Natal in Fable 3 hinted by a paranoid Molyneux

"And obviously what would probably happen if I started talking about this is you would see a little red dot appear moving on my forehead," Molyneux continued. "And then as I would start to speak the words then there would be a shotgun fire, and I would be assassinated. Quite clearly, it is that sensitive." But not so sensitive that he can't quite nearly confirm it in the next breath.
"Do you really think, knowing me, as maybe you do over the years, I wouldn't want to use something like Natal? I mean, that's just mad, man." Let's just lay it out here: The guy responsible for basically the only known Natal project is going to put some Natal segments in Fable 3. We all know this. It's going to happen. Try to look surprised when it's announced at whichever trade show next year.

Will this man ever shut up? Half the things he says are lies anyway.
Kamal @ Oct 5th 2009 12:48PM
A combination of controller and Natal based games is how I see Natal being successful. It will be interesting.
bluezy @ Oct 5th 2009 10:01AM
Who assassinates someone with a shotgun?
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 5th 2009 10:05AM
Not just a shotgun, a shotgun with a laser site!

Lasersighted shotguns? Put this man in charge of the next Modern Warfare! It'll have shotguns with laser sights, water grenades, sniper uzis, and armored socks!

Sniper Uzis?
Laser sight shotguns?
Assassins are losing their touch.
JUNG GUNS @ Oct 5th 2009 11:35AM
yeah he's like totally out of touch with the shooter market, obviously.
Duke @ Oct 5th 2009 12:59PM
bluezy, that was the first thing I thought of reading this too. We all knew he would use Natal - the only shocking idea was someone assassinating him with a shotgun.
captainprotonx @ Oct 5th 2009 10:03AM
The Natals...they speak...speak to me.
Move, dance, steal, pee...I can't stop...talking is eating me.

Why would someone use a laser site on a shotgun?
copa @ Oct 5th 2009 10:08AM
To pick out which side of the building they want to hit.

Dramatic effect?

Well at least its better than using a shotgun with an acog scope.(im looking at you rainbow six vegas!!)

MystileArmor @ Oct 5th 2009 10:09AM
I don't care what they implement into it, as long as Molyneux doesn't make up stuff that's not in it... which is like... 60% of whatever he's been talking about.

If this man thinks you need to put a laser sight on a shotgun, then I'm glad he's making RPGs and not FPS... ¬_¬
Shapur @ Oct 5th 2009 10:46AM
I think shooters have warped peoples minds a little bit. You all know a shotgun is effective at 60 feet, and possibly more than 100 depending on design. It's not like Halo where you have to firmly plant in on your enemies chest.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 5th 2009 10:49AM
True, it's not like people go duck hunting with a sawed off Mossberg 12g.
Mewchu [Super Kawaii Power! ^.^ ] @ Oct 5th 2009 11:23AM
You also don't go duck hunting with a laser sight, either... ¬_¬
Stevetrop @ Oct 5th 2009 12:46PM
But you could and that would make it more interesting. Heck I'd like to try duck hunting with a grenade launcher. See what fun that could provide.
Mewchu [Super Kawaii Power! ^.^ ] @ Oct 5th 2009 1:36PM
I've never been duck hunting but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that using a laser sight to hunt ducks is stupid. For your consideration:
Most species of duck have an average maximum altitude of 836 meters. Quick conversion and rounding tells us this is 91 yards. According to Crimson Trace, a laser sight manufacturer who uses the most powerful laser diode allowed by US law, in ideal morning sunlight conditions (ducks usually aren't out at night) conditions the laser can be seen for 15 yards. Even if that laser somehow refracted through a cloud and telescopically increased it's distance, it still does nothing for the range of your shotgun. But let's assume for some reason they were closer, in a more accurate representation of a hunting scenario. You would still have to be very good to not only hold the "dot" on the duck in mid-air for a long enough time to get a good shot without a scope, but you would risk scaring the duck, ultra-bright high intensity high-focus lights aren't exactly a predominant fixture in most nature enviroments.
So yeah, stupid argument is stupid, end of story. And don't even start with the "grenade launcher" thing, that's a typical "gamer who doesn't know anything about real weapons" kind of reaction. Real life isn't Halo.
GiggMan @ Oct 5th 2009 10:26AM
Good thing it's going to use a controller.
I'm guessing most of the "big" titles are going to use a standard controller and feature Natal in the background. I'm interested to see what they can do with it though, I honestly don't have the slightest idea what it can be used for...... I guess thats why Molyneux makes the big bucks.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 5th 2009 10:46AM
NPC Interactions (a la Milo) maybe? Or maybe just for spell selection or merchant shopping menus. Either way, Natal or not, I cannot wait to play Fable 3.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 5th 2009 11:31AM
considering how molyneux has said that Fable 3s new interaction system will be "touch and judgment" it'd be pretty hard not to imagine Natal in there somewhere
robotoid @ Oct 5th 2009 12:37PM
Yeah I can imagine like in shops, you could "grab" what you want to buy. Or in fighting maybe using spells by saying them out loud ala Harry Potter. But I'm not so sure about NPC interactions... I mean, I guess the "touch & judge" thing has a clue on that maybe, but I just can't imagine it... like Milo mini-games with the NPCs? I don't know, but I definitely trust Molyneux.
KIHP @ Oct 5th 2009 10:27AM
Maybe the laser sight was from an assault rifle from the calm collected member of the group but the rookie rushed ahead and shotguned him, thus exPlaining the laser sight shotgun combo.

