Valve is offering a number of enticing pre-order offers for their upcoming zombicidal action title, Left 4 Dead 2. For the impatient among us, dropping a reservation on the game garners early access to the demo (which is set to drop October 27). For the thrifty among us, pre-ordering the game through Steam (or other participating digital distributors), knocks 10 percent off the total price of the game.
However, for the truly patriotic among us, Valve is offering a singularly thrilling bonus: An in-game "American baseball bat." We've contacted Valve to find out exactly what this means -- is pre-ordering the game really the only way to get our hands on this implement of the Great American Pastime? Or is it just a special "American" skin for the bat, which was previously confirmed to be one of the title's brand new melee weapons? We hope it's the latter, if only so we can sing "Courtesy of the Red, White And Blue" during our undead massacres.

My plan is to setup a .wav file that I can play of Brian singing the "peanut butter jelly time" song to Peter in Family Guy while I run around smacking zombie heads in my the bat.

Psst. Steam's deal is exactly the same. You get all three bonuses for pre-ordering.

I have to say I was going to get the original L4D on steam, but it was $20 cheaper on sale at the local store. So I go it there. With the extra $20, I can buy my own REAL anti-zombie bat and keep it by the desk while I play.

On release! Steam was NOT half price, it was $49.95, stop price was $29.95. You can do the math. I bought it the first day it came out, not on any DLC sale.

Good pre-order bonus. I love how valve offers games cheaper for pre-orders. I feel like pre-orders should be cheaper anyways because you're paying for it without even playing a demo and before reviews are out. Kind of a leap of faith (Though how could you not have faith in vavle?)

I think we should all have a little more faith in Vavle

For a second there, I had gotten my hopes up that they were including a better version of the Arkham Asylum CE Batarang.

Crappy compared to what? Most other games preorder bonuses are usually either some lame code for DLC, a demo, or nothing at all. You're getting a demo, DLC and $5 off. Sounds good to me.

50%? Sorry, but L4D is still 45 new at my gamestop, and 40 used.

whaaa? l4d is 30 on steam right now, and its been significantly lower in the past.
if you are talking about the 360 version, *snicker* you already decided you aren't going to save money. no, you are going to pay extra for the same game/content.
i dunno if they sell pc games at gamestop or not.

Whaaa? This may be true for L4D, but the vast majority of games released on the 360 and steam quickly get much, much cheaper on the 360. Fallout 3, for instance, is still full price on steam and has only been less than that for one little weekend, whereas there have been about a gajillion deals on the 360 to get it to a significantly lower price.
My biggest gripe with steam is that games stay full price for way, way too long whereas 360 games constantly have absurd deals as the retailers battle with each other.

Steam lowered the price on L4D so many times that I lost count. I bought it for 20$ new just after christmas on Steam. I fully expect them to repeat this this year again.

Are you kidding me? you're praising what here? getting a demo 1 week early than the rest of the world? Getting 5$off when it will go on sale for 50$ after christmas again? Getting what, a baseball bat? Really, is that suppose to be ground breaking here ? i'd rather have an extra level or other form of DLC that do ADD to the game than just a baseball bat with a special skin on it.
I'm not a Valve hater. I own all of their games. But this is far from being a good pre-order bonus. Anyway L4D 2 is an expension for L4D but sold to you at a full game price. I'll wait for the 50% rebate after christmas. It's not like there won't be better games to play in the meantime.

You didn't answer my questions, what is this preorder bonus stuff crappy compared too? Usually a preorder gets one of those things, Valve is giving you 3 things. I don't do preorders because I've never seen something worth doing one for.

They talked about the Baseball bat earlier... it's only available in game if either you pre-ordered the game or are playing with someone who pre-ordered the game. It's semi-viral, in a way.
