Bono was partnered with John Riccotello before he returned to EA in Elevation Partners. They're very good friends, in fact.

If U2 wanted to, they could make one phone call and have their own Rock Band game by next week.

I like how everybody goes ballastic over Bono wanting money when the statement come from Adam Clayton, their bassist.

This is what happens when most under 20-somethings get their opinions from Maddox.

Harmonix would never sink to just whoring out the Rock Band name to any band that asked EA. This is why they left Activision and abandoned Guitar Hero. The Beatles was a special case.

Contrary to what you believe, U2 is one of the biggest bands of all-time. They were already one of the biggest bands of all-time....ten years ago.

Rock Band is about universal appeal, which is why the first obvious choice is to do a game based on a band that many consider to be the root for most of modern rock music: The Beatles.

Of course you can't go any higher, you can only go down from there. But the next logical step would have to be a band on the level of monstrosity as U2.

Can you name me a band that has been on top of the charts and critical acclaim that spans over three decades and that still fill up 80,000 seat stadiums as of this past weekend? Because those bands are very few and far in between.

This isn't about musical taste, nor would I even bother to get into a discussion about that on an internet forum, mostly because I can't generate that much internal douchebaggery in such a short time frame.

If Michael Jackson had stayed with the Jackson 5 (and they played instruments) and had the success that MJ had, they would be a logical choice for a Rock Band themed game. Its about big bands, not necessarily the best bands.

Well said Jay. U2 is certainly not the best band right now, but they are quite possibly the hugest. I saw them at Croke Park this summer with 85,000 other people. 'Twas grand.

I know it's not cool, I guess, to say that you like U2 on the internet where most of the people here don't even know what song "Lemon" is, but I don't care.

I would love a U2 Rock Band.

You could 5 star all the songs on bass with no effort at all. Clayton plays the most basic basslines. It'd be like playing Sabotage over and over.

Given The Edge's addiction to effects pedals, the guitar notecharts will be awful. Either waaaaay overcharted or, well, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q65iSpG1DgQ

I was actually thinking of how some U2 songs would work in RB the other day. I was thinking it would be a great opportunity to actually require the effects toggle on the RB guitar to be changed for different sections of the song. Why not, it's already on the guitar.

I can just imagine the achievements:

30G- "Over the Edge" Play a chord.

50G- "Shredder" Play more than 12 notes in a minute.

150G- "Perfect Bono" Complete a song without hitting a single note, whilst wearing sunglasses and curing the sick.

14G - "Count Us In" Uno, dos, tres... what comes next?
1000G - "Plane Stupid" Fail to realise the irony of paying £1,000 to have your favourite hat flown out to a charity gig.

Yeah U2, you'd love to be in that world. But most of all, you want all that sweet sweet cash, you hypocrits. Screw the fans.

Tickets to their show are starting at 175 Euros in Germany, that' 256 US Dollars.
I am pretty sure most of that money is going to save the rainforest.

Pricks.

Wow - gamers who spend time on internet blog posts are cynical as hell.

Leave it to a blog comment section to have 95% of people trashing a band that is basically the most popular band in the world.

I'm not saying all of you are like this, but most of you appear to just think it's cool to hate something that's popular.

Most popular band in the world? I'm sorry. I don't think I saw too many posts here trashing The Beatles :P

The only active bands that have sold more albums than U2 are The Rolling Stones and AC/DC. And I don't think AC/DC has as much drawing power when it comes to Stadium shows as the Stones or U2.

For the record, I don't hate U2 because they're popular. They were popular when they made great music and Bono kept his mouth shut, too.

They don't want people creating their own characters and *enjoying* their songs in new ways. They want the content locked down in its own disc. They want a game that strokes off their egos.

So, you know, fuck 'em.

Hey @ least U2 is far better than the band that tries to rip them off... Coldplay. Of course Joe Satriani called Coldplay too & wanted his song back.

I like both the Beatles & U2. I don't like every U2 song nor do I like every Beatles song for that matter. Bono is one of the few big artists I respect because he actually does something to help people.

Awesome. If they had picked a good band, I'd actually be compelled to buy it. That's a solid $60 saved right there.

Honestly though, they couldn't have picked a worse band. GH: The Fray would be about 5x more fun.

I talked to one of the Harmonix guys at their booth at PAX and asked if they would ever do anything like Beatles again. He said probably not since The Beatles are such an iconic band that it made more sense to make a game based on them. So I kindah doubt U2 will get their own. But you know, talk is cheap.

But I hear Neversoft likes making those fancy musicy games with famous people...

But they probably think they have enough GOOD MUSIC to have a rock band game with downloadable content and the whole package.

It is amazing the hate there is on here for U2. It isn't like they are Creed or Limp Bizkit. U2 has been one of the biggest rock bands in the world for over 2 decades now. They are hands down one of the best live acts ever. How cool would it be to do different levels like Red Rocks, Sun Devil Stadium, Zoo TV Outside Broadcast, the Popmart Tour, Elevation at Slane Castle, U2 360 and others. My only problem is they sound much better live and playing the album versions of some of their songs would just not be the same. As great as "Bad" is, it is nothing compared to it performed live. I have been a fan since 1983 and I would buy a U2:Rock Band game. Can't wait to see them Friday night!

WTF Is all of this Rock Band videogame in all the video game blogs? Jesus. I've been in Japan when I was a kid in the early 90s or something and they already have this type of shit all around their arcades along with some dancing, drumming, singing, keyboards, wanking games, and God knows what else. The world is getting all excited with these shit that's been around since last decade.

Next thing you'll know some vg company will release those Japanese cartoon fuck games.and people will think that it's the best thing ever since sliced bread.

And U2?? U2 sucks my hairy balls.

I'd be all over a U2 Rock Band. It doesn't have to be quite as full-blown as The Beatles, but it could still be more than an expansion like some of the other single-band packages for RB/GH. It could be something in between, without QUITE so many skins, stadiums, potential instrument/vocal lines, but still have characters locked to songs so you don't have another case like Kurt Cobain singing Coldplay.

Despite all the hate displayed by the children here, they ARE a much loved band, and really the closest thing to The Beatles SINCE The Beatles. Few other bands have explored music and reinvented themselves in such a way.

Maybe they're not for everyone, but neither are Metallica, Van Halen or Aerosmith, and they've all had their own spin-offs. Frankly, I'd prefer to see more of the big-time bands have their own packages so we can take them or leave them according to taste.

U2 may not be built on face-melting guitar solos, but speaking for myself, I play RB/GH games to have FUN more than I do to show off my fake guitar e-peen. U2 is fun, and I think they'd be fun to (what is basically) air guitar along with. That said, it would be interesting to see them make some kind of concession for Edge's pedal-philia, just to give the game its own flavor. Given that their instruments aren't as iconic as The Beatles', there'd be no need for specialized controllers. It wouldn't be too cataclysmic to create a pedal peripheral.
