While Sega of America's public relations team still hasn't said one word regarding an increasingly inevitable delay, Sega of America's website has finally declared that Alpha Protocol will not begin its mission until 2010. The site displays the Xbox 360 and PC launches for May 6, 2010, while the PS3 version has been left at "Spring 2010." This is a not-so-slight change from what the publisher's website showed this morning, when the release information stated the espionage RPG was "out now" -- a strange pronouncement for frustrated consumers, venting on developer Obsidian's forums, and retailers we'd spoken to.
Sega's update now fits with what several retailers have suggested about a 2010 release, including GameStop, Walmart, Amazon and GameFly.

It's good for the wallet, though I wasn't sure if I was gonna pick this up day one anyway. Haven't paid much attention to it. What say you, Joystiq masses?

I would have bought it, but it probably would have ended up like my copy of Rise of the Argonauts, that is, still sealed and unplayed

Hadn't planned on it. Then again, I almost never buy games on day one. I think my last day one purchase was Persona 4.

cause a majority of people would be spend their $60 buying MW2

I'm not sure why either. Not every gamer completely worships CoD. I bought 4, played it for a bit, and stopped. There are plenty of games I'm looking more forward too than MW2.

I love the concept of this game but not convinced they're going to deliver on it enough to warrant a day one buy. Interested? Yes. Convinced? No.

I couldn't agree more. I like the idea of an espionage/Mass Effect-like game, but what we've seen of Alpha Protocol looks a little lackluster.
Plus some of the characters look downright silly, i.e. the lady going to battle wearing a tube top! Ha! What's up with that? I'm sure they're thinking, "yeah it's like a Jame Bond femme fatal", but really it just looks like 13 year old boy fan service.

I'm glad, Obsidian makes buggy shit. Fantastic ideas and equally horrible execution.
Hopefully they make it right by the time of release.

Spring 2010 is Mass Effect 2 domain. Sorry, Alpha Protocol. Your only chance now is to get absolutely stunning reviews and come out sufficiently earlier in the season than ME2.

This game like Operation Flashpoint were on my rent before buying list due to a UC2 and MW2 all within the next 35 days. I don't blame them for delaying it, especially after FO3 add on content was released for the PS3 last week. Had I not sold my FO3 copy (getting goty edition later this year) I would have picked up the addon in lieu of another $60 purchase no questions asked.
I suspected all along Alpha would have been an exceptional used game purchase next spring..looks like that is delayed as well.

At least the delay means that obsidian probably wont get kotor2'd on this one and forced to release the game before it is finished.

Wow. So they are going to release this after Mass Effect 2... I'm interested in the game but I thought that the original timing of the release was in their favor. It could have been a nice little distraction.
Now I get to play the drinking game of "how many negative comparisons to Mass Effect 2 can be squeezed into one review of a game that is not Mass Effect 2?". I will be wasted...

Every good game is being pushed back to Q1! Agh! *Rips hair out.*
As much as I like ODST and the ever upcoming MW2, the games I really want keep getting delayed or were already pushed back... Splinter Cell, Bad Co. 2, ME2, and now this... Make it stop!
At least the KotOR restoration mod has hit beta. If only I could find a PC disc for it. The bugs crashed my Xbox several times over.

Whoa, cmon, what the foch.
I'll come clean: I was mocking people a couple months ago who were crying about all the games jumping ship. Back then it was just 4-5 AAA titles dodging Modern Warfare.
But we're at the point now where each successive delay becomes exponentially stupider. At this point, there really *is* no more room in Q1-Q2 2010. Meanwhile all that's left in 2009 is MWF2, Assassin's Creed, and a couple niche hits like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Dragon Age. Thrown in Batman and Halo, which are already out, just to be fair.
That's quite a haircut from how this season was shaping up as recently as June.

Funny how it says on the bottom Sega PASS.
This gam, however, does look interesting, but all too similar.
