You know those neighbors you have? The ones with fake deer, flamingos and gnomes
all over their yard? This is for them. More specifically, it's to utterly petrify them with abject terror. Have no fear though, for the
piranha plant you see above is
not real, but rather a sculpture created by one
Jaime Margary. We suggest you check out Margary's Flickr account for a closer look at the piece, which is also accompanied by a
baby piranha plant (and
a dog that is entirely too calm about he whole situation).
And yes, the sculpture will be up for sale
on eBay soon. Throw on a motion-activated flamethrower and you'll have the nerdiest home security system ever devised. Watch a step-by-step video of the sculpture's creation after the break.

I'm stunned by how awesome this is.

Oh... Wow. The eBay bid will probably be way over my budget though, well, and I don't have a yard to put it in. Anyways, this thing definitely need to be mass produced.

This person needs to manufacture a whole bunch of these and become a millionaire... I'll buy one for $30!
CrissCross87 @ Oct 8th 2009 4:30AM
Somebody call Nintendo and tell them to get to work on making this official. Wow that sculpture, I would rather buy that and put that in my yard then play some of the stuff that is coming out on Wii. This is how you expand the market!

Does it shoot fireballs?
Spartan [Planeteer | Power of Sunshine & Lollipops] @ Oct 8th 2009 5:49AM
This is all sorts of awesome!
edweird @ Oct 8th 2009 5:56AM
Bring on the animatronic, A.I. controlled, sensor reactive version.

The creator consistently talks about the plant as being a female... Now, I know plants have do genders but I'd love to find out how one can determine whether or not your Piranha Plant is a male or female. My guess is that after the "inspection" you won't exactly be shaking hands with anybody...
KVN @ Oct 8th 2009 8:11AM
The music is awesome too :)
Torque_AOD @ Oct 8th 2009 8:22AM
That is awesome on so many levels, but if I ever saw that thing on my yard, I WILL KILL IT WITH FIRE
MRLN @ Oct 8th 2009 3:19PM
Unless it kills you with fire first...
shadowhowl1900 @ Oct 8th 2009 8:30AM

This just made me realize that if they made a more mature or realistic Mario game, I would be too afraid to play it. Just think about it.
Lord Il Palazzo (Previously : Rave Master 2.0) @ Oct 8th 2009 2:44PM
Would it still be "Mario" if that happened? WOULD IT?!
Load Il Palazzo Knows what he's talkin' about.

The burnt charcoal corpses of would-be-burglars is also a great fertilizer for your other plants. This is a great contraption indeed.
Orion @ Oct 8th 2009 9:46AM
I wish I knew how he did the skin detail and tongue. Absolutely amazing work.
Triscuit @ Oct 8th 2009 1:12PM
If you watch the video, it looks like the skin details were created by wrapping the shapes in layers of tin foil to give it the texture.
Preston @ Oct 8th 2009 11:16AM
I'm disappointed. I was expecting a -real- piranha plant.
Heavytoka @ Oct 8th 2009 11:33AM
I want one of these bad! I hope he mass produces them.
Bryan @ Oct 8th 2009 12:03PM
I'd never put this outside, it'd definitely get stolen. Humans are terrible creatures.
more_rayne @ Oct 8th 2009 12:05PM
He should of made molds of the pieces to mass produce it. Since its made out of clay, won't it melt if it gets too hot? That'd be a shame.
Ninbrendo @ Oct 8th 2009 2:38PM
This thing makes Audrey II look like a Venus Flytrap.
Highlar @ Oct 8th 2009 3:02PM
I thought the SMB2 remixed theme was as awesome as the sculpture. :) I think that soundtrack...SMB2...is one of the more unfortunately forgotten Mario soundtracks, as I always thought the tunes were pretty catchy. Best of the soundtracks has to go to SMG, though...that's just an amazing soundtrack I wish I had on CD.
