Command & Conquer: Red Alert invades iPhone in October

Comrades, EA Mobile will attempt to bring full-scale RTS action to the iPhone this October with Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Control the Allies or the Soviets in 12 levels as you "drag and scroll to gauge the battlefield. Pinch-zoom in and out of the action. Select and move units with a tap." A touch-screen RTS sounds like a dream come true, but we'll reserve judgment until we see how the iPhone's tiny screen handles our mighty, meaty manpaws. Delicate, they are not.

Judging by the screenshot it's a weird 2D version of Red Alert 3 with Red Alert 2 graphics, but it will deceive people into thinking it's a port of the original Red Alert because of the name.
Good job EA.

Spot-on, nutman.

I would definitely enjoy playing this, however, I'm worried about EA's handling of SimCity and how the game was having a lot of trouble handling cities as they got larger. I have yet to see that fixed. My large city will crash the game every time. But it was fun as I played it.

Same kind of thing happened with CivRev too. Loss of textures and eventual freeze or crash. Hopefully it can be worked out.
Sly @ Oct 9th 2009 6:12PM
CivRev works fine for me. Mass Effect? Nope.

Ugg, as much as I like Red Alert I can already tell from that screenshot this is gonna suck. Look at how busy that is. There is no way that is going to control well with a touch screen interface...

OH MY GOD must get iPhone.
Marco le Polo @ Oct 9th 2009 7:39PM
Surprisingly that was my first reaction, but it has subsided now.
Rhamsey @ Oct 9th 2009 6:18PM
A lot less interested in this now that i see its not a port.
mahouneko @ Oct 9th 2009 7:42PM
I'd probably be much more interested in a touch screen version of this game if it were applicable to a tablet or something with more physical screen real estate.

Looks legite enough.. But I can't imagine a full scale RTS on an iPhone with anything close to managable controls.
psychoticdream @ Oct 9th 2009 8:53PM
blackberry smartphones have had this game for awhile now, its not bad really

You mean I can take my glorious Soviet armies with me wherever I go? Portable Kirovs? Tesla Coils? Maybe even Dreadnoughts? Yes please.
Faceman @ Oct 9th 2009 9:33PM
