Epic Mickey confirmed by epic Game Informer cover
Considering the amount of concept art and leaked details we've heard concerning Disney Interactive Studios and Junction Point's upcoming collaboration, this might not come as a shock to you, but the cover of the next issue of Game Informer confirms the existence of Epic Mickey. Details are slim, but we now know that it'll be a Wii-exclusive action title and, based on the paintbrush grasped by the iconic rodent on the cover, we suspect it will incorporate the illustrative elements mentioned by an anonymous informant back in July.
Hopefully more details will surface when Game Informer's interview with Warren Spector goes live later today. For now, revel in the fact that the title is real -- and based on the art seen on the magazine's cover (the full version of which is posted after the jump), it might just deserve its "epic" designation.

too bad their limiting it to wii and its boundaries

Shit just got scary, I'm extremely freaked by the art. Reminds me of The Apprentice (or something), where Mickey swipes the Wizard's wand and creates a billion broomstick slaves, who drown the whole world (or something). I can't wait to see some actual gameplay.
Robert27 @ Oct 5th 2009 10:46PM
This game sounds EPIC!

Crap. I was excited up until I heard Wii.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 5th 2009 1:45PM
I was under the impression that Epic Mickey has always been a Wii title.
Martin @ Oct 5th 2009 1:54PM
Not sure why you got downvoted ... I felt the same way. Looks like a good title for Wii owners though.
Rob S. @ Oct 5th 2009 2:05PM
Just buy a Wii, if that is the problem. They're cheap enough now.
Vcize @ Oct 5th 2009 2:09PM
I don't think he was disappointed because he can't get a Wii to play it on. I think he was disappointed because it will probably end up being a much crappier game than it would if it were on the 360/PS3.
And I know I'm going to get flamed for that, but I'm really not trying to troll here.
FraGNeM @ Oct 5th 2009 2:30PM
Knowing this thing is only on the Wii means we'll have to accept that the final game won't look anything close to the concept art. Considering the sheer detail in the revealed concept art, that's a shame.
I have a Wii, but I'd love to see something like this on a more powerful console.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 5th 2009 2:55PM
I agree. The concept art is absolutely stunning, the Wii doesn't have near enough power to do that.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 5th 2009 3:24PM
Ever since the rumor of this game leaked it has been talked about like it was a wii exclusive. I know when me and fernando were talking about we both assumed it was wii exclusive, and I look forward to hearing more about it.

I always stifle a laugh at the folks who say he Wii can't do this or that when it comes to art style.
Art style is just that — art STYLE. A good designer (and I suppose we'd all agree that Warren Spector qualifies as a good game designer) will take into account limitations and strengths of a system and ensure that said art style will come through.

1. This was my first time hearing of the game, I guess I wasn't around when it was originally announced.
2. I own a Wii and enjoy many of the games for it.
3. Completely agree on the stifled laugh at people who can't differentiate the artistic quality and technical/graphical quality of a game.
Thanks, guys.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 5th 2009 5:13PM
@Samfish: True, but Okami's style was set in stone with the concept art, there is no way in hell that the Wii can produce something like this concept art. That's what people are getting at, we all know you don't have to have good graphics for a good style, but with this particular style, you do.
Mr Khan @ Oct 5th 2009 5:42PM
If you roll around the dev team's site, you'll only see them using Wiimotes and N Dev kits. Thus it was widely believed to be Wii-exclusive before any sort of confirmation.
squeehunter @ Oct 5th 2009 6:50PM
You know, while I disagree with those who got down voted and I agree with everyone else, something doesn't seem right about people with non-mainstream opinions getting their posts whited out. Like their opinion isn't as good as everyone else's. It's like the Digg-ocracy.

were it possible to travel to an alternate reality where Okami was first announced THIS gen instead of last and all people had to go by was the concept art, I can guarantee you any prize on Earth that people would be saying that the Wii is incapable of producing Okami's visuals.
There are STILL HD graphics whores who think Okami would look better in HD (it really wouldn't beyond resolution).
Is it possible that the art style is too ambitious for the Wii? Of course. Given the talent behind this, though, it seems unlikely that they won't do it justice.

Hey Mr. Khan, while you're so busy pointing out other people's poor observation skills, how about the rafter of reading comprehension in your own eye? I DID NOT KNOW THIS GAME EXISTS.
Mr Khan @ Oct 5th 2009 9:21PM
That wasn't directed at you. It was a general statement on the old question of the game's Wii exclusivity.

It's Mickey fucking Mouse. The dude practically invented hearts and smiles. He doesn't need to go grimdark and serious because he's Mickey Mouse.
