Is Mortal Kombat II still available on PSN? Since it was owned by Midway, I would assume that it has been pulled.
AoE @ Oct 7th 2009 5:55PM
Why? I am pretty sure Warner Bros likes money too...
Nap @ Oct 7th 2009 9:07AM
Didn't nostalgia as hard as I wanted to with this game. I thought it was gonna be the SNES version :(
meatee @ Oct 7th 2009 11:46AM
Did you just use 'nostalgia' as a verb??
calgaryalta @ Oct 7th 2009 1:25PM
@ meatee
not saying I'm any better but I blame people like sean combs, who because of a lack of vocabulary say things like "I got to take care of my sexy" and then people start thinking that it's some cool new way to speak.
HedonisticKai @ Oct 7th 2009 9:08AM
you can beat the whole game doing jump kick.
jcj2391 @ Oct 7th 2009 9:08AM
I love Fat Princess......................Broccoli ftw
Taylor @ Oct 7th 2009 9:15AM
I think people really had a vision of TMNT being just like the SNES game, but better. I personally thought the critics were being too harsh and thought that they must have not enjoyed the SNES game, but this is a case where I should have listened to them. The game sucked and it made me pull out my SNES game again.
Prof. Von Manifest of the Clan McCloud (illogical logic is still logical) @ Oct 7th 2009 9:24AM
The SNES version will forever be THE version to play.
I played the demo & knew my childhood had been destroyed.
Taylor @ Oct 7th 2009 9:28AM
Ya, this definately taught me to download demos first, even if it's a game that you can't wait to play.
davebo @ Oct 7th 2009 11:20AM
I was really looking forward to this game coming out, but I still forced myself to download the demo first and it saved me $10. I wasn't hoping for the original graphics and sound, but I wanted an identical playing experience. If they had done this like Bionic Commando Rearmed or Super Street Fighter 2 turbo whatever remix the third, then they'd have gotten my money in a heartbeat.
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Oct 7th 2009 9:15AM
Is there something wrong with me? I still prefer the SNES version...
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Oct 7th 2009 9:27AM
i actually liked the HD remix, but the price was ridiculously high. That was the non selling point for me.
who doesn't own MKII, too bad the computer is super hard and people online just do sweep after sweep after sweep. Other then that its a good local 2 player game
S. Tiger @ Oct 7th 2009 9:36AM
Finally! Something knocked FFVII down a few pegs.
Mike @ Oct 7th 2009 9:40AM
My buying this game was a mistake.
I'm now convinced that when you're remaking a classic, trying to redo the art, graphics, sounds is just a mistake. Your audience is paying for the original art, graphics, etc to experience the nostalgia. If this game was a SNES port, but with trophies and co-op added on (and maybe a few extra features), I would have absolutely loved it! And you have to think it would've cost them so much less to produce, too.
And they took out the first Technodrome level! The one where you fling the guys into shredder/the tv screen! wth! That was arguably the best level in the game. Taking it out made flinging baddies into the tv screen a purposeless feature.
bimmy @ Oct 7th 2009 9:43AM
I liked it at first but it got old quick...too bad there isn't a trade-in service a-la GameStop for digital media :(
Kizzle @ Oct 7th 2009 9:48AM
I wish they'd release MK II on XBLA. Sigh.
They seem to have stepped away from arcade ports...which is good in some ways, but frankly I'd rather have a good older arcade game than some of the original garbage we get. For every Shadow Complex or Castle Crashers there are ten Yaris-es.
fohf @ Oct 7th 2009 12:41PM
ugh... stupid Yaris game... I wish I never played it for the 2 minutes I did and accidentally got an achievement so it can never be removed...
Spike941 @ Oct 7th 2009 9:46AM
Why are more people not downloading Fat Princess? IT'S AMAZING DAMMIT GET IT!
Ian @ Oct 7th 2009 10:07AM
TMNT has the admirable quality of being playable by a 5 year old with their parent. I suspect sales were driven by folks like me who wanted an on the couch co-op experience for the kids.
