We can't seem to stop waffling on Epic Mickey. At the start, Warren Spector's involvement was enough to pique our interest. But we couldn't help but be a bit disappointed to see that Wii exclusivity might keep the game from being the graphical masterpiece we'd hoped for. But now, after reading a few details about the game scooped up by Eurogamer, we're right back on board.
The game reportedly revolves around forgotten Disney characters who, after years of being ignored, have grown bitter. None more so than Walt's first cartoon creation, Oswald the Rabbit. He's the one who spread all of the evil black goo around that you see above. Mickey will apparently have to use paint, thinner and erasers to draw his way through the world, which makes the Wii exclusivity a lot easier to understand.
Okay, so the black goo all over the world isn't the most original, but disgruntled Disney characters trying to wipe out Mickey? How cool does that sound?
(P.S. Captain EO as a villain. We demand it.)

So...this is like Mario Sunshine but with Mickey?

Yeah, sounds like Okami meets Mario Sunshine with the stupidest imaginable title ever.

You know what? That's not fair, it could have been worse. It could have been called, "WTFLOL Mickey."

If it worked out to combine those two games, then GOTY contender.
For me to like a game, combining Mario Sunshine (while not the best Mario, still amazingly great) with Okami is a pretty good combination.
Two Okami's duct-taped together though and you'd have a first day buy.

I know it was out of line, but that character was part of a segment in Song of the South:

I am amused that I got voted down. I am saying nothing about the quality of the title; "Epic Mickey" is an objectively stupid name.

@Sly, you're too right but then again an evil Captain EO would sell me. My son's gamer tag is all about EO so bring that character back people. He was sci-fi weird considering it's Mike Jackson.

Sounds like they're trying to recapture the success of Kingdom Hearts.

Photocopying? Sorry I don't think there'll be any horribly dull spiky haired kids in here mate. The only problem I had with Kingdom Hearts....was everything Square threw into it. Nomura's one of the worst designers out there.

It seems to me that Square's getting it into their head that people buy KH games for the FF characters, and not as much the Disney characters.
Not sure if there's background for that. But in the now-legendary "what platform will KH3 go to?" flame wars on VGChartz, i was told a number of times that FF characters are what sell those games...

I love Kingdom Hearts, but you're an idiot. This is nothing like Kingdom Hearts from what I have seen.

While my comment was mostly a joke, to say there is nothing like Kingdom Hearts here is pretty short-sighted. Hero goes out to save the world from black things that have taken over and meets up with various Disney characters along the way, but this time the Hero is also a (the) Disney character himself and perhaps a greater proportion of the Disney characters are enemies. Though, in all fairness, if I was going to design a game for Mickey, it'd probably be along those lines too as Disney won't have him doing anything too risque, etc.
It seems like the major potential for product differentiation will be the gameplay, as the novelty of back-catalog characters can only carry it so far.

Well, I think Goofy fighting Sephiroth was glorious, that's why I like to keep a balance of Disney and FF. Of course, I would prefer more crazy awesome Cloud and Squall moments like the ones we got in KH2, but I'll take what I can get.

Okay, first of all why is it that because it's on the Wii, it can't look nice? Super Mario Galaxy, Okami, and LoZ: TP all were artistic masterpieces.
And anyways...this game might be a buy for me...I'm going to go poor with all these great games coming out...well...poorer...
13 days till Borderlands! :D

If you don't consider any of the Zelda games masterpieces in there own right, then you aren't a real gamer.

I maintain that Twilight Princess rocks X-core.
Also, Midna was full of win. I like a girl with a tragically broken personality below the already awesome surface. (Spice and Wolf, anyone?)

"And both Okami and Twilight Princess were basically last gen games. Just think of what they could of been like developed just for the Wii."
In terms of Okami, you'd probably get Epic Mickey, and in terms of Twilight Princess, you'd get...well, the upcoming Wii Zelda. I'm expecting great things from both titles.

Twilight Princess was far from an artistic masterpiece. In fact I'd say it featured one of the dullest worlds yet seen in any 3D Zelda.
And that Twilight effect can be achieved by dragging around two sliders for about twenty seconds in Photoshop.

If the game is even half as epic as the concept art gallery, I will crap myself.

It's the concept art that keeps me coming back also. How I'd love to be immersed in the worlds Mr. Spector seems to want to create.
