on that note, Gears was only a great game because it did something different like resi 4, that is one of the best ps2 game of all time, and it because it did someate different and also it has a movie like story which made it a better game, i think any game that going to be a competitor to gears or class as one is going to be bashed and compared to gears, like dark sector which is was basically the same game with different skins and weapons and made by the same people.

Look at Dead space people was saying it was like resi 4, which it was kind of like, and that game turned out to be decent, i havnt played it just what people said.

Though me been honest i was disapointed with gears because all my firends was like its the best game ever and it didnt live up to the hype my firends made for it.

@ Skizz - I would have thought it was funny too, LOL.

@ Ashley - Dead Space was nothing like Resident Evil 5, and thank god for that. It was better in every conceivable way.

i said that it was like resi 4 not 5, though, the game play in dead space is simular to resi 4 and the camera angle is the same, as well as the aiming, same as how Quantum is gears, just that quantum does things different like there more meele in it

of course, nothing can ever stand up to Joystiq's undying fanboy love for 360 games.

Yes God forbid they compare it to Gears, one of the most successful and well reviewed third person shooters ever.

Shame on you Joystiq!

Gears read:over hyped, generic games that came out when the 360 had nothing better- EXCEPT, MSs mass funds to support the hype.

Yes, shame on you Joystiq.
You'll hype anything that MS throws at you, all the while cleverly bashing any PS3 Exclusive that comes around.

You've even taught these idiots around the blog to down vote and bash any comment going against you and your thoughts!

Yeah, just like how they had nothing but bad things to say about Uncharted 2 in that recent review they did of it.

Oh wait...

@Vcize

"Considering just how many times I asked myself, "How long can they keep this up?" you can imagine my disappointment when the answer turned out to be, "About half of the game."

"The stunning set pieces of the first half are replaced by more conventional gun battles, and the engrossing character moments are supplanted by stilted, forced standoffs you've seen in every action movie."

"The plodding in the second half is enough to notch down the game from "genre re-defining milestone" to "insanely great action game,"

Just saying ... you asked.

Yeah that trailer isn't all that great. Go watch the better gameplay ones at gt.com.

This game still has potential. Joystiq usually (and accurately) criticizes a game in development to only find that upon release the game(s) pulled through (White Knight Chronicles and Demons Souls come to mind).

It needs work, but it looks like it could be a must-buy if they sorted out all the issues, while it may have gears written all over it, it's no gears at heart, which is both a bad and good thing, bad in the sense that gears has A-class written all over it, hands down, and good in the sense that after playing Gears 2, something similar but different would be more appreciated, can't say Gears 2 impressed me as much as the first Gears did.

Hehe, if joystiq had written a positive hands-on i can guarantee that 90% of these comments would be positive as well. It's like a trail of rats following the Pied Piper.

As for the game itself, I'm not saying it will be the second coming of Gearsus, but I'm willing to wait and see what the final product looks like before I take it out behind the shack and put it out of its third person misery.

From what I've seen so far, it looks pretty decent. Only an early build was played, so it sounds like the can iron out the minor kinks before release.

Sure it looks a bit like Gears, but Gears was like Kill Switch. What does it matter?

I had pretty high hopes for this one considering it's from Tecmo and I believe Team Ninja. But to be perfectly honest it looked exactly like Gears Of War ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I still think the first Gears Of War is the definitive reason to own a 360 as that game has some of the most fun multiplayer this generation. Gears 2 pretty much sucked and was terrible with all the lag, glitches, matchmaking issues etc but the one thing it had going for it was certainly the spectacular Horde mode ... which everyone from Halo to Call Of Duty is ripping off.

Back to the game itself - I'll buy it if they can get it up to a respectable standard in terms of the framerate and graphics. If the game ships in near identical form as the trailer I probably won't even consider purchasing it at all. It would need some insanely fun multiplayer for me to put up with those type of technical issues.

I've been interested in the game since I heard about it but wasn't too sure how the living tower idea was going to pan out. After seeing this latest trailer, I think it could work. I'm looking forward for more gameplay to be released and hopefully they'll fix the issues that this reviewer had of it. All I want really is a fun game that controls well, I don't really care if the game brings something new to a genre, I just want well designed levels that are fun to play and not have to worry about clunky controls.

