of that one game I've never met anybody who couldn't at least reach the ending on a 2d mario game, if not get all of everything. Face it, this should be called Wii Mario not NSMB Wii.
2. I never said jack shit about the graphics idiot. I said it was built from the DS engine, WHICH IT WAS. This game uses the same engine as the DS game. That's a fact, not opinion, learn the difference.
3. Miyamoto said the system couldn't handle all the stuff going on in this game while it was online, which is bullshit. If the Wii can handle 4 player SSBB online, and 12 player MK online, how can it not handle a 2d platformer?

Go ahead and quit pissing away money on shovelware. Just don't come crying to me when nobody bothers putting effort into their games anymore.

1) It's an option for a reason. If Nintendo wants to rope in new gamers, most of them would benefit from this sort of thing. You're not forced to use it if you don't want to. Also, way to assume once more. I still own a copy of Doki Doki Panic that I happened to pick up in Akiba god knows how long ago. What's so hard to understand about the naming? It's a Wii version (READ: not a port) of the NSMB game that was released for the DS.

2)"Not to mention the fact that this engine was built for the DS" I apologize for making the assumption that you were talking about the graphics engine, specifically. I'm not sure what else you could be alluding to with the comment, otherwise.

3) Good question. Nintendo is an odd duck. See: Monster Hunter Tri.

1. It is aimed for the casual crowd as well as the hardcore, and the play itself guide-thing is for the those who have never played this to have some sort of help on how to actually play this and how to finish it. Its a title foe everyone as any other Mario title out there.

2. So what, the game still looks good, and more than likely, no one is really expecting realistic graphics or whatever you want.

3. Because it already used too much of the Wii's processing power to add more players, everyone already knows this since E3.

Alternatively,

1. Fair enough.

2. Hasn't Nintendo shown time and time again that the DS and its games sell well? What does it matter where the game started?

3. Do you make games? Did you make this game? 'cause I think Miyamoto would know more about what is and isn't possible in this situation.

Clearly you aren't going to be pissing your money away on this game, but why do you care so much what we do with ours? It's awfully kind of you to care so much about where others put there money, but honestly, stop. It's kind of a annoying. Like that mosquito I flattened earlier this morning.

I still think that what Shiggy said is probably the truth, mostly because if they really were just being lazy, they could have just blown the question off, as per usual:

Journalist: Why isn't this game online?
Nintendo rep: We just didn't feel it was the right fit.

They could have easily made that statement, and it would have sounded a lot less outlandish. If they could have brushed it off that easily, i find it hard to believe they would make up a lie that basically deprecates their own system instead of their typical means of question denial.

It has nothing to do with realism, this game doesn't look good. not even by Wii standards.

and considering that there is no reason it shouldn't be playable online.

This game would only be worthwhile as a $15-20 downloadable title. If Nintendo knew what they were doing they would have done that and used it as a selling point to get the casual audience online.

I want to buy a Wii just to play this game. But I don't have any friends who will come all the way out to my house. I already bought a cheap used copy of Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario, so I'm nearly ready. I sure wish it was online though. NSMBW reminds me of Left for Dead where you can help your friends or shoot them in the face.
