Super Street Fighter IV producer wants to expand online mode, add more original characters

Ono said he wanted to expand online play, to more closely approximate the excitement of being at a tournament. Online match viewing is something Ono hopes to add to the game, making Street Fighter more of a spectator sport. He also said he wanted to augment the Replay Viewer feature in some way.
As for the most noticeable new addition to Super -- the new characters -- don't expect Juri to be the only original character among a bunch of old Street Fighter series also-rans. Ono said he wanted to add more original characters who, like C. Viper, are at "the borderline of what fans might accept" using unusual fighting styles.

I know professional gaming is real and all, but I just dont understand watching other people play games. Maybe they said the same thing about basketball.

I'm sure everyone would do it if achievements were involved.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np_5BHmaSI4 this upset was cool, but I agree with you. I would rather play than watch.
Temidien @ Oct 8th 2009 3:07PM
When it comes to fighting games I like watching short videos to get ideas for how to improve my game. That being said, I never watch more than ten minutes worth of video per sitting.

Well, now you know how all of our girlfriends would feel...
..if we had girlfriends.

I have a girlfriend...she's just feeling a little deflated right now.
Space @ Oct 8th 2009 3:39PM
I can give your girlfriend something to do while I play games. BOOYAH!
Vcize @ Oct 8th 2009 4:31PM
Lobby matches like in HD Remix (where two people play, everyone else watches from a queue, then when that match ends the winner stays and the next person in line jumps in, etc) are a great way to just hang out with a group of friends, incorporate multiplayer fighting into something that's normally restricted to two players, and to get better by seeing what other people are doing.

I'm all for new chars.. as long as they're functional..

THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:03PM
How about 2 v 2 somehow? Or a survival mode with "waves" of enemies w/ 1 bar of health? No matter what, SFIV is rad.
Solace @ Oct 8th 2009 3:29PM
2v2 would be nice
Prof. Von Manifest of the Clan McCloud (PSN: Manifest37) @ Oct 8th 2009 7:02PM
Maybe it's too soon for a 2 on 2.
I would hate to be on the other side of a match vs. 2 pros.
My lifeless body would remain in the air throughout the entire round.

They call that Marvel/SNK/Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:03PM
Soon fighting games are going to need dlc to store all these characters......I'm suprised you can't add character in most of them already :O
emperorzeroxx @ Oct 8th 2009 3:05PM
who the heck is in that screen shot?? she looks horrible! I'm all for new characters capcom but if they are going to look like that, than just stick with taking characters from other street fighter games and making them SFIV style...
Batzarro @ Oct 8th 2009 4:24PM
That's what Baby Bonnie Hood is going to grow into.
IslandLife @ Oct 8th 2009 5:15PM
I actually like her look and the fact that for the first time in Street Fighter history they're introducing Tae kwon do. And seriously, are you really gonna complain about character designs after Street Fighter 3. Sure SF3 is still one of the best fighters I've ever played, but it surely wasn't because of the characters.
Temidien @ Oct 8th 2009 3:04PM
How bout releasing the improvements as DLC for those who originally supported the game by purchasing it? I'm fine paying for the extra content but I dread having to buy the extra content bundled with the original game.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:08PM
I thought Joystiq reported that it would be reworked to change the game engine and address several over-powered moves. Capcom says it will be cheaper too, but I don't know about anythin over $35.00.
Temidien @ Oct 8th 2009 3:28PM
If that's the case it's definitely worth a purchase then. Thanks for the heads up, mate
Mayne @ Oct 8th 2009 3:10PM
That Juri character design is kind of horrible.
More power to Capcom for getting back into the swing of reiterating the same iteration (not that I didn't see it coming), but as a lifelong SF fan, I gotta say it is finally starting to wear on me. There's really only so much they can do before they break down the series' cornerstones and have something completely different and less alluring...
Nanaya @ Oct 8th 2009 3:15PM
It's more like their going back to JoJo for more designs. Sooner or later we're gonna have a character that looks like Kaykoin and Weather Report.
ryan_gliebe @ Oct 8th 2009 3:13PM
Augment the replay feature? Awesome. Maybe they can turn it into something that's actually usable... take a look at Brawl and BlazBlue, Capcom!
More characters? Sweet. As long as they're good... half the cast in SFIV, I passed on using. Whereas in something like Brawl or BlazBlue, every character was not only fun to use, some surprised me, as I would have passed on them by appearance alone, but they were a lot of fun to use, like Luigi, Arakune, Iron Tager and Wario.
Expand online? How 'bout you just make it better... more reliable. I'm so sick of taking 5-10 minutes to get into a fight because when I search for a game, it continuously tells me that "no game sessions are found". I know people out there still play... >.>
Lastly, but not leastly, I hope Capcom adds more meat to the bones of SFIV. Sure, its an awesome fighter, but compared to the likes of BlazBlue, its simply bare bones. No character specific intros? One minute intro/outro animations? No character specific dialogue? That's what brings a fighter to life... great gameplay is one thing, but pulling you into your character is a whole 'nother story.
And, finally... Karin, Elena, Adon, Oro and Makoto, please, Capcom (SFIV is all about rivals, yet I see no Adon for Sagat, Karin for Sakura - what's up with that?).
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:13PM
I love that new character, she seems to have a certain SNK charm that has being lost on KOF XII. ( the disappointment of the decade)
Deadpool @ Oct 8th 2009 5:01PM
Aaahhrrgggggg.....KOF XII was sooo disappointing. ಠ_ಠ
Hopefully they can fix all the problems soon, because the gameplay was the best thing about the game.
JER @ Oct 8th 2009 3:19PM
Why does it say Vega with a picture of Bison? :s
Kyattsuai @ Oct 8th 2009 3:21PM
That's what he looks like without the mask.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:28PM
WIN.
Hydrophobicfish (PSN: HydrophobicFish) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:35PM
Because that's his Japanese name.
M. Bison is Vega.
Vega is Balrog,
And Balrog is M. Bison
(America --> Japan)
The reason they changed, is because M. Bison is too much like MIke Tyson, who is also a big black boxer... there might have been confusion about copyrights and likeness, and that junk...
So, Capcom changed it around.
captainprotonx @ Oct 8th 2009 3:16PM

"The borderline of what fans might accept?" Seth absorbs enemies into his yin-yang torso and launches them Smash Bros. style and he's concerned about rocket boots?
Dance Mofo @ Oct 8th 2009 3:22PM
I hope they add the feature where at the select screen, your opponent can't see who you choose like it was done for the championship mode. make that the norm.

WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 8th 2009 3:43PM
Please, do nerf Sagat on SSFIV.
Eric Wenger @ Oct 8th 2009 4:46PM
Sagat is one of the most unbalanced characters in SFIV, so ummm, yeah he needs to be nerfed. No fun seeing non-stop Sagat vs. Sagat matches online.
robert @ Oct 8th 2009 4:57PM
Someone needs to nerf C.Viper. She's already ridiculously overpowered and takes miniscule damag... oh wait.
RagingStormX @ Oct 8th 2009 5:07PM
Do you'll actually play SF4? The things Ryu and Zangief can get away with seems more unbalanced than Sagat to me.
rells009 @ Oct 8th 2009 3:38PM
Does Capcom just believe that SF3 was THAT much of a failure? Why can't they just bring in a SF3 character or two?
Asmerom (PSN: neon6plz) @ Oct 8th 2009 8:54PM
5 characters still have not been announced. I'm really hoping they add Ibuki
But apparently, most people who played SF3 may have either not cared about it or hated it maybe because it was too different from SF2 and we probably won't be seeing an HD Remix of SF3 later.
