Splinter Cell Conviction Collector's Edition sneaks into Australian retailer site
Australians with a burnin' love for Sam Fisher will be glad to hear that Splinter Cell Conviction has a Collector's Edition with bonus content coming next February when the game ships in their country. According to the product's listing on JB HiFi, $119 AUD ($104.42 USD) nets you a "Sam Fisher figurine" and "other exclusive content."
Though GameStop Australia doesn't have the listing and picture you see above, it does share the same pre-order bonus detailed by JB HiFi. For plunking down your dollars early, you'll receive extras ranging from a "scratch card to unlock unique in-game content" to a download code for Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Both Australian listings also say the Chaos Theory download will come from "Xbox Live Arcade," though that could simply be poor phrasing for the "Games on Demand" offering.
We contacted Ubisoft Montreal who told us the company has "no official announcement" for North America at this time (our question about Chaos Theory was unanswered as of publishing). We'll assuredly find out more soon, as the game's February 2010 release date isn't so far away.

The making of DVD bonus must be amazing to merit being mentioned twice...
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Oct 1st 2009 4:04PM
The bonus so nice, they packed it twice!
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 1st 2009 3:30PM
it'll probably be a really shitty figure like the altair that came with AC1
David @ Oct 1st 2009 3:36PM
Yes, my child.
Ben @ Oct 1st 2009 3:30PM
Anyone notice that Making of DVD is listed twice?
WREturns (Looking for a graphic designer) @ Oct 1st 2009 3:44PM
It's the "Making of DVD" and the "Making of the Making of DVD".
Gamer4Life @ Oct 1st 2009 3:31PM
An extra game for download and some extra in game content, all and all not a bad collectors edition, though I'm still on the fence on weather or not to buy SC: Conviction at all.
Gamer4Life @ Oct 1st 2009 3:41PM
Damn it, it didn't reply to RKN.
AoE @ Oct 1st 2009 4:29PM
If you own a 360 or a PC capable of playing it, why on earth would you be wary of Conviction?! There's only been one questionable entry in the entire franchise, and even that was pretty good compared to most other games out at the time... I dunno maybe I am just a fanboy, but I cannot find the angle that leads you to question whether Conviction's gonna be an excellent game or not... please explain?
Gamer4Life @ Oct 1st 2009 6:56PM
@AoE I dislike pro-US propaganda.
RKN @ Oct 1st 2009 3:36PM
Will the PC version get the collector's edition? So many times with multiplatform games, the PC misses out on the collector's editions whereas the console versions get them. Is it because of high piracy rates that they don't even want to bother?
Gamer4Life @ Oct 1st 2009 3:40PM
It seems like kind of a stupid idea not to release collector's editions of multi-platform games on PC cause it might actually get people to pay for a PC game. I'll still stick to consoles but there still are people who cling to the platform (and aren't software pirates).
RKN @ Oct 1st 2009 3:54PM
You make a good point, despite you having great disdain for PC gaming, sorry we're such crazy people for playing on the same system we work on too! : )
RKN @ Oct 1st 2009 4:05PM
I haven't beat Mass Effect yet, but have really enjoyed that game and wish the PC got the Collector's Edition the 360 version got. In fact, even the fucking Platinum Hits version for the 360 has the extra disc with developer interviews, artwork, etc. whereas the PC got squat. And Bioware has long been a PC developer.
Call of Duty 2 and 4 on the PC got Collector's Editions and get Modern Warfare 2 for the PC isn't getting any of the editions the consoles are getting. I'm just curious if it is because of high piracy rates where they don't want to waste their time? It really sucks and hurts.
Cj @ Oct 1st 2009 3:36PM
Chaos theory coming to G.O.D wont make sense since they stopped with XBOX 1 games. It must be being remade. Maybe the multiplayer portion.
gobo @ Oct 1st 2009 3:41PM
Chaos Theory has been an Xbox Original for a long time.
Cj @ Oct 1st 2009 5:59PM
They stopped bringing anymore to G.O.D unless Chaos is that one last game they were gonna ad.
gobo @ Oct 1st 2009 6:24PM

