Capcom asks how you want RE5: Alternative Edition's extra content

Over at Capcom Unity, they're polling individuals on what they would like to see in a localized version of the recently revealed Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition. In Japan, the title is coming on a new disc to the retail space, but Capcom is still entertaining different delivery solutions for North America and Europe, namely digital distribution as DLC for the original game. Since Capcom's had success with the Versus add-on and recent digital wares such as SSF2THD and Marvel vs Capcom 2, it's willing to go that route if the demand is high enough. So Capcom put up a poll and, if you want your voice heard, we suggest you make with the clickings.

As for tangible, things-you-can-see-in-front-of-you-right-now news, we'd like to direct your attention to GAME Watch. The site's put up some screens from the new "Lost in Nightmares" mission that takes us back in time to the classic team's jaunt through the Spencer Mansion and, as you can see above, Jill's defense of her status as the Master of Unlocking.

why you like rebuying games for extra content and getting ripped off?

I haven't bought the standard RE5...so I'm hardly getting ripped off.

neither have I and it's because of fear that they would pull this kind of crap on existing players so why bother with the game at all. I'd pick it up now if I knew they'd actually support the original title but why bother if Capcaom doesn't have the decency to do so.

Not sure why Tom was down voted. I mean he's on his right of choosing buying the disc instead of DLC.

I already own RE5 so probably I would buy the DLC if it's really good.

i'm with Tom. never got the original RE5, so this would be cool on disc for me. i had a funny feeling a RE5 "Director's Cut" would come sooner or later.

didn't really see it coming with SFIV though.

So what you guys are saying is if Capcom starts releasing DLC and not re-releasing discs that you'd be more likely to pick it up the first time around. Am I correct?

360 and PS3 are only $299. Get a job or ask your parents to buy you one. You're missing out on some excellent games.

Why'd he get down voted? The Wii version of 4 was by FAR the best because of the controls. I think it's the last game I actually played on my Wii... XD

i don't, i already own RE5... BUT, if you could patch motion controls for the PS3 then i'll be glad to give it a second go

oh so Capcom has to ask its fans whether or not to release extra content digitally or on a disc.

Just put the DLC on XBLA/PSN and stop acting like fools Capcom, it's 2009 get with the program. Patch in the Motion Controls and put the DLC up for sale. While they're at it do the same for SFIV.

And go ahead and release a "Special Edition" with the DLC on the disc, go ahead and get the best of all worlds (and satisfy as many fans as possible at the same time).

Basically what courtney said is what I want to see.

Releasing it as DLC for people who already bought it then on disc for people who didn't with all the dlc intact is the best route to take.

This way everybody's happy and keeps to experience the new content with or without online (Since you can play versus on system link)

I voted for DLC. There's no way I'm rebuying this game, but I'd consider getting it as DLC.

It costs money to make both.

I'd only go for a retail set if it contains the legendary "half dualshock controller" for use along with the playstation motion controller.

is it that hard to just slap an analog stick onto the glowy orb controller?

that would be really uncomfortable... At least with the half dual shock, they're not making us spend yet another $20 on a nunchuck to go with the wand.

Imagine having to keep both your hands on the wand at all times if the analogue was on it too. It would look like the weirdest masturbation session ever.

Is it so hard to do both? So people who don't have the game can pick up a complete copy and those that do don't have to pay full price for what should be DLC?

Just like with music, I prefer the physical disc but won't pay a premium for it. If they could release it as a $10-$20 disc I'd be onboard, but I don't think that's the plan.

Maybe make it a $30 standalone disc, but a free download to those who already bought the game at full price?

That is exactly what CDProjekt did with The Witcher, when the Enhanced Edition came out a year later, they offered it as a free download to those that had the original. Very, very nice of them.

Didn't they also release a really, really, really nice collector's edition for Enhanced Edition? Wouldn't expect that from Capcom (and I don't think it'd really fit the game), but it would be a nice gesture :P

Having an extra mission would be fun, especially if we could fight some classic-type zombies, hahaha. Anyhoo, make it a DLC and you got a buyer. Don't do it like SFIV, that's just mean.

I wasn't going to buy it in disc form since I already own RE5. But if it was DLC and priced accordingly I would probably pick it up.

Without motion controls

As for disc or dlc? I don't care, probably won't buy it anyway without a control fix.....no, not goddamn motion controls either.

RE4Wii was the best version of the game AND the best use of the Wii & nunchuck combo. Ever. RE5 would undoubtedly be an improved experience with the use of the motion controller if it was implemented the same as RE4 was on the Wii.

"Motion controls" are almost the wrong words to use anyway, since the biggest improvement was due to the infrared pointing device, which is... a pointing device, not really what people think of when they say motion control. Though, the swipe motion to use your knife was the best, simplest, most intuitive use of the Wiimote I've seen in a decent action game too.

So no. You lose. YES motion controls. Plus, you don't have to use them... so, wtf.

Yeah. I'd like to see the resolution of the graphics for the PlayStation 3 upped to what the 360 is doing since we got screwed over last time. And a stable frame rate. I'd also like my save data from the original game carried over to the Alternative Edition. It was hard enough unlocking everything the first time around. In fact, why not just do the Alternative version with motion control as DLC since everyone already bought the game. The Alternative Version had better be $40 if its re-released. Also, the unlocking feature of Versus through DLC didn't make any sense. It was like the DLC was already on the Disc it was so small. You need to pack that disc with whatever you can like Uncharted 2 is doing and then give us the DLC. If you can't appease us in these ways, we won't buy.

resolution was the same between consoles. The biggest differences were in the TEXTURE resolution, particles, shadow detail, and volumetric fog...

...well, the game still looks badass on either system :P

How about both? Release it as DLC for RE5 and then release the full game on disc (giving the disc its own trophies and achievements would be cake, just like they did with Lost Planet Colonies).

Also would be similar to how Eidos handled the 360 version of Tomb Raider Anniversary - DLC for Legends and a full disc version.

I want mine medium rare.
