EyePet won't see a holiday release in the US
"EyePet is now out of holiday," a SCEA representative told us rather succinctly, confirming an initial report from Gamervision. The PlayStation Eye-enabled virtual pet has been stealthily pushed out from its planned November release into the increasingly crowded waters of 2010. SCEA explains that its marketing team "will spend additional time to continue educating consumers and retail channels, setting the table for a successful product launch." Essentially, not enough people are excited about EyePet yet for it to warrant a holiday release.
Initial plans had EyePet releasing in two varieties: alone; and bundled with the camera. However, considering another big Sony product -- also coming in early 2010 -- requires use of the Eye, Sony may pursue a completely different marketing plan altogether.

ClarkyAC @ Oct 6th 2009 9:24AM
One more game for 2010..
Although, it would look/sound good at a certain confrence when sony announce how many games they are releasing/released in 2010.
uncle jesse @ Oct 6th 2009 9:32AM
I'd hold off, like they are. Wait to bundle it all together as a more complete package and when there is more consumer awareness about the motion controller, too.
RangerPrimeX @ Oct 6th 2009 9:58AM
Bet they moved it so it it can incorporate the motion wand and launch together. I know of a lot of non-gamers who were looking forward to it for xmas and they will not be happy.
JACK @ Oct 6th 2009 9:35AM
Totally agree Andrew Yoon! I think the Sphere, or as I like to call it the, "PMC" is the reason EyePet is getting pushed. That, and they have a great bundle possibility if they wait and get it right.
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 6th 2009 10:12AM
PMC == Private military company.
Anyone who has a ps3 would know this!
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Oct 6th 2009 9:40AM
STUPID, STUPID IDEA to be honest.
A great CHILDREN game not released for Christmas? Seriously?
Good thing it's still coming out this year (October) in the UK.

No.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 6th 2009 9:50AM
Don't tease me like that Joystiq. I got excited and read "Eyepet won't see a release" and was about to run around my house cheering.
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Oct 6th 2009 9:56AM
Wow. Feeling douchy today?
What's so bad about a game being released? Don't like it, don't buy it.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 6th 2009 9:57AM
I still haven't forgiven them for cancelling 8 Days and Getaway for this. I want this to fail, and fail hard.
ClarkyAC @ Oct 6th 2009 9:59AM
This is my house.... There shall be no smiles here!!
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Oct 6th 2009 10:05AM
"Yeah, they allegedly canceled a game I liked to make a different game so I hope they will never release this game so I can get my revenge."
Wow. Just wow. They didn't cancel those games to work on EyePet. A quote from the presser:
"It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget."
They couldn't afford to make those huge games so decided to make something smaller instead. What do you want them to do, never make a game again because they canceled a project?
Nigeria: Charmy Bee DF @ Oct 6th 2009 10:06AM
Mad over missing another entry in the Getaway series?
We are talking about that Sony Mockney vehicle, right? If so, then good riddance.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 6th 2009 10:11AM
Archon I'm not sure where you got all that, but here's a quote by Yoshida in a previous joystiq article..."There are so many things that we want to do, more than we can do with the resources. So when London Studio was looking at the early work on EyePet and the prototype of Eight Days, they knew they couldn't do all of them." They clearly cancelled Eight Days in favor of this.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/28/sonys-choice-eyepet-beat-out-eight-days/
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 6th 2009 10:13AM
Quite honestly, I couldn't care less what their excuse is. Bottom line is, they cancelled 2 games with promise for a casual game you play for 30 minutes and get bored with. Even if those 2 games just turned out to be decent, it would have been a better outcome than this crap.
digiboi @ Oct 6th 2009 10:37AM
Eight Days was cancelled because it was politically toxic. too soon
Donald @ Oct 6th 2009 2:32PM
Both Eight Days and Getaway aren't dead, just "on hold" while they focus on other things (read: make money).

To be honest, I probably wouldn't have bought the getaway or eight days, but I do plan on buying this.
Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Oct 6th 2009 10:14AM
"Getaway"
Wait, there are people still excited for that series? Really?
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 6th 2009 10:19AM
The 2 Getaway games have above average scores and combined sales of over 5 million, I'm sure there are still some people that want a sequel.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 6th 2009 10:23AM
Over something like Eyepet? Yes, I'll take anything over this garbage.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 6th 2009 10:24AM
I would have loved the equivalent of GTA in london ¬_¬
GiggMan @ Oct 6th 2009 10:27AM
@tmac
If they released Getaway you would just talk shit about that too. You just can't change who you are.

This sucks. I was gonna buy to regular( we already have the PSeye) copies, one for my kids and one for my sisters kids. Christmas won't be the same.
Kinsey @ Oct 6th 2009 11:13AM
I bet they'll postpone it and make release with the motion controller. Kind of like the opposite of Socom where they rushed to release it with the wireless headset.
Mr Khan @ Oct 6th 2009 12:06PM
Missed opportunity for 'em. It could have made a real bid at the family audience, and there's nothing really on PS3 this season to appeal to them, other than Ratchet and Clank. It would've gone great with the new price.
genem30 @ Oct 6th 2009 12:16PM
I was kind of looking forward to this, although the $40 pricetag for just the game seemed steep IMO, based on what I've seen and heard a $25 price point seems more attractive.
Maybe Sony is going to educate me on why it should be $39.99.
knuckles_006 @ Oct 6th 2009 2:05PM
import it from europe. problem solved.
The1stMJC @ Oct 6th 2009 2:21PM
Damn this was going to be my easy Christmas gift for my 11 year old sister, now I am going to have to buy her a gift I can't use too. I wonder if she would like Assassin's Creed

but I feel as if they are trying to do a WandyGlobe bundle....
Now My wife is going to be all like "You just bought like 5 games, what happen to that one for the kids?"
SolidSnakeX @ Oct 7th 2009 7:36AM
LMAO there just scared of Natal because it will kick both Sony's and sorry to say this the Wii's Ass in 2010!!!!!!!!!!! I saw the new preview and it is what they claim it can do!.. Just you wait. I love the idea of no damn Controllers everything is being used by your body emotions now that is high tech so how about Nintendo?..
Everready @ Oct 6th 2009 7:52PM
more like FailPet
Pat @ Oct 6th 2009 4:03PM
I am certain Sony is counting on 3 of its biggest franchises to drive the PS3 through the holidays- namely Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and God of War (I & II on Blu Ray). That on top of other 09 releases such as Killzone and Infamous for those just getting into PS3. And finally third party games such as AC2, and Modern Warfare.
However EyePet was covering a big gap in the market- family oriented games. This seems like an odd move to do, specially considering that as far as we know that game is not motion control enabled. Parents looking for a system (and game) for their kids could have been swayed with EyePet as an option this season.
Danny @ Oct 6th 2009 5:11PM
let's take a vote: who cares? anyone? anyone at all?
Tez @ Oct 6th 2009 5:14PM
Disappointing, it's a smart holiday release for Sony. However, I think this is the kind of product that can always use more tweaking and fine-tuning, and they are probably also just going to hold it back for the motion controller release while they're at it.