JoeStillLife @ Oct 1st 2009 3:39PM
pretty decent collector's edition. but the price seems a bit high to me.
gobo @ Oct 1st 2009 3:48PM
Assuming you don't live in Australia, games there are usually $20-30 higher than in the states and about €10 higher than in the UK.
JoeStillLife @ Oct 1st 2009 3:50PM
that blows.
Aus_JD @ Oct 2nd 2009 12:54AM
It sure does Joe. I work for a small retailer, GamesWarehouse, and there's very little justification for the cost increases.
Small, affluent markets, are generaly the ones seen as all cream (high demand + high incomes + small market = high margin per item).
The retailer doesn't pocket this margin either. The publisher keeps it all.
For example MW2 is sold to most retailers at $89.96 AUD(GST inc). Even the big brick and mortar stores pay around the same ammount (difference being most purchase their stock on consignment). The RRP is $119.95 AUD.
If you see this game for sale in Aus at JB, EB, K-Mart, BigW, Hardley Normal, Dick Smith or Game for $90 then I implore you to purchase it from them. They will make no money from that purchase. They only make money if you proceed to buy things not on special.
Oh, we also have the Splinter Cell Conviction Collector's Edition CE for sale.
Snowblind @ Oct 1st 2009 3:53PM
How expensive is this compared to normal games in Australia?
I'm honestly getting very tired of these "collectors editions" that do nothing but include a cheap artbook, a short making of DVD and a bunch of exclusive content just to make us fork over extra money.
AoE @ Oct 1st 2009 4:33PM
Well.... here's a bit of advice. I know it's shocking and illogical, but please bear with me: If you don't like collector's editions, don't buy them.
Snowblind @ Oct 1st 2009 5:08PM
Good idea. But then I miss out on content that should have been in the game to begin with, which is my only issue with them. Giving out extra pieces of tat is fine, but they shouldn't limit the game for those that don't want to pay extra.
NeoMahi @ Oct 1st 2009 3:56PM
I don't see an "Only On Xbox 360" stamped on the 360 white stripe. Looks promising. Maybe after a year, the PlayStation 3 will see it. Guess I'll wait it out. Looks like an awesome game!
RKN @ Oct 1st 2009 3:58PM
It happened with Bioshock, first it had the "Only on 360" sticker, and later copies had the "Only on 360 and Windows" sticker and the PS3 still got it eventually. Platform exclusivity does suck, you wish your platform had all the games and content!
Snowblind @ Oct 1st 2009 4:00PM
I believe that's because of the PC version.
The developers have said there's simply no PS3 version out of loyalty, they think games like this should just stay exclusive.. But yeah, we'll see how long that sticks.
BigD145 @ Oct 1st 2009 3:55PM
What madness is this? I thought Australia banned violent games.
Candlejack @ Oct 1st 2009 3:59PM
Chaos Theory alone justifies an extra $50, even without the other bonuses. Hell, I'd pay $100 for Chaos Theory if it still had the playerbase it had for the years after release.
GOTY, ALL FUCKING YEARS

When did Brett Favre get his own game?

Kind of interested in this.
Wonder if we'll see it in america
Militant07 @ Oct 1st 2009 4:32PM
i expected action figure or something cool from that huge box...
i think ill go for standerd since original xbox is reigon locked
Viol8tor Mode @ Oct 1st 2009 4:39PM
"Download Chaos Theory from XBOX live Arcade""
I don't understand this marketing move.
You would assume that Limited/Collectors editions of games are aimed towards the Hard Core/Dedicated fans of the franchise.
The same Dedicated fans who, i imagine, HAVE previous games of the franchise.
So why give them another copy of a game they most likely already bought??? I already have Chaos theory on Gamecube and Xbox.
Brad4815 @ Oct 1st 2009 5:48PM
I see what you're saying, but besides the rest of the cool stuff, I'd like the CT download code.
I do have all of the games (even have both versions of DA, on 360 and PS2).
I never played the older Splinter Cells on Xbox, I had them on Gamecube and PS2. So I wouldn't mind a free download of CT, and get to play on Live with it.
bearxor @ Oct 1st 2009 6:28PM
Splinter Cell Conviction: -$60
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory XBLA Download: -$15
Not buying useless collectors edition with a cheap figurine in a box that takes up WAY TOO MUCH space on my shelf: +$25.
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Oct 1st 2009 6:33PM
I usually love this stuff but Ubisoft is horrible when it comes to collectable items.
Aus_JD @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:02AM
Just order it from AUS. Many stores won't ship CE and specials OS as we get so few, we're reluctant to part with the ones we do get before Aussie gamers have a chance to buy it. Of course if it doesn't sell fast I reckon most stores would be happy to sell OS. (But by then would you be happy to buy?)
