Super sleuth Superannuation has uncovered a new trademark filed by Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner. The game-related application, which seeks to register the title "Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands," may concern a new entry in Ubisoft's storied franchise. Whether it manifests as a sequel to 2008's cel-shaded outing, a spin-off or as a tie-in product to 2010's film adaptation is a matter of speculation. That is, if the name ends up being used at all -- Mechner's last trademark, "Prince of Persia Prodigy," never saw official use.
It would be shame if that were to happen again. We quite like the ring of "The Forgotten Sands," even if the prince's knavish attitude in the last game might better suit a title like "Dude, Where's My Sand?"

God this franchise is getting tiresome. Since it's been revived in 1999 there's been 10 Prince of Persia games. Something gotta give...

I did of course.
There were no true different enemies.
The new Ormazd power was very similar to the blue Ormazd power.
I did enjoy the more linear approach, as that was a nice break from the more free-form approach of the main game. And the acrobatic courses felt a little different.
But my biggest complaint was the story advancement. Really, nothing was advanced...with such a wild ending of the real game (an ending I really liked) I expected this one to resolve that ending, not continue to set up for a sequel. My real point is that the end of the Epilogue could have easily been the end of the real game, we're still at the same point. Ahriman is still free. They're still going to try to do something about it.

Can I just get another PoP game that mirror Sands of Time's presentation and narrative?

THAT...and the combat style of the Sands of Time trilogy.

This.
Sand of time was the best in the series and still is.
None of the games after it have been as great.
Though the newest one was quite fun.

Warrior Within had the best platforming I thought, the overall mood of the game was just a huge turn-off (godsmack, seriously? *blech*). I know I'm alone in this, but the newest PoP is my favorite, even though I hated how combat always broke the flow of the game. I hope they can blend the art and setting of the last PoP with the pacing and combat of Sands for the new game.

I've got to ask, what was the appeal behind the newest Prince of Persia BESIDES the art style/graphics?
Everything else seemed a step down to me in comparison... I got bored and stopped playing after 3 or 4 bosses. I never played Two Thrones but I agree that Warrior Within had better platforming and combat then Sands of Time; pity about everything else though.

The original had brilliant writing, characters, visuals, etc and was even okay with the death system but I was let down by the repetitive gameplay (and I manage to still love Assassin's Creed, so that says something...). I really hope they mix things up for the second outing because they nailed everything else with the original.

Yeah, the one that came out last year (I was starting back at the reboot and considering this a new franchise).
Should have been more clear.

Don't be a dick, I am well aware of the franchise's history. I am talking in relation to the 2008 reboot (which is clearly different from the others)

So... Can the next one not be boring please?
I mean I could see the appeal of gameplay but... That was all they had to offer. It was like Assassin's Creed, but much less intolerable tedium and annoying 'die' every 5 minutes gameplay.
And before someone harps on me, I KNOW YOU DON'T REALLY DIE. I played the damn game but falling and being rescued by Elika, WAS DAMN NEAR THE SAME THING AS DYING.

I can't wait! I love me anything Prince of Persia related, so I'll be getting this day one. Maybe they could bring back chase scenes! Those were so fun in Warrior Within!
Don't understand why people thing Sands of Time was better than the sequels, though. For me, Warrior Within and Two Thrones built on what was awesome in Sands of Time and made it even better. Two Throne's ending still makes me giddy today. Those chariot races, on the other hand, sucked balls.

Newest game was one of the worst games I've played this gen. Huge disappointments come out of Ubisoft's place this gen. Particularly Far Cry 2 which had the setting, the good looking tech and oh yeah the setting! And then they pooped it up with the gameplay. Somebody needs to do a Far Cry 2: Redux. Please!
I'll pass on this game for sure.

The latest, cell-shaded, Prince of Persia was great! Please let there be a sequel. The atmosphere, the dialog, the graphics, the music...simply a great game, even though it probably wasn't for everyone.

"Stop looking at my ass!"
"I thought you lost your ass."
"Donkey!"
Things like this really made the 2008 release shine. It's a shame it has such a bad rap. Sure the combat was repetitive, but you could avoid 90% of it if you knew what you were doing. The graphics, controls, writing, and sound/music were all astounding.

I have to admit it took a good 4-5 hrs for the Prince to grow on me. His character just seemed so forced at times. But I will say the presentation values of that game are on par with anything else released this generation. I just wish an actual "game" was attached to it. It fel tlike a super polished tech demo. And eff that ending, Im sorry but I felt like it was a giant slap in the face.
:semi-spolier..maybe?:
An ending can be jarring without stripping the player of any feeling of reward and accomplishment.

I just started the 2008 game a few days ago (thanks goozex). It's okay, but I find it even more repetitive than Assassin's Creed. The characters are very likable and the story is pretty good, but dang, falling do your "death" every 5 minutes due to inconsistent controls is very annoying.
Elika has to be my favorite video game girl ever though. I have no idea why, she's just a great character.
Did I mention this game was repetitive?

I loved the first 3 major PoP games but after hearing the prince's voice acting in the recent remake I don't think I could bear to play it.

I have to agree, I miss the first Prince of Persia trilogy and when I started playing Prince of Persia (2008) it was great and I kind of enjoyed the storyline, until the end. That just killed it for a lot of people. They could of just finished it like a lot of Prince of Persia games and found another way to make a sequal, but instead, made an epilogue, made some extra pocket change, and still didn't finish it off. I hope the next one isn't as disappointing.
BTW, did anyone else get fooled when the Prince was calling for Farah in the sand storm. I literaly thought Farah from PoP 1 was gonna be in there, lol (Discounting the skins manager).
