Dragon Age: Origins character creator arrives Oct. 13 for PC players
BioWare has announced that it will make the Dragon Age: Origins character creator available for PC users starting October 13, giving prospective players the chance to roll their heroes a couple of weeks before the game hits US shelves on November 3 (November 6 for Europe).
The developer will also be opening the virtual doors to its new Dragon Age: Origins community site on the same day the character creator goes live. The creator software will be able to upload character data to the site for some yet-to-be-disclosed purposes, one of which we can only guess is showing off your mad skillz, yo. The only confirmed purpose: Using the character as your community site avatar. (So you can show off your sick style, yo.)

I love BioWare...
RKN @ Oct 3rd 2009 2:34AM
Pretty cool, I've only heard of Bioware up to Mass Effect whereas my brother is an RPG nut and has loved Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights from them.
They started on the PC yet didn't release a collector's edition of ME for the PC, hell, they even gave the 360 Platinum Hits version the extras from the Collector's Edition, the extra disc with developer's interview, artwork, etc. I'm a big fan of ME and wanted that disc for the PC. Hope they release a collector's edition of ME2 for the PC.
Can't wait for this and ME2!!!

Hey, Bioware, guess what? Ill trade you this game, plus the SW TOR MMO for an actual KoToR 3.
And I dont wanna hear that TOR is KoToR 3.
...That said Im still picking up the 360 verison of this because you are my crack Bioware. You are my crack and I am your whore.
Be gentle.
Tom Kalinske, CEO. @ Oct 3rd 2009 2:41AM
Yes, most people would trade TOR for Kotor III. Apparantly it was planned in 2005 but was cancelled due to 'financial difficulties'.
finnith @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:00AM
Why don't we wait till we actually see TOR up and running before we write it off? It is BioWare, after all, they can do no wrong.
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:06AM
Because no MMO can give you the type of feeling of awesomeness that a single player RPG can. The great thing about single player rpgs (kotor included) is the feeling you get of being super awesome savior ( or enslaver) of the universe. However, if there are 15,000 other super awesome saviors in your world, it pretty much kills the feeling of it.
I enjoy my mmos, I used to play WoW, D2, and I play Guild Wars now, but single player RPGs are something special. Even if TOR is a good game, it wont replace Kotor in my mind.
Omega2k3 @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:26AM
Why don't you go watch a couple videos about their storyline system. It incorporates stories that feel unique to yourself, even if multiple people are involved. For example, dialogue trees can involve multiple people, and the same mission can have multiple objectives based on the character. It seems to have a single player feel in an MMO environment.
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:34AM
ive seen plenty of videos of their storyline system. My point isnt being made clear apparently. I dont know how else to describe the fact that in a single player RPG you are the "savior of the universe who is uber powerful near the end of the storyline." If everyone else in the game is also the "savior of the universe who is uber powerful at the end of the storyline." It seriously ruins the feeling for me.
Also, in single player RPGs, you get better gear just by playing the game. You dont have to "grind" or "farm" for weeks or even months on end to get good gear. You simply have to play the game. Bioware is going to have to either go the GW route and balance everything out (which will ruin the feeling of uberness), or find a brand new way to do the gear system that has never been done before.
Im not saying that TOR wont be fun, but no matter what way you slice it, it will not and never will be a true KotoR 3.

