PS3 outsells Wii in Japan for September; thanks Slim!

Everyone knew it was going to have huge numbers this month but question is will those numbers still remain high after its initial release.

I usually call bullshit on these types of post. People are always saying Joystiq is bias.

That being said though, that statement does seem to indicate that the PS3 slims launch was something other than "successful". I don't get the logic behind that one either. I'm wondering are they indicating that it wasn't a success or it could have been more of a success? I really don't see what Sony did wrong as far as the Slim launch Worldwide. Sales are up and that sounds like a success to me.

You might have a point on this one unless I'm interpreting things wrong. If so then my apologies, I stand corrected.

Surely it must have been sarcasm. "What you might call successful." Didn't they break all of their PS3 sales records with the launch of the slim? I doubt anyone here at joystiq would make such a blindly biased comment otherwise.

Is 300k units in a month really successful? I mean when you look at the horrible numbers they've put up, sure, but the Wii has doing 300-500k or better every month since it came out. THey've fallen significantly week over week since the price drop too, so it's safe to say that it won't be long before it's back down to the 6-10k per week level it's hovered at from the get go.

I'm still trying to figure out why people report Japanese game sales numbers anymore. Japan is completely insignificant in gaming sales/trends/development these days.

Should do the same in America, too. The only thing that would work in the Wii's favor is that September NPD is five weeks (i think), which would give them a bit of time to sell at the lower price.

Up to this point in September, though, Wii's actually last place out of the three.

There's TONS of awesome games to be played on both systems.
Seriously, all Nintendo haters need to open their eyes or just shut their mouth and sink into their X360 or PS3 elitist.

Just in the pas few weeks games like SCRIBBLENAUTS, MARIO & LUIGI BOWSER'S INSIDE STORY, HARVEST MOON FRANTIC FARMING, PROFESSOR LAYTON AND THE DIABOLICAL BOX and KINGDOM HEART were released on the DS.

On the Wii there's A BOB AND HIS BLOB coming soon. DEAD SPACE EXTRACTION just came out and so did TMNT SMASH-UP. There's NEW SUPER MARIO BROS., SUPER MARIO GALAXY, METROID M and countless others coming out soon.

There's more to video games then 1080p graphic and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio.
Remember that games are meant to be FUN!!!!

The Wii will still outsell everything else this Xmas season. I don't know a single person or family that owns a PS3 nor do I know anyone that plans to get one. I do know two families that are buing Wii for Xmas becuase they asked me about. I know this is simply anecdotal evidence, but ask yourself how many people you know that plan to buy a PS3? Oh well. I bought a used xbox 360 this week simply because I want to play Halo and some other driving games that I can't get for Wii. The PS3 is still way too costly.

So I was at worst buy and my girl noticed some kid heading to the checkout line with an 360 elite. She was all down on him because he didn't get the memo( all of her co-workers 360's RRod'd and now they're all buying $299 ps3's).
Then I reminded her what it feels like when your dad buys you a bad ass gift and you're all excited leaving the store but don't want to act like you are and blow your cool. I was like remember how awesome it felt when your dad bought you something you really wanted? And she was all like no, I don't have any memory of him ever doing anything like that for me. So I tried to bully her into agreeing with me by saying surely he MUST have bought her something.
Her sad face quickly told me to stfu so we bought The Kingdom on blu ray for ten dollars because she's been wanting to see it for like ever and I keep vetoing it. She was like it's ten dollars! I was like ten dollars on crap is still paying ten dollars for crap(this was before the kid and subsequent sad facery). As a last resort I asked to imdb it on her phone and dammit imdb gave it like 7.2. Out of 18000 votes! Well crap after sad face and IMDB we had to buy it. Plus she's got a slight girl crush on Jennifer Garner after alias. But I'm like Jennifer Garner sucks and all she did worth a damn was alias. So we watch the movie and strong powerful Jennifer Garner role has to be all sensitive and cry all over the place in the movie because only girl fbi agents cry. So I asked my girl what she thought of the movie and she gave it a 5.6. True story.

Dont want to sound stupid or anything but any word on that white ps3 with the Final Fantasy bundle hitting the states?

I agree that the PS3 is more flexible and has a bigger hard drive and wireless and etc....
However, these are gaming systems and I use them for playing games. I don't care about bigger hard-drives and wireless. I don't even care that the use xbox 360 arcade I bought does not have a hard drive.

The larger point is that most of the people I know right now in my life have kids and they are buying Wiis. Like I said, my evidence is anecdotal, but I suspect the vast majority of video game console sales are made/directed by parents, and their kids want Wii. I know a lot of kids because I have kids of my own. I do know one 11 year kid that saved up his money for Xmas and bought an xbox 360 arcade, but that is because it was the only system that was $199.

Another thing, prices do matter. Wii and xbox are sitting good right now at $199. No offense playstation and I think the playstation 2 is a great system, my dad has one and we play whenever I visit. Call me a troll or whatever, but I have been a gamer since the Atari 2600 days. After the Atari, I became a PC gamer for over 20 years. I'm not a hardcore console gamer, but I would call myself a PC gamer who bought a Wii because it offerred something different. Now I have gotten into the console scene again and am excited about what they have to offer.