Still don't know why Microsoft's being so damned secretive about this. Now is the time for them to continuously build hype. Keep the good PR rolling until this thing finally comes out.
Tom Kalinske, CEO. @ Oct 5th 2009 10:57AM
It is over a year away. We announced SegaCD over a year ahead of its North American launch mainly to keep our customers from defecting to Nintendo again (Though it turned out we didn't need to) and that seems to be what Microsoft has done here.
I see Natal as a moderately successful add-on, one that's too expensive/gimmicky to be widely accepted. It's 50 percent of the cheapest console, and all it seems to be is a collection of cameras/sensors. I wouldn't be surprised to see between 25/50 percent of owners buying this for their Xbox, but not much higher than that.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 5th 2009 12:14PM
too expensive? have the announced a price yet?
Batzarro @ Oct 5th 2009 11:00AM
So you'll use Natal to make your character play with his cock, like in the picture?
Tom Kalinske, CEO. @ Oct 5th 2009 11:06AM
Probably. Also to utilize those 'darkened scenes' to maximum effect.
Dirty @ Oct 5th 2009 11:10AM
Someone is about to get all Cheney on his ass.
Tim Johnson @ Oct 5th 2009 11:54AM
If Fable 3 integrates Natal, I'll be less inclined to buy the game. I'm already leaning toward not purchasing it, as I've been disappointed by the first two.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 5th 2009 12:45PM
So let me get this straight...you were disappointed in Fable 1. Then, after being disappointed in Fable you decided it'd be a good idea to buy Fable 2? And now, after being disappointed in not only Fable, but Fable 2 as well, you've come up with the idea that you should consider buying Fable 3?
Stevetrop @ Oct 5th 2009 12:52PM
Kinda reminds me of the folks who complain about madden and yet still buys it year after year..
Personally I like the Fable franchise. While not a perfect gaming series it does provide fun and thats all I'm looking for.
Duke @ Oct 5th 2009 1:03PM
Except Steve, Tim is obviously full of sh*t. I would wager he hasn't bought at least one of the ones he was disappointed in. An option like Natal wouldn't be what stops you from getting the title if you don't like the series in the first place.
Peter Molyneux [Planeteer | Power of Inspiration, Ingenuity & General Bullshitery] @ Oct 5th 2009 12:01PM
Yes, my assassination will be quite a sad day. To all of you talking about a "laser sight on a shotgun", forgive me if my assassin will be inspired by the thought of killing me to create such a new and devastating weapon combination.
Also, it's not like my death would mean anything. I have regeneration abilities like that bloke Wolverine. How did you think I became such a revolutionary thinker? I've been alive for hundreds of years. And I dare say that I might be related to several of you. I had quite loose morals for a hundred or two years ago.
And the Natal support? I told you, air humping your virtual wife.
Snowblind @ Oct 5th 2009 12:09PM
The only thing that really has me interested in Natal is Black & White 3 and Viva Pinata 2, both would work really well using it.
As for things like Fable? I don't really see it being for anything besides a few optional minigames.
Peter Molyneux [Planeteer | Power of Inspiration, Ingenuity & General Bullshitery] @ Oct 5th 2009 12:11PM
