The biggest thing I believe that can hurt war game to movie adaptation would be if they make it out as one man is one hero who saves the regiment, platoon, army, or what ever. Its a problem where if they get a big name star and he wants to be the hero and it differs from the squad doing what they can to win. Though that situation and downfall can happen to just plain war movies as it is anyway.

Ether way I'm going to stay away from this for now. If it comes out good thats cool but I wouldn't be surprised if it crash and burn.

A good war movie still works today. Has anyone seen The Hurt Locker? So far, it looks like a shoo-in for Best Picture. It's simple, but it was amazing. I think it would be very cool if this movie went down that route, but I highly doubt it.

I'll bet it'll be a "COOL SPESHUL FORCES WITH AWESOME GUNS" movie instead of a good war-themed film like Platoon.

Why do this? Film is an inferior medium for the type of storytelling at which the CoD series excels. I'd much rather be at the controls and watch a few well-implemented cut scenes than sit back and watch yet another generic action flick. The *spoiler* radiation poisoning death scene was a lot more effective after I had been controlling the character than it would have been if I had just been watching him. Film-to-game transitions make a hell of a lot more sense to me than those from games to film.

Alright, c.f. The Escapist's argument as to why so many video game movies suck: most video games are already crappy interactive knockoffs of famous movies. "Resident Evil = George Romero films; Halo = Starship Troopers; Dead Space = Event Horizon; Grand Theft Auto = Every crime film made in the last 40 years." And Call of Duty = Saving Private Ryan and every subsequent war movie. In other words, if you take away the compelling gameplay, all you're left with is a crappy knockoff of Saving Private Ryan. Or, for Modern Warfare, a crappy knockoff of Saving Private Ryan and Tom Clancy.

Yikes! I guess if it's based on the Modern Warfare games and not one the games about wars that actually happened. I'm letting them off with a warning because in no way is this a worse idea than a Spore movie.