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 7th 2009 9:58AM
I don't get the TMNT bashing. Of course, I only played the original in the arcade; never the SNES version.
But why anyone would EXPECT an SNES version to be remade on a non-Nintendo console is beyond me.
It's fun, it's nostalgic, yet at the same time I didn't play the source material to death, so maybe that's why I wasn't disappointed.
Prof. Von Manifest of the Clan McCloud (PSN: Manifest37) @ Oct 7th 2009 10:28AM
"But why anyone would EXPECT an SNES version to be remade on a non-Nintendo console is beyond me."
Because it's not about the original platform but who holds the license.
Banjo-Kazooie... need I say more?
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 7th 2009 10:36AM
true.
Ghaleon @ Oct 7th 2009 9:59AM
Nostolgia? Marvel's the best, most exciting fighting-game there will ever be.
Although to be fair, I'm sure most of the people who DLd it have no idea how to actually play it ;)
HardBoiled2009 @ Oct 7th 2009 10:01AM
i played the demo thank god before buying and i have to say i like the look in some way but not for Baxter the boss he doesn't look as good. SNES version is way better
Kdiggy @ Oct 7th 2009 10:04AM
I would LOVE to know how many copies of FF VII have been sold. It's been in the top 10 since it's release and sold 100,000 in the US in the first week.
Kyle Nichol @ Oct 7th 2009 10:06AM
Hey, Sony, notice how four of the top ten are PSone Classics? That's why you should be releasing more in Europe.
mahouneko @ Oct 7th 2009 4:23PM
You'll want to file that complaint with SCEE which is responsible for Europe's distribution. Complaining about it to SCEA is pretty pointless since it's not their jurisdiction.
Maulok @ Oct 7th 2009 10:10AM
I tried the demo alone and didn't like it. Then 3 of my friends played it with me and I got a new appreciation for it, so I bought the full version.
It's no SNES version, but it's probably the closest I'll get to a new Streets of Rage.
DCD @ Oct 7th 2009 10:13AM
Lets see...
No Technodrome level - to make the time warp plot somewhat feasible and extend the game's playtime, not to mention a fun freaking fight where you toss footclan dudes at the screen.
No Rat King - hey lets just port you out of no where in the middle of the sewer after fighting a bunch of Alien clones.
No Bebop and Rocksteady
No Slash - hardest boss in the original game
Crappy music compared to the original
Hell, lets make Krang get away rather than his ship get destroyed when you beat him the second time.
Lets make the king who jumps at the end of the game do it in front rather than back in the crowd.
I understand this is based off the Arcade... but the SNES version was completely superior. The nitpicks I mentioned at the end (ie Krang, Kid) are extreme, but the others are not.
Thus, the SNES version is utterly superior to this HD'ed mess of a game that was made without any logical consideration as to what would be the superior product. If I was head of game design I probably would have merged to the Arcade and SNES to make a superior product, ie... the boss at the end of the Prehistoric level in this (Arcade based) game would be a mid-level boss thus keeping Slash as the final boss.
Maulok @ Oct 7th 2009 10:19AM
I was waiting for the technodrome level, but I thought my memory was messed up and it was coming later in the game. I was PO'ed when I beat the game and it wasn't there!! Tossing foot soldiers at the screen was a really cool way to beat a boss.
Mr Khan @ Oct 7th 2009 10:23AM
It seems as though the creators of TMNT are trying to move away from anything that exclusively existed in the 80's cartoons, which could explain the absence of Bebop and Rocksteady both in this case, and in the case of Smash Up
embassy @ Oct 7th 2009 10:28AM
I think a lot of the nitpicks and complaints you have are all licensing issues. I've noticed that Bebop and Rocksteady haven't been in *any* recent TMNT properties (movies, games, anything) So that's something that the developer has no control over. I'm assuming the same is true for many of the swapped-out characters and missing levels.
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 7th 2009 10:32AM
Ah.
$%#@&!
fohf @ Oct 7th 2009 12:44PM
The reasons you listed are why I didn't buy this. At the very least they should have included the original arcade game with the original sprites. I don't get nostalgic over newer 3D graphics, I wanted the original game.
