Final Fantasy XIV beta will be PC-only
For those of you holding fast to the hope that you'll get your hands on Square Enix's next MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, before the game's eventual release, it appears as though you'll need to get your hands on a Windows PC first. In a recent interview with Game Watch, FFXIV director Hiromichi Tanaka said the game's beta release will be on PC only.
Starting with a closed population of 10,000 people and eventually opening up to the public, the beta could be running at full capacity by as early as Summer 2010, according to Tanaka. Hopefully, by that point we'll be playing Final Fantasy XIII -- in English -- and no longer cracking jokes about FFXIV releasing before XIII ... Hopefully.

Doesn't bother me.
Now, FLAME!
RKN @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:07PM
Can't help but wish that Final Fantasy 13 would come to the PC. I suppose the PC ports of FF7 and FF8 were sales failures, PC gamers don't want JRPGs on their platform?
jynxycat @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:16PM
Well FFVII came out about a year later on PC. I'm assuming fans already had the game by then.
FFVIII is well... FFVIII. That's already a mixed bag.
gmoya90 @ Oct 2nd 2009 5:17PM
heck are you serious dude what about everyone from FFXI? most of them are going to exchange game for that matter or have both accounts just like me am a veteran on FFXI and am a fan but i met alot people who are not fans of FF or just herd of FF threw FFXI. but bottom line FFXI players are gonna jump in to FFXIV and the population is huge.
am one of them i be switching after i finished shantotto expention pack witch will be released next month.
Einhanderkiller @ Oct 2nd 2009 7:24PM
Well, Square Enix did release The Last Remnant on PC. I think that one did okay in sales.
jynxycat @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:14PM
I'm going to play it on PC anyway, so huray?
Still seems odd that they aren't going to test the PS3 set-up at all until the full on release.
JayVe @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:35PM
Do all the beta testing on the PC. When the code is final, lock it down and burn the Blurayz. Sounds like a good plan to me and better than dealing with constant, slow PS3 downloads during the beta.
Vidikron @ Oct 2nd 2009 4:34PM
I get 1-2 MB/sec on all my PS3 downloads.

No matter to me...as I would HOPE they will have Keyboard/mouse support on the PS3 version anyways
Avatar @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:24PM
If you're using a keyboard/mouse to play any game, why not just get a computer? I've never had a disk read error, overheating problems, or anything like that, plus the visuals are better. That, and, you know, EVERY game has keyboard/mouse support :P.

Dude my PC plays Crysis with ease....lol...
I'm just saying I would like to use the PS3 to play with as I know MORE people that will get it on that...
RKN @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:36PM
Well Chris, Final Fantasy 11 is cross-playable with the PC, PS2 and Xbox 360 all able to play with each other.
I am sure the same will apply to this game so you can play this on a PC and still play with your friends with a PS3. : )
alamos @ Oct 2nd 2009 2:03PM
Trust me, if it's anything like FFXI, you need a keyboard for one thing: Typing. The gameplay itself is much more suited to a controller.
d889 @ Oct 2nd 2009 2:49PM
FFXI lets you use a keyboard on both the ps3 and 360 ... so there shouldnt be a reason for 14 not to.
nriveraexpress @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:18PM
kinda lame its prob gonna come out late for playstation just like 11, thank god i have Aion

Its interesting to see how Final Fantasy 11 is far more popular on the PC than the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions and yet the PC has seen no more of the single-player Final Fantasy games.
Personally, I don't care for MMORGS at all, never played one, happy with single-player games so I must be in the minority hoping more FF games will come to the PC. Then again, speaking as a fanboy, I'd like all games to come to the PC or at least have an emulator for them. : )
jynxycat @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:26PM
FFXI is probably more popular on ps2 in japan.
In the states, how is it more surprising an MMO is more popular on PC than a console? :P
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:29PM
The graphics look very impressive but I don't know what to say about the character desing.
While I think it is great we get more options than the generic anime hero with spiky hair and cat girls It looks like they took some characters from some WRPG and dressed all of them with clothes 2 sizes smaller of what they should wear.
Seriosuly it is like all of them are wearing a girdle.
freaparn @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:50PM
Hrm... not the little munchkin things, they're pretty portly. Sort of like a hobbit with a half-melted mannequin's head.
alamos @ Oct 2nd 2009 2:05PM
You must not know about one of the titles in FFXI... "Looks Sublime in a Subligar." It's nice to see that they even poke fun at design choices sometimes.
Marco le Polo @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:46PM
Sweet, I too am going to be playing it on PC only as well. Of course I do plan on playing this when it gets released on PS3 and PC. Options are always nice.
alamos @ Oct 2nd 2009 2:07PM
Indeed. My platform of choice for FFXI is the PC, but there are times when I can't play it on the PC, where the 360 version becomes ideal. I hope we're still able to play on any system using any account.
Marco le Polo @ Oct 2nd 2009 2:14PM
Oh yea seriously. I have a couple friends that play FFXI on PC and some on PS2. Is this going to be on 360 as well? So there'd be the choice of PS3, 360, and PC?
lynkd34d @ Oct 2nd 2009 1:51PM
I better be able to jump this time damnit!
