The bullets the character shoots seems like they are not meant for killing, but for pushing people off ledges.

It looks almost exactly like Killzone 2, down to the gun with the green sight. But hey, I wouldn't complain about an MMO KZ2, unless it had game-killing input lag too.

I started playing Eve about a month and a half ago. Seeing how Eve evolves makes me really excited for how this game could turn out. I hope it's good and become "the FPS" to own for all three systems.

Especially if all three systems are cross-compatible.

I'd love to see a game look like that when you're playing it.

Gameplay footage, please! (Yes, I know it's pretty early)

I'm kind of curious what kind of hardware they were using for their keynote speech? Was it the new 5870x2 or several running in unison? I'd be curious to find out.

I always liked the idea of Eve, where the biggest guild could be collapsed by subterfuge, were bank runs actually happen. But I tried playing it, and it seemed like it would take years to get to a point where I could have any influence over these kind of events. If this works like the rest of Eve, but with fpsing instead of mining, sign me up.

EVE is very much like real life. You have to work your way up the ranks.

Thing is, there are laws that protect against massive thefts in real life so pulling an insider job and stealing a bajillion dollars of cash is much more likely to land you in jail. For life. Without parole.

Looks like this could be Planetside upgraded in all the ways people wanted.

I never understood why MMO FPSes didn't take off more. Think about how much time people play FPSes on servers, and will die constantly without any preservation of their gear, or how many people will 'grind' to get unlockable weapons, etc etc etc

I hope they do this well. It seems like the economy is in place from EVE, so I'm excited to see how much power the FPSers have over making a lasting impact in the game world.

ya the 1 issue that has stopped it i believe is the goals have always been too short, i mean look at COD you play a month you've unlocked just about everything you can so now your just playing for playings sake.

If CCP and the achievement unlocks combined with the fact they say their will be thousands of weapon and vehicle options to unlock and use, means that as an MMO it has a longevity to even the single player experience of "unlocking" new things...

Why is the PC tag on this game? CCP has said absolutely nothing about a PC release for this title, and everything I can find about it says it will be console only.

Frankly I think it's a stupid decision. If they're going to make a console game it should be on PC too. They are abandoning the advantages they have in the PC market for a market that has repeatedly failed to support any sort of MMO games. On top of that, they're entering a market that is already dominated by a pair of sci-fi shooters. I really don't see any good business validation for this aside from the tired old "the console market is bigger" argument.

because time will tell, they wanted to focus on consoles for deployment, but the interesting piece is that it uses incarna's engine, so who knows maybe eventually after dust is established we'll see pod pilots deploying to the planet to help their dust fighters, would make sense since in essence dust pilots are the marines, while and forgive me for saying it, Pod Pilots are in essense the god like spartans, primarily because of their cloning and inability to die really

CCP has stressed several times that pod pilots and ground mercs are going to remain separate.

And that DUST will remain console only. At least for several years.

In case someone hasn't seen this yet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNhPig8inEY#t=1h06m45s

After the quick replay of the old trailer, keep watching, they play through an example match. It does look and play alot like battlefield, except you need to purchase vehicles, and have a commander above the action controlling troops in an rts style. This aspect sounds really intriguing to me. I've been playing EvE for the last 5 months, and while the learning curve is somewhat steep, it really does seem like a vast world where anything is possible. It's really fun. Even better, as someone who runs a business and has a social life, I don't need to "grind" to get the most out of the game.

Also, I should mention that the micro-transaction payment method for Dust at first had me really concerned. Thoughts of "horse armor" popped into my head. After reading an article, I started to reconsider. Basically players can purchase blueprints of weapons, but won't be able to use them unless they are unlocked through in-game achievements and advancements. This means you can't "buy-win". Also, they are simply blueprints, so they'll require in-game resources, etc. This allows the people who want to play every once in a while to play and use other people's weapons on the cheap once they are able to in-game. Those that are a bit more dedicated will pay because they are invested in the game. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the community, because while I wouldn't want this model to be used with a game like Modern Warfare 2, I think it may just work with Dust.

ya and the fact that CCP has said that it wont be 1 blueprint your buying i recall them saying you'll be able to buy blueprint "packs" so several hundred blueprints apparently, according to early interviews their talking several thousand weapon combinations for fighters.