Maulok @ Oct 7th 2009 10:48AM
Zombie Apocalypse did very well in September. Considering it was only available the last week of the month, 7th place for the entire month is awesome! I hope it has some legs, it's a fun game.
ducttapeBigSexy @ Oct 7th 2009 11:18AM
If a game is good enough to be considered for a remake, then it probably doesn't have to be remade. Remakes should only exist for those games that had something seriously wrong with it originally but there's enough promise that remaking it will result in an excellent game.
I played the SNES version of TMNT: Turtles in Time for the first time this summer (yeah, I'm a little late to the game :P) and it seemed perfectly fine to me. I tried the demo of Reshelled... and it seemed kinda lame. I think the best route would have been to go the route Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection did - add graphic filters and a 16:9 option (even if it's stretched) to the SNES or arcade version and call it a day.
Viney @ Oct 7th 2009 11:55AM
Bionic Commando and Monkey Island didn't have anything wrong with them and they both made for excellent remakes. Same goes for the NES Mario games that have been remade over the years. The point of remakes is to combine new technology with old success/nostalgia, not to fix broken games.
fohf @ Oct 7th 2009 12:49PM
remakes like Bionic Commando, Monkey Island, R-Type Dimensions, SF2HDRemix, and some others I'm probably forgetting did it right.
You don't change the game, you make it look better. You don't remove the music, you remix it or re-record it. You don't delete levels.
What you should do is make the game more accessible, i.e. infinite lives/continues, in-game hints, multiple play modes, ability to switch between graphical styles.
I'm still hoping they release the original arcade version just like TMNT:1989 Arcade.
Jawmuncher (PSN & XBL:Jawmuncher) @ Oct 7th 2009 11:42AM
Looks like I have to buy Mortal Kombat 2 and get it back into the top 10!
Xist27 @ Oct 7th 2009 12:56PM
I thought I was buying the old school beat em up - While its still pretyy fun and does have some resemblance to the classis - this one is not as good as the 80's version I remeber so well from the arcades eating all my quarters before playing it on my Super Nintendo...
taurus82 (HD ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, Please) @ Oct 7th 2009 1:05PM
How's about dropping the Ninja Turtles into an Arkham Asylum-style game?
ae86takumi @ Oct 7th 2009 5:46PM
I have to say that the remake is in subpar to the to original and snes version. Yes the SNES version was longer and more characters, but it was the easiest for me to play. You had to master the throwing foot soldier grab and voila. Slash was easy too , you just had to do the combo timing and done. repeat and repeat.
I stay with the original arcade version. I dislike in the remake with its diagonal hits.
Arcade > Snes version > remake
Abi @ Oct 7th 2009 7:00PM
No offense... but a pathetic attempt @ nostalgia with a turd like this will never be found at the top on Xbox Live. *dusts off SNES version*
Abi @ Oct 7th 2009 7:02PM
For the record...
1 Trials HD
2 Zombie Apocalypse
3 BUST-A-MOVE Live!
4 Battlefield 1943
5 Shadow Complex
6 Castle Crashers
7 Marvel vs. Capcom 2

9 NBA 2K10 Draft Combine
10 Defense Grid: The Awakening

develintales667 @ Oct 7th 2009 11:26PM
Honestly, you have just shown that you don't know what you are talking about. Unlike Major Nelson PSN only releases some odd monthly top 10 and the XBox release was quite a bit earlier, thus the picture is skewed but let's go back to the release
8/3 1st,
8/10 2nd
8/17 5th
8/24 7th
8/31 8th
and then 10th for 2 more weeks (sorry had to remove the links as joystiq only allows 3 per post)
XBox users are as stupid nostalgic fools as PSN users - the sole reason that on XBox Turtles would not have reached the August top spot is probably Shadow Complex, which hopefully got enough hype behind it.
develintales667 @ Oct 7th 2009 11:14PM
Thanks Joystiq for rubbing into my face that MK2 is available neither at the German nor the Japanese PSN Store. I really like to hear that.