I feel this same way. Lets say we meet Reven, or some such character in-game. He gives us some special quests and we become his secret lackey working underground....
You need a HUUUUUGGGGEEE suspension of disbelief to rp around the fact that every character in the universe is Reven's secret lackey...
Or more simply, lets say at the end of the game you destroy the Super Sith Weapon-Ship called the Kill Ball in some epic space-raid... Well... they must have mass-produced this planet-sized-ship or really lost their ability to rebuild things by the time they made the Death Star because EVERYONE in the game is ALSO the famed pilot who destroyed it...
I know there is a line, I know rping in MMOs is lame, and I know its a game.... its just odd to think around. Something is lost in translation....
Rocky @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:40PM
If the ship destruction scenario you laid out was instanced.... there's no plot hole. You act like 5 million other people didn't buy KOTOR and do the same things you did. The only difference between that and an MMO is you see them running around. If you do your storyline advancing in instances, it's the same thing.
LaughingTarget @ Oct 3rd 2009 9:09PM
Thousands of other did the same thing, huh? Apparently, hearing about other players doing it on message boards doesn't stop you from suspending that disbelief. Certainly doesn't stop you when you realize that the guy in Save Slot 2 just destroyed the very universe that was saved by the chick in Save Slot 1.
Further, if I really want to nitpick the Hell out of it, KOTOR is pretty hard to believe at all. We have a game where you visit mega cities with populations that exceed one trillion, yet all you manage to see are a grand total of 8 people, who apparently have nothing better to do than stand around in the exact same place all the time and say the exact same things, over, and over, and over again.
What's worse, even when there are only 8 guys that you ever see, 7 of them are apparently homeless because there is only 1 house in the entire area. The other 7 can't get anywhere because the Ebon Hawk is hogging the one and only docking bay on the entire planet and they can't go anywhere else. Ever try to find a way to get to any other parts of the planet on foot? Guess what, you can't. An entire mega-city and you've managed to find the one and only place that is completely segregated from the rest of it.
Further, ever walk into one of those homes? Are you trying to tell me that a culture that has managed to perfect interstellar travel can't figure out how to install indoor plumbing? Have you ever seen a single bathroom in KOTOR? How about a kitchen? Do you intend me to believe that the citizens of advanced planets like Coruscant have to hang their hind ends out of the window and send their waste plummeting miles to the dead surface below? Do you intend me to believe that, instead of eating, everyone just jumps into a bacta tank? The same goes with the Ebon Hawk, not a single galley or head in the entire ship, yet we're expected to believe people are capable of living on it in space for months at a time.
Seriously, the entire thing is unbelievable. Suspension of disbelief is what you make of it. If you can buy into a world where a 5 foot cliff can keep you from moving into the valley rendered off into the distance yet have a hard time believing that someone else did the same thing as you did, something is seriously messed up in your head.
If anything, SWTOR manages to fix one of the nagging disbelief problems by actually populating those huge cities with dynamic crowds, which are called other players. Otherwise, every single aspect of disbelief present in the single player version, including millions of other people having blown up the same space station or killing the same guy, is present in the MMO.
Clinton @ Oct 3rd 2009 10:23PM
i pretty much agree with what R was saying, but laughing you have a point, but if we go to that level of analysis then every game would sound retarded. but stuff like no bathrooms and such is stupid for an advanced society which can build space ships
Jose @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:03AM
I really hope they come out with a Benchmark in this game, or at least access to the developer consoles to be able to tune the damned thing. People don't understand PC gamers, and shout outs go to CoD4, all Valve games, Section 8, HAWX (for nothing else), and Far Cry 2 for built in benchmarks or access to dev consoles.
RKN @ Oct 3rd 2009 3:17AM
Agreed, built-in or separate benchmark tools and/or especially developer consoles are a wonderful thing!

This is actually a pretty nice idea. One thing I've always hated about starting a western RPG is that I've had to tinker around for like an hour with what kind of a character I'd create. They don't make it any easier by having you choose for example which god you pray to in addition to all the class and attribute choices.
CH3BURASHKA @ Oct 3rd 2009 5:58AM
Unlike Spore, I don't think there will be a great influx of horrific penis monsters created. Shame, though.
Charades @ Oct 3rd 2009 7:49AM
Just a ton of clowns that we all made in games like Oblivion.
Or a really stereotypical looking black guy with huge lips.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 3rd 2009 11:48AM
So it's like the spore creature creator I guess? That's a pretty cool idea.
RKN @ Oct 3rd 2009 12:41PM
Are these tools only for the PC version or also console versions?
