I'm this close to buying your game guys, all I need is a demo. If it runs on my box, my money is yours.

The first one wasn't bad. Played a lot of multiplayer on the college LAN.

From what I have seen, it reminds me of the old Ghost Recons on the PS2. That open-world, slower-paced gameplay - which is awesome.

so only mainstream, hyped things are capable of being good?
that's the most retarded thing i've ever heard.

Its a welcome breath of fresh air to war games. You actually have to plan your attacks and be cautious at all times.
If you're looking for a run and gun game, this isn't for you. Play COD or Halo or something. If you're looking for a psudeo-realistic war simulator then this is very decent.
Highly recommend it.

It sounds like this music is a remake of AA's music.

Yesterday was the ship date. This is nothing new.

usually unless a game has a strict street date on it like the big titles do, then when they say its coming out on the 6th for example you add a day to it for shipping. for some reason the 6th was the release date but no one will have it until today. only the big titles see a monday or tuesday release usually. sometimes a lesser title will be released on tuesdays also. it just depends on the publisher and how much competition they want for sales. to me i dont see how it would help by making a game release one day later, because if anyone really wants to buy it theyre going to buy it even it a game like halo, madden, uncharted or anything else comes out the same day. that is if they know for sure they want that particular game.

I was annoyed too. I understand now its the ship date, but most times companies will advertise for the day after because of the ship date. They really made this game sound like it was street dated, where they already have the copies... and for god sake, Best Buy doesn't even list it on their website. Someone dropped the ball on it.

It's fun so far, but the GUI for controlling your troops is so cumbersome :\
That and like the original Ghost Recon series, your AI troops will spot and kill badguys (through bushes and other line of sight blocking objects) before you ever have a chance to notice them.
I'm still excited for MW2 :|

ugh, that's disappointing. nothing ruins the fun of a game more than the AI ruining things for you.
does 4 player co-op completely rule out the need for friendly AI? because i have some friends who are interested in buying this and that could definitely help things.

The AI's qwirky. Most of the time its fine, then all of a sudden on of the squad will just wander off. Happens a lot when someones healing them.
The squad controls don't take long to master. I've played for about 2 hours and they feel pretty much second nature now. My only issue with it is you have to stand still to access the menu's.
Co-op removes the need for squad AI as well. Co-op should be a lot of fun.

I've been waiting for this game pretty much since it got announced. CoD:MW is nice and all but really what it is is a glorified corridor shooter, totally linear and heavy event scripting which ensures every time you play it's pretty much the same thing (single player anyway). This game will let you go about your objectives your own way which is a huge plus.

I read on the steam forums that they watered the game down for console play. Can anyone tell me if it is true? I would much rather play the ridiculously difficult control scheme of the first game.

Well, the number of players for MP is gimped.
No custom gamemodes to make like the ones in the first OFP
Control scheme is standard FPS flare, but you do not have the ability to freelook (have your head move independently from the rest of your body by holding the control key, very useful to maintain situational awareness) or freeaim

I can't believe how watered down this game is; there isn't a specific button to salute like in the original.

Hey breakerchase, did you say that you cannot free aim in this game on console?
This game reminds me a lot of BF2 (PC) which is one of my most favorite games.

We all know MW2 comes out in November, so don't mention it. This a different game mostly for a different audience, as well as for those who enjoy both for different reasons. Sure its more slow placed and incredibly realistic, but that's what made the original so amazing. The thrills of planning and executing situations on the battlefield knowing that at any second you could die by a wrong move makes the adrenaline much different from the adrenaline of MW2, where the adrenaline comes from the fast-paced blockbuster story and its own unique features. I'll be purchasing both, Dragon Rising today, and I cannot wait!

It's kind of funny --- I'm a GameStop employee and as I was working today, there were numerous people that had reserved this game (~8) and we had only got two copies in... People had come up to the store asking for the game, and even those who had it reserved couldn't pick up their copy until those who had it reserved before yesterday picked up theirs...
Couldn't we just call other stores and have them hand-carry a couple over to us that they had extras of? Oh.. we did. We called and everyone in our district had under-allocated amount.
This pisses us off because GameStop, the corporate whores of the gaming industry strive for us to push reservations and sometimes they send us more than enough, however, in this case not so much...

Game is amazing, simply amazing. But Halo kiddies and anyone who wasn't alive to play the first one need not apply, you will be frustrated, you will scream, you will throw your controller through your tv.
BRB making sweet love to OFP2.

Good review for those that are interested:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/10/08/wit-operation-flashpoint-dragon-rising/
"I’ve come this far without mentioning Arma 2, but it’s impossible to continue without doing so. These two soldier games are diametrically opposed. Arma 2 has all the ambition, character, and versatility, while Dragon Rising has all the production values, accessibility and neat design."
"By the end of Arma 2 you’re commanding – even building – an entire army, but Dragon Rising barely gets beyond small arms action."
"This is a game that is, spiritually and genetically, far more a successor to the Delta Force games than it is to the original Operation Flashpoint."
Shame that Arma2 and DR couldn't have made one game... it'd have been freakin awesome.

I got a copy by hanging out at Gamestop for half an hour yesterday before the shipments arrived, I actually also have a copy preordered from Amazon, but I just got an email today saying there was a 'delay' in shipping my order and I can now expect it to arrive on the 13th!

Game of the year as far as I'm concerned..I spent 1:45 on the first mission yesterday twice! Once by myself, once with my buddies. It's a shame that this type of game is basically extinct. ITS CHALLENGING...shooting is realistic. Anything over 200 meters you actuall have to use the marks on your crosshair to compensate for bullet drop. The AI is relentless, they've successfully supressed & flanked me...and firefights look and feel like something off of cnn...long range you can barely see a hint of the enemy..but the fact that bullets are snapping whizzing past your head ensures you...they're still there...Your FT AI are very competent, and you can make it through a mission without killing anybody. The games not perfect, but it is a welcomed breath of fresh air, and hopefully a regenerate for the tactical genre...if you liked the early ghost recons, this is the last game you'll buy for a while...it's like torture sitting at work knowing this is waiting for me.
