Fighter flips over his character rating in EA Sports MMA
What happens when you put professional mixed martial arts fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller in a room with a bunch of EA Sports devs who are working on an MMA game, then reveal to Mr. Mayhem that his virtual representation's stats are pretty terrible? Hilarity ensues. Unless you're Rob Hydar, lead developer on the title. In that case, replace "hilarity" with "pure, unadulterated terror."
Watch the video after the jump to witness the proceedings unfold in a very NSFW manner. We realize that not everyone will enjoy the violence depicted in the clip -- but we think we can all rally behind that awesome ball pit/conference table.

too bad the game will suck
Colonel Craphead @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:35PM
What makes you say that?
NoughtSoClever @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:49PM
Yeah. I think we ALL will agree that EA sucks. Just look at their list of SUCKY games.
Battlefield series,
Burnout series,
Need for Speed series,
Command and Conquer series,
Dead Space,
Mirror's Edge,
The Sims
Not a single decent game in the bunch. AMIRITE?
NoughtSoClever @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:51PM
and just in case...
< /sarcasm >
Naota @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:11PM
These were originally developed by different guys
Burnout series, Acclaim: Picked up by EA after Acclaim fell
Command and Conquer series, Westwood: Picked up by EA after Westwood fell
The Sims, developed by Maxis Published by EA only recently taken over by EA for development
Not to say that EA doesn't make some good games or anything, but if you're going to put up a list, at least get the list right.
Bobby Kotick @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:52PM

Too bad you suck.
|MaguS| @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:22PM
Westwood wasn't independent of EA since 1998, any game released since then is an EA game. Yes Westwood created Red Alert 2 but they were EA then.
Same goes for Maxis, The Sims were created under Maxis but they were owned by EA at the time.
Its the same situation with Naughty Dog and Sony, Naughty Dog use to be independent, Sony acquired them and let them keep the name. They are still a Sony owned studio but go by their own name.
Never understood the EA hate, Yeah they screwed up alot in the past but they also put out a lot of quality titles in the last 10 years.
deadpool @ Oct 2nd 2009 9:44PM
and battlefield is made by dice
t_m @ Oct 3rd 2009 1:48AM
EA is a publisher... that pretty much guarantees most of their stuff is developed by different guys.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 3rd 2009 12:19PM
@naota He did get the list right, EA is a publisher, that's what they do. They publish games developed by other people.
Chilly P @ Oct 4th 2009 10:01AM
EA also published Left 4 Dead (but EA doesn't own Valve, so L4D2 coming out so soon has nothing to do with EA) and the upcoming Brutal Legend. And the Rock Band series. But, yes, they're a publisher, not a developer, so the studio in question is Tiburon, who makes Madden, NCAA Football, and Tiger Woods. Don't be hatin' on Tiger Woods.
p.s. Rob Hydar is a pirate
Tyrannius @ Oct 5th 2009 1:52PM
ok then, the game will suck because Tiburon's games are terrible.
Dopple Boppler @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:19PM
I really want to go to Chuck E. Cheese now
VaultBoy @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:00PM
Isn't this fighter on that show Bully Beatdown?
knuckles_006 @ Oct 2nd 2009 11:14PM
yes he is, and I want to see him beat up a bully, after he runs off his mouth after all these episodes.
Gopheur @ Oct 2nd 2009 11:20PM
Yes.
Vidikron @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:19PM
That is one sweet conference room table.
joshua.nash @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:47PM
yes it is, i wish my job had one of those in the office
[ArchiGamer] [Soon to be a major religion] @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:20PM
I'm confused as to why there is a ball pit in the center of the conference table.
Other than that, lol.
Vidikron @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:24PM
I want to know why more conference tables aren't like that.
uncle jesse @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:30PM
Simple - so that no one has to pay for daycare.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:38PM
If this game does really well, that ball pit will be filled with strippers. It's a usual production tactic these days to really get the potential out of developers.
Chad @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:21PM
It has sparked serious discussion about including one where I work - an ad agency. YES!
Ryan P. @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:21PM
I want that conference table.
LightSpecter @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:44PM
That was rather hilarious.
Also, They have a ball pit. Awesome.
keroro645 @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:24PM
Ball pit!
Old Professor Zertoss @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:24PM
Man, our conference table is just 3 regular tables pushed together. Our conference room doesn't have the space to fit one of those. :(
Cancerous @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:27PM
I still think that was real. I don't buy that just joking bullhonkey.
VaultBoy @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:31PM
If he was really joking he had me fooled. I think he was serious and caught himself when he remembered he was on camera. I hope they make a good game though. THQ may have UFC but they are not the only fighting league on the block. I hope this drives some serious competition and makes the production teams push for the best possible quality in both franchises.
Durden @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:33PM
Ditto.
nutman @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:41PM
The entire thing was scripted dude. This is a fairly old video and the details behind it were out a long time ago on MMA sites.
BananaBoat @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:55PM
All of these things are fake. It really takes the whimsy out when you realize it, but then you start to think of them more like a college humor skit, and it becomes alright again.
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:02PM
Yeah, it's clearly fake. Jason Barnes gives a high five or whatever after wards, so he was in on it. I doubt he would have done that if it wasn't planned and several people in the room seemed to be aware of it.
Mystic @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:12PM
It was a PRACTICAL JOKE you morons!!!
Reinard @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:27PM
In before "they stole the ball pit idea from xkcd."
Oh, hell, who am I kidding. They did.
MRLN @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:40PM
+1 for merely mentioning that godly webcomic.
B3astofthe3ast @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:28PM
I want a ball pit NOW.
Caveman @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:28PM
Got to love how the use the Xbox 360 to demo the game.
Can't wait to talk to Jason Ellis about this on his show.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:35PM
Though if you look there is a PS3 running in the background on the shelf.
LegendaryRedass @ Oct 2nd 2009 6:09PM
Those days are over guy. Ps3 finally got some hair on it's ass. Both are excellent consoles, and all benefit, either directly or indirectly, from both being on the market.
Caveman @ Oct 2nd 2009 10:25PM
Sitting their unused like most PS3s.
el serpiente @ Oct 3rd 2009 12:50AM
Cavetard sez whuut?
ZetoSanNi @ Oct 3rd 2009 9:54PM
In other news:
I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO....
*slowly walks away*
scud @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:30PM
Yep our ballpit really is that awesome. Even better is to sit in it during an entire meeting. It could be the most boring meeting in the world and being in the ball pit during it makes that meeting better than any other.
Kevin949 @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:31PM
nice to see where the money they milk from their userbase is going.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:32PM
Viral marketing? Seemed scripted, like the laughing seemed incredibly fake.
Carrie @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:39PM
Yeah, the laughing at the end seemed really fake to me. I wouldn't be laughing like that after that crap.
VaultBoy @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:33PM
Most multiplatform titles are developed on the 360 and ported over from that platform. It is just how things are done.
Rawg @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:42PM
This would of been funnier if in the first 15-20seconds you couldn't tell it was staged by the 2 dickheads that leave the room commenting on whats about to happen.
Otherwise highly amusing.
