Sega's made some strides in trying to reach the Western market and its choice for the new head of Sega of America would seem to indicate the company wants to keep the progress going. Masanao Maeda will serve as the branch's new chief operating officer, Sega has announced.
Though not a Bernie Stollar-level household name, Maeda has helped the company expand into the West from Sega's Japanese HQ, so it'll be interesting to see how effective he can be in the effort stateside. (Psst, Maeda: More House of the Dead: Overkill, please. Thanks.)

Sorry, Joystiq. It's Bernie Stolar. Not Stollar.

Is this the first time in history that people are willingly jumping onto a sinking ship? The only thing that can save Sega is a time machine.

pffft.. sega of america is a joke. how stupid can a company be to want to "tap into the western market" and "exit the hardware market to focus on software" and then sell off its sports division. the only sports games ever good enough to rival ea's monopoly, and they sell them off?
thats only one of the laundry list of gripes i have with post 2002 sega.. its just as shell of its former self.

Don't you think that if Japanese Developers want to be successful with Western Gamers, they might find someone whose a gaming nut and also an American? Possibly? SEGA needs to realize as well as other developers and it confuses me why they don't hired guys to research and find these kind of suggestions, but... If you really make a hit with the fans, develop a quality game for the PlayStation 3. So far, first-party developers are the only ones really using the hardware properly. I just played the Japanese Demo for Bayonetta, and I'm dissapointed. Its all blurry and the colors are seriously dull. I haven't seen the Xbox 360 build yet but.... We're back to square one.
Developers need to work harder and pay more attention to detail. American's aren't gonna swarm after a piece of crap! Uncharted 2 will help carry sales why? Because there's heart and soul to develop a good game. Gaming is not longer about the challenge or making a game amazing! Its about the dollar bill. Its sad. Developers need to wake up!
