More and more, we're seeing evidence that the days of favorite faces being permanently associated with certain outlets are a thing of the past. GamePro announced today that John Davison (formerly of What They Play and 1UP) would serve as executive vice president of content at its long-running magazine and website, a week after Garnett Lee left 1UP to head editorial content for GameFly. Davison's most recent project was recently sold to IGN.
In an official statement, Davison said he hopes to "reshape GamePro as a thoroughly modern integrated media brand," a strategy that we give five screaming happy faces out of five.

Garnett didn't leave to head GameFly. He left to head editorial content at ShackNews, which is a much lower (although still impressive) position.

First thing I noticed. I think he needs to put away that iPhone and get an actual workout that's not EA sports active.

Maybe we won't be seeing those faces in a couple of years, if Davison keeps his promise.
(GamePro is already maturing if my visit to the web site a few days ago is any indication. No more cheesy pseudonyms!)

So IGN bought What They Play without having John Davison under contract? I'm guessing they did not pay a whole lot.

Sad I won't hear John on Listen UP or the What They Play podcast which appears to now be defunct. Still- maybe GamePro will have something for him in that area. This might actually make me subscribe to another gaming magazine. Yes I respect Davison's work that much.

Has gamepro changed? I loved it when I was 16. But their reviews: "Crazy Larry gives the game 4 happy faces!!!"...really blew.

What's gonna happen to Listen UP?

It's going to continue with David Ellis as host, according to Garnett Lee. Uncertain whether John Davison will remain a regular guest. Is Gamepro even located in the same area?

I may have to give Gamepro another look. Like everyone else, it's been years. If he can bring at least some of the maturity they had at EGM it would be worth it. Right now all I get is GameInformer!

This decision deserves a negative dinosaur with a jetpack, kick flipping over a volcano. I love Gamepro about as much as Gamestop.

Remember when we fifteen and we read that mag? Never buying anything unless the guy had spiked hair for a rating in the review. Ah ... those days.

Damn. I hope John can turn Gamepro into something amazing. If anyone can do it its him.
Id follow that man to the end of the earth.

Agree, hope he does some good and makes it a readable mag. Although this does confirm that he wont be on the new EGM staff.

Well, hopefully he can turn Gamepro into a respectable publication that I wouldn't mind reading (or even visiting their site) once again.

Hopefully his inclusion will actually make GamePro a respectable publication.
