When Microsoft told us that the new 802.11n adapter for Xbox 360 would be "another choice for consumers," we began to develop these crazy hopes that it would give consumers the choice to pay less than a hundred bucks for wireless 360 connectivity, either through a lower price point for itself or with a price drop on the existing wireless adapter.
If GameStop's listings are any indication, however, that's not to be. According to the retailer, the new device will sell for the same $99.99 as the current Wi-Fi adapter upon its release on November 3. Though there's still hope for the price on the existing adapter to drop, it too is currently listed at $99.99. Basically, consumers will now have the choice of which wireless protocol they prefer.
[Thanks, Jugger G]

Your mileage will vary, but if you set up two identical PC's next to each other, one wired and one wireless and ran a few basic diagnostic tests on each, the wired computer would win every time in terms of speed, stability, latency, packet loss and hardware longevity (long term cost).
Most people probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference, but then again most people can't tell a difference between DVD and blu-ray ;-)

I bought the $100 WiFi adapter when I got my 360 just after launch. I quit using it last year after I got an ethernet run to my entertainment center. I'm much happier. That stupid WiFi adapter wouldn't work like 1 in 10 times I turned my 360 on. I'd have to get up, unplug the adapter and plug it back in.
There is one good thing about MS's approach to wireless that is good for like 0.01% of the market. Those people that are streaming HD from their PC to their 360 and don't have the wired option. PS3 people that only have the wireless option are stuck with 802.11g, unless they buy an external solution as well. 802.11g does not stream HD very well at all.

Honestly the only real difference (between g & n protocols) for practical console gaming purposes is going to be the extended range of the wireless N signal over the G signal. I have an 802.11 g/n router so I'm good there but I'm not in any hurry since I've had no performance issues with my G network & devices.

Unreasonably high hard drive prices just make it less likey i'll ever buy any of the stuff they offer on xbox live. Keep it up MS.
And prices for the wireless are just a joke. No competition with these peripherals = we all lose

This isn't true. I stream HD just fine into my bedroom Tivo and Xbox, both over G.

Even if we disregard the pricing of the new device, it makes the pricing of the old device that much more ridiculous.

Jugger G. is in the house! Cool that they put up on the site the info I submitted this morning. Originally I had noticed on Gamestop's website it showed a November 2010 release but that didn't make any sense with them listing it a year out so I figured it was a site error. I said three weeks ago this thing was going to be $99.99 and for all of those who said I was full of it and it would be $149, you all can kiss my Warthog! Aight!!!!!!!!

So does this piece of crap support WPA2 (an official standard in September 2004, required some time in 2006) or do we have to wait for the Xbox 3 for that?
I found a 360 wireless G adapter on clearance somewhere and snapped it up because I wanted a convenient, clean wireless solution (unlike a bridge which has all sorts of cables and power adapters) - sort of like the PS3 and Wii have built in as many people have already pointed out - but then found to my amazement it didn't freakin' support WPA2. It went back the next day, and I went back to swapping the cable with my PC (still less effort than making up another CAT 6 cable for the run I need to do).
Nintendo gets no points because the DS didn't support WPA at all, and the DSi only halfway supports it (old DS games do not gain WPA support for some reason). The only one who's done networking right is Sony - built in on all models, even gigabit wired on the PS3.

This price is outrageous. I had bought a USB Wi-Fi adapter for my laptop at Wal-Mart and it only cost me $40. No wonder Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. Even Andy Rooney had some bad things to say about Bill Gates. Here is a link to Andy's Bill Gates rant:

I'll stick to my Wii.

you do know that bill gates isn't leading Microsoft anymore, right? steve ballmer does now. plus, you make gates sound like a greedy crook. do you know how many billions he's donated to charity? plus, when he dies, he's giving almost his entire fortune to charity, leaving $10 million to each remaining family member. he's a pretty good guy.
