We knew that there was contingency of Xbox 360 owners who place a remarkable amount of importance on their largely unimportant Gamerscore -- however, a recent Official Xbox Magazine interview with Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has got us worried about our fellow man. According to Pitchford, developers who tweak their game's Achievements to make them a tad easier to obtain can boost sales of said game "by something like 10 and 40 thousand units."
Yes, Pitchford claims that there are 10 to 40 thousand people out there who purchase games based on their capacity to bolster their e-peen. That represents around $2.4 million being spent on making an inconsequential number slightly larger. Our faith in humanity wasn't just shaken by Pitchford's report -- it was absolutely obliterated. We're gonna go watch Rudy a few times until that faith is restored.

Um, keep in mind this is coming from Pitchford, not Pachter.

I like getting the achievements you had no idea existed. Like when I was playing Tales of Vesperia and got the
Too Much Free Time! (For going over the 100 hours of playtime). I laughed pretty hard when that popped up.
Achievements are a nice touch, but I appreciate them when they are tough to get.

Nintendo is skipping this step and just letting the game play itself. The distances we go for satisfaction...

Stupid article. Gaming as a whole is inconsequential. Gaming for the past 30 years has consisted of points, extra lives, secret areas, goals, missions, final bosses, rankings and achievements.
Why is it OK for all of the other elements to be there but god forbid achievement points. They are no more or less consequential than beating a game or solving a puzzle. The majority of achievements reflect time and skill in a game and completely fall in line with the competitive nature found in 99% of games.
Just another excuse for compulsive cynics to complain about e-peens.

I only care about achievements for games I like and own. I'm not gonna play or buy a garbage game for easy achievements that are nothing to brag about.
P.S: To all achievement whores, You wanna be the shit? Get the Master Ninja achievement on NG2. Good luck.

I have over 100k achievements. I used to get games strictly based off of if I could get 1000/1000 or not.
Now I play for fun and have 1000 or more in a TON of hard games like Both gears, ALL COD's, Orange Box, and the list goes on and on. Sure avatar is on there (gamefly) but I would take that off if I could. Not playing a game and getting achievements is GAY.

Gotta say I'm guilty of it, buddy of mine and I have a annual achievement whoring weekend, where we compete to see who can whore the most points in 3 days. And we go after whatever the last years easy achievement games are. And use the GameStop 7-day return quite liberally for that weekend.

I have 23.9% the possible achievements points I could have based on the 77 games I have played. That's a GS of 13634 out of a total 56985. I friend of mine has 75K for a GS, mind you that's from 169 games. I like the cheevos for playing the game, I want all 1000pts for just beating the game. I have never gone out of my way or did anything extra for GS and it drives me crazy playing with friends online who ruin my game by being achievement driven.