I still can't understand why, in the future when both sides have epic murder-ships, they still employ ground troops that can only win battles at a local scale, as opposed to a single ship2ship battle that decides the alliance of a single planet. Future us are stupid.

Please tell me why I'm wrong.

because its the insurgents that are the issue, thats like saying "with the US having drones and cruise missles why do we still have a ground war in iraq and afghanistan" ... because you can only hit so much from the sky, and in this case SPACE.

The point of a planet is to eventually inhabit it, if you nuke the entire planet from orbit your kind of ruining that point.

LMAO, ya true, but if your enemys are sprawled out then you might be nuking them all lol, and considering the contents of said planets (ores etc) are worthwhile, it sbetter to surgically kill your enemys vs wasting the riches the planets have to offer... Although if i was really a pod pilot and i saw my dust marines loosing, i'd end the fight with a nice "withdrawal troops, and turn the planet into glass with nukes" plan.

But ya, we'll never really see the end of humans foot fighting, until of course we have readily available terminators :)

Also, right now there's a bunch of talk about robots going into battle for people within the next decade or so. Have we completely forgotten about them? Or, maybe you are playing AS A ROBOT!!!!

Well, also, and this was actually mentioned as a reason for the need of the Dust trooper, is planet infrastructure.

With the Dominion expansion for EvE, inhabitable planets will get split up into districts, each of which has potential for building infrastructure, similar to Sim City or Civilization. If you want to take over someone else's district by force, you can nuke them by air, however all of the infrastructure that has taken days, months, years to build, is destroyed. Thus, the need for a ground war :)

Because game writers have no real understanding of warfare.

I pray one day that sci-fi game creators actually take the time to read some sci-fi (the good kind, not the common crap). They need to read Niven, Pournelle, etc... to REALLY understand sci-fi, how technology changes war and society.

Examples:
- Halo is physically impossible. It's a rip-off of Ringworld, which was mathematically proven before it was even written.
- Space/air superiority. No ground troops would ever be committed until space based resources pounded ground-based resistance into complete submission. They could be surgical in precision, or they could bombard with asteroids . None of this epic ground warfare (then again, we wouldn't have a game). Any ground action would be mop-up ops, or special forces infiltration ops.
- etc...

As for "nuking from orbit", if the goal was to retake the planet and damn the inhabitants, they would just neutron bomb the entire planet. Kill everyone without causing damage to infrastructure.

Space dominance is a lot different from US drones over Iraq. A space-borne battleship can do a LOT of things from orbit. THOR, nukes, neutron bombs, radiation weapons, etc....

Heck, why not just ION beam a planet back to the stone-age and then mop up the ragged survivors a year later.

Thank god i have an Xbox and a PC im a eve player will soon be a Dusty Eve player :)

Is it just me or is this game getting no attention for good its looking, graphic engine looks very nice. Can't believe this is the same as the engine that will be running INCARNA (aka Walking in Stations) for eve...

Its funny if this is what the Incarna engine is capable of does that mean Walking in Stations will turn into, seiging stations and ground assaults eventually, or bar brawls! w00t, or who knows maybe Corp Meeting griefing with some grenades

That looks wild. I like what CCP is doing with the EVE Online universe by seperating it into two games, since there are probably a lot of folks like me who appreciate the fiction and want to try it out but are intimidated by the grinding spreadsheets gameplay. It looks like this way there will be options for both the eggheads who enjoy the resource management and microeconomics aspects as well as the ones who just want to jump into the gunfights.

I'm all for MMO FPS, but when you have a HALO rifle, Warthog, and a Scorpion in a trailer for a non-HALO game, that tends to freak me out.
With design so "highly inspired" by other famous series, I'm sure this will make a solid game, but will definitely lacking innovation department.

hate to bum you out but most of those things are derived originally for current research projects in weapons, the gun especially is a more advanced version of the XM8 http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/infantry/rifle/XM8/XM8_carbine.png

The tank, i saw something slightly similar but it was part of a stealth tank design that was designed to make incoming shells have less chance of direct hits i forget what it was called...

and the warthog was derived from one of the Light Strike Vehicle designs...

the fact is almost all games even scifi ones, get their inspiration from modern/cutting edge prototype designs....

I hate it when people say a jeep in any FPS looks like a warthog, they're all just similar to current military jeeps, and the only gun I saw looked more like the XM8. I think the scorpion statement is fair enough though.
