The thing about the Gameboy Micro is that you could play the GBA games you already owned and it was relatively inexpensive. I think people could somewhat stomach the price if they could play all of their PSP games, or if it was a downloadable system only and it was cheap.

The mistake the guy in the article makes is the assumption that the 'Go hinges on people who actually WANT to go into buying all their content digitally. The fact of the matter is that the only people who WILL buy it are people who want to spend money for digital content. it's the people who refuse to pay money for invisible bits of data that they cant physically own that wont touch the thing.

The people that will buy it will whole heartedly accept the price of the device, they'll justify the price of the downloadable content and they'll justify it happily to anyone that will listen. The same way people who defend paying 50 bucks a year for live defend it in the face of Free PSN. Not because they're wrong, they just see it as being more convenient for them.

i fiugred so when i first heard about it.

PSP-3000 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10120650&catid=&test%5Fcookie=1 169.99CAD

PSP GO 249.99CAD + Re-acquiring all the games we already have = 350CAD+

Thats why psp go fails. Because u can just get a 16GB stick and have everything: UMD and UMD-less games. Swap-able batteries, same good accessories.
PSP go has zero point.

PSP GO made me wanna buy PSP-3000 which means PSP-GO is working! :) I still miss my PSP-1000 tho.

I agree, I see absolutely no appeal in getting one of these. Maybe someone else can explain why anyone would want this without any UMD and such a high price?

I still don't get it.... Without UMD I can't play my existing games. Now i have to download games at retail price. With the UMD I can go to my local gamestore and buy used games for like 10 bucks.

I might pick one up because it's small and actually portable. I also have no MP3 player or PMP. So I think it's pretty decent. If this thing only played games than yeah I'd agree that it's garbage. but it does play music and movies as well as a few awesome games...in a small form factor.

I stated earlier I got one for my seven year old and Iove the fact that I don't have to deal with physical media. We have a 360, PS3, Wii, and two DS's so it gets cluttered.

The other day I had just bought NBA 2k10 and wanted to play it and it was in the Batman AA case.(I don't know where the hell Batman is). I got 360 games scratched all to hell, not the machines fault I think, and yesterday Infamous was in the Wii sports resort case. One thing I can tell you though is that I know where Fat Princess, Castle Crashers, MAG beta, U2 beta, and all of my other downloads are.

The point is this is great for kids, they ride the bus without lugging around games. Less stuff to keep up with is always better.

*Plus if you don't have a PSP why would you want to get one of the old ones?"

OK No Kill, taking away an option is what makes a device better eh? Good logic there. God forbid you be able to play a UMD game too. (Those UMD version psp's can DL game content too.)

@Duke
The UMD sucked, and I admit that I miss being able to rent games.
I know that they can download games too, but if i went the 3000 route, it would end up being 250$ anyways, due to having to buy a converter for 2 mini sd cards of 8 gigs.
And I don't wanna lug around UMD disks around town.

Yup I already own a 3000 with about 20 or so UMDs and I picked up a PSP GO because I can throw it in my pocket, have games and movies on hand without having to lug around any physical media. As people have mentioned the 3000 can still play digital content which is why I'll buy my games digital from now on and play it on both. It's really an amazing device all things considered and I hope the PSP2 uses the same setup and form factor with even more storage space onboard. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

The article's title should have been "Independent Uk retailer hopes* PSP Go will fail miserably. If I were in the retail game sector I'd probably feel the same way. Can't blame the man for that in the least bit.

I think (and hope) Sony will make (sooner or later) an UMD reader accesory to try to address all those complaints, since the weird accesories department for PSPGo must be already opened...

So, because one person says it's going to fail, it must be true. Hmm. Sony reported that the Go matched the sales of the 3000 in the UK. They can't be that low.

Wow, a brick and mortar retailer saying an all digital download device is going to fail. Does this surprise anyone?

This is equivalent to Colonel Sanders saying "You know, this whole heathly eating thing is really just a fad and it's going to fail miserably and everyone is going to go back to not caring about stuff like heart disease and obesity."

You can actually buy download cards from brick and mortar stores for the Go. They're like little code things that let you download a certain game without sticking your credit card on the internet.

Of course downloading will take away a large share of the store's profits, but brick and mortar establishments won't be left entirely in the cold.

It's Chips, I wouldn't really call them much of an indie store as much as a store that really prices games pretty high even compared to other smaller non-chain retailer. Of course he'd say that because he's afraid for his business. Had it been another source it'd be at least a bit more credible.

Give me a fucking break. Jesus Christ could have risen from the dead to tell us what a dumb idea the PSP GO is, and the same group of people would be here posting about how much of a Nintendo fanboy whore he is.

Yeah, this coming from a retailer makes it instantly suspect. I'm sorry, but if your business interests are best served by badmouthing a product, badmouthing it doesn't make you brave or insightful. It means you're doing your job. Asses.

I don't want a PSPGo myself, but ... I don't necessarily see what there is to gain by talking down at it.