Maybe people should stop comparing every third person shooter that uses cover to Gears. Gears wasn't the first game to use cover, it also wasn't the first game set in a dark world of grays and black. I didn't play the multi of Gears but the single player campaign was pretty average. Yeah, it looked really good but there are better looking games out there. I played it about a year or so after it came out and thought it was highly over rated. It was way too short and the story wasn't that good, but it was fun.

If you're a reporter and you need to constantly compare games to other games, you're not very good at your job. If you're a gamer and doing the same, you need to become more open and diverse and like (or dislike) for what that individual game brings and not just compare it to other games.

I don't know why, but as a PS3 fanman (I haven't been a boy in a long g*damn time and I can think for myself, hence the new word) I'm kind of happy that this sounds like sh*t so far. Maybe people should make their exclusives slightly more unique, aye?

Of course, even if it just needs some polish and it comes out friggin' amazing, I still won't play it - gimme a solid narrative over muscle-bound characters any day.

Epic should have released Gears of War on the PlayStation 3. I know they're sitting at Epic Studios without a care in the world, but can Epic Studios really afford not to develop for the PlayStation 3? Last game was Unreal Tournament 3, and the console was really struggling then, but this is now. First week sales for the PS3 in Japan really high.

It could very likely be possible for Quantum Theory to really pull out. I will say that they're missing single player co-op like Gears of War has, then they might as well scrap the project. Gamers are gonna wanna Co-op.

I kinda get the feeling Tecmo may have pulled some of their team from Team Ninja and sent them in to cover the sword melee for the game. Just seems to have kinda that style.

I am noticing some frame-rate issues already. I fear that if they smooth that out, the graphics are gonna take a hit. Maybe that's why Epic Games commanded a 512MB of RAM with the 360 is because it'll keep the same High Res graphics, while keeping the frame-rate stable. I don't know. It makes me think.

If Tecmo can pull this off, Epic is going to have to respond somehow. Next, a developer may be working on a Mass Effect type game. If that happens, what's Microsoft gonna have left? Halo is appealing to its core gamers, but.... I didn't buy an Xbox 360 for Halo. I bought it for Gears of War, Dead Rising and Lost Planet, which are being Exclusives lost to Sony.

1) Microsoft owns the Gears of War franchise. In other words, the chances of Gears of War coming to PS3 are the same as the chances of Uncharted coming to Xbox360.

2) Look at that trailer...nothing about it tells me this game has any chances of pulling out. The problem is those guys have the wrong idea about what western gamers like.

3) You're not the only one who noticed issues with the frame rates and other problems...

4) Gears of War isn't being lost to Sony. As for Dead Rising and Lost Planet, those games aren't Microsoft developed games but 3rd party so just as how "exclusive" games coming out for PS3 became multiplatform the same happened to previously "exclusive" Xbox360 games.

Actually Epic Games gave the PS3 version of UT3 extra special treatment. It's a shame the game wasn't very popular...

Also, the frame-rate has nothing to do with RAM. The code just needs to be (heavily) optimised. The graphics engine obviously isn't built to handle what the developers are throwing at it. Of course, this doesn't mean that the game will fail overall; if you fix the graphics engine, most of the problems noted here disappear. Well... The dialogue and character design won't be changing but the other issues should be fixed. Of course, the game could always be delayed like half the games that were meant to be in this year's line up.

I'm not a great fan of Gears of War so I doubt that I'd get this game. I don't think it should be COMPLETELY discredited though, as there is still a while until this game is to be released. I'm just acting as the devil's advocate though...

my apologies if anyone has mentioned this as of yet (didn't see it if someone did) but...

that main character totally reminds me of "girugamesh guy." I can't concentrate on anything else watching the video because of it.

the game doesn't look appealing to me in the slightest. what are they doing over there? stop pretending you know what we want japan and either friggin' ask us or... I don't even know. Some of the greatest games have come from there... hate to see it like this.

Well, the trailer looks interesting. I don't particularly care for the art style though...too much H.R. Giger-like action going on. Hopefully they can fix whatever is broken. If it was any good, I'd grab it over Bayonetta, a game at this point I find really unlikeable...
