Tim Schafer lends some LOLs to Fallon on Late Night
100
That's it, folks -- the game industry has finally made it into the bigtime! With Brütal Legend's dark overlord Tim Schafer appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon leading up to the game's October 13 release (video found after the break), it's become clear to us that we've finally made it. What more could we ask than one of the game industry's greats appearing on a late night television show? Next thing we know, editors of Joystiq sister site Engadget will be appearing on Fallon and Halo will have its own soda! Yeah, right, like that will ever happen.

They do it that way because that's how the industry does trailers. It's just clips.
You have to remember that in most games the cutscenes aren't very long, and they usually give away key info. This means it's either going to be a SPOILER (which would just piss everyone off) or it's going to seem so out of context that it wouldn't make sense (and you'd have to use a SPOILER to explain it...so the loop remains).
I would like to see the gameplay spots become a little longer though...show the leadup to Eddie Riggs jumping mid-air and bringing the axe down on the demon druid...show us a longer clip of his movement and attacks in a chain instead of quick flashes where you can't tell if it was cool or not because you're fighting a seizure. That's what I'd like to see.

The thing is that movie clips are shown and they don't really spoil the movie, do they? I just would rather see a game shown off through good voice acting and animation in a 30 second clip from an early cut scene than something only us gamers would really understand as gameplay (or a certain type of gameplay).
I guess it's because I want games to be known for being able to tell a great story even by people who don't give a sh*t about them.

Sadly, they said they haven't planned a PC version. Dunno why Joystiq tagged this PC, and then forgets to tag everything that actually is for the PC.

I didn't realize Nigerians were still mad at the gaming industry. Now they've got their best English scholars spamming Joystiq.

I think this is the first time a games developer was on a late night talk show, ritght? So i suppose it's a big thing. But with the host being Jimmy Fallon, it's not as funny as I'd hoped and I was a bit underwhelmed. Oh well, at least Brutal Legend is known beyond the hard core now. Let's see if that actually does something when the game comes out.

Anyhoo, really loved the interview, except the Fallon, but I'll give him a year so he can get better with his show.

This would only be a big deal if Fallon was actually worth watching.
Of course I guess he's finally found a show that actually works for him since now he's supposed to look at the camera and laugh at his own jokes.

"we've finally made it"
Way to exaggerate something as minor as being featured on a TV show. At the rate things are going, ratings tumbling all over for the big national stations, practically any old bloke will be brought on for a few minutes on screen. That's not to diminish Schafer in any way.
But our blogger friend seems to be doing that overcompensating bullshit many in the gaming media always seem to unconsciously drift into. You know, where every mainstream appearance is a victory, looked over and analysed till kingdom come. What silly ideals, as if a namedrop here or there validates our hobby. We don't need validation; we don't need to make it. We're fine, Double fine even. This self hatred could be described as an inferiority complex, and it's embarrassing.

anyone who's even remotely interested in this game, i'd encourage you to buy it. tim schafer is a genius but it's unfortunate that his games are always overshadowed by bigger blockbusters with more marketing and universal appeal behind them. if you give any of his previous games a shot and suspend your belief that a good game is made by how much gore and shooting it features, and i think you'll find a truly humble, original, hilarious, and artistic way of making games that's slowly going extinct. i've no doubt this is going to be an amazing game. support tim schafer!

I find it really sad that this game is coming out on the exact same day as Uncharted 2. I'm probably buying them both the same day, but I'll still end up beating Uncharted 2 before playing Brutal Legend.

It also comes out the same day as the Fallout 3: GOTY Edition, a big release for anyone who held out this long (e.g. me).
It wasn't until the demo that I was absolutely convinced I needed to have Brutal Legend be a day one purchase as well.

"always"?
Double Fine has only done one game, and yeah it was overshadowed, partly because platformers are out of vogue (i.e. lack "universal appeal").
The rest of his games came from LucasArts and I don't think it's fair to say they were overshadowed.

Say what you want about Jimmy Fallon (I've never been a big fan myself), but on the rare occasion I've seen the show there's actually been some really good ideas; stuff like this and Mark-Paul Gosselaar staying in character as Zack Morris the whole time are awesome, and stuff you wouldn't see on any of the other late night talk shows.

If the new definition of "big-time" is Jimmy Fallon, I think I'll stick with the old one.

As unfunny as Jimmy Fallon is, this is the perfect show. He has shown plenty of video game support recently and he has the right audience.

I don't see why he is "fail". Sure sometimes he can be a little annoying but he usually seems legitemately excited over what he is currently doing on the show and the content on the show is usually at least decent.

Yeah, Fallon needs to just grow and get his style set so he can be super-comfortable and any writers he gets will be able to flow with hsi show and style.
Still not gonna watch for a while though :). I give him a year and then maybe I'll decide to spend some time watching Late Night again.

Finally made it? You do realize this is the Jimmy Fallon show, correct? Tim Schafer appearing on a low brow public access show would have more credibility than Jimmy Fallon. What a joke. I agree, Dhani Harrison on Conan was a bigger deal.

Jesus christ people, what is with the hate?!
Look, I'm not saying he's LOL, BEST THING EVAR, but the show isn't god awful.
If anything, the only gripe I have is that Tim Shafer got shoved behind all the other stuff. It made sense that Drew Barrymore came first, they're apparently friends and you always kick off the post first commercial break with either a TV or movie star...
But to say that some stupid ass world record website is more important than gaming? What a crock of shit.
Still, it was good to see an indie guy like Shafer on there. It's another step in the right direction.
But seriously guys, quit slamming someone just because every moment is an award winning piece of comedic quality genius. It's just a show.
